Um..... it's not a installation. Its labeled as a major city.

Edit: Are you sure you're talking about the same city. It's like, the one east of the small patch of green in the southern mountains, which I assume is like a Swiss Alpine valley.

The Carlisle wrote:Just for my character. Since he is a ducal heir, I would like to request that I name a place on the map to call his 'home'

The major city in the southeast in the mountains right next to the Precambrian border. I would like that to be the city. It's name is Oorburg, after house Oorburg which ruled over the territory for centuries. The city is a major mining and smelting city. Rich in coal and metals, the city is an important area both economically and militarily. A large munitions factory calls its home there, supplying the military a large chunk of its munitions.

It's position makes it difficult to capture from the East, even in modern warfare. The only navigable route to the East is a small mountain pass call Deadman's run. Sheer cliffs on both sides going up and down, and areas that are only wide for a person, the area is naturally defensive. It was made economically viable 200 years ago, when House Oorburg invested in building sturdy metal ledges to allow the building of roads on top of them. But to keep the defensiveness up, they also had the ledges rigged with explosives to collapse the metal ledges, making it impossible to navigate with anything bigger than a man. The ledges have been blown many times, which can be seen by black marks and collapsed cliffs. But they are only really blown when Precambrians invade through that corridor.

Just an idea for flavor.

We can roll with that, sure.
Nature-Spirits wrote:Awesome.

Also, what do you think of my idea (and others' of course)?

Carnivorous plants and mutant monsters? I can hardly say no, can I?
Transoxthraxia wrote:Fantastic. Question, though. Will all the squads be close together? Or will they be operating relatively independently of one another?

Close. As Kisinger said, one IFV is a target. Several IFVs with infantry support is a killer. We're gonna have both large-scale ops with the whole battalion operating, as well as small squad-based missions.
Kisinger wrote:If you need somebody to be the Company's CO I could do it hell even a NCO, I will do it. But I will wait for you... 0.0

I actually think I'd better NPC-ify the CO.
The Carlisle wrote:Also, nothing in the vehicles tab. Can't wait to see what we are kitted out with.

Yeah, I just put it there to make the tabs nice and even. Vehicles themselves are in progress. If anybody's having a creative stint, feel free to throw suggestions at me.
Agritum wrote:So Ayre, I've got a little idea: I could make a nice Spotify playlist everyone could listen to if they wanted some "ambience" to the RP. Since I'm getting quite the mood from reading the OP with "For What It's Worth" in the background.

I love it!
Rupudska wrote:We really need a Bio section on the app.

To be frank, I kinda hate Bios. To be precise, I enjoy reading them, but hate writing them. I figured since this is the kind of RP with a lot of characters, some of which will die, it would be sufficient that backgrounds get explored in IC conversations - that kind of stuff gets talked about in a tight-knit military environment.

Also, I figured anybody who's serious enough about character building is going to write a bio whether needed or not. :p
Hornesia wrote:Now I'm imagining him hotboxing in an IFV.

That'd be the second RP I make that has hotboxing in an IFV. In a row. Without me having anything to do with it.

I mean, what the fuck?

Well, with the number of applications, Ayreonia is going to have a field day. We might even get a third squad.

Yeah, no shit.
Kriegers wrote:Imma snip gonna snip I'm gonna SNIP gonna SSSSNIPP

Look, it doesn't make much sense to use a masked picture of your character. I mean, we're all going to wear standard-issue clothes anyway, so the gear doesn't matter.

I think that's all immediate concerns addressed.

Oh hey, if anybody's feeling creative besides designing vehicles, it'd be great if someone could draw or otherwise create a picture of a "typical" Antediluvian infantryman in the described gear. Also, I seem to have used the NATO alphabet without even thinking about it since it's so ubiquitous in our world (even neutral little Finland uses it), but of course in this world, the letters would have different names. If anybody's into that sort of stuff, knock yourself out.

That's what I was asking.

Where's the list?

The callsigns are listed next to squad designations in the second post.

Since the military is still aristocratically managed (dukes=generals), I think lettering the alphabet after the major nobles hours would be a good start.

Starting as our first letter of course is O, which will stand for Oorburg.

I'm such a narcissist. :p

I think I'll have Mithras refer to him only as Oorby, just to piss him off. He'll have a chip on his shoulder about Nobility.

They seem to resemble notAKs, iirc. Look under the gear section of the OP.

Like I said, I mixed up the two when I made the key. Xs are supposed to be installations, Os are supposed to be major cities.

The one in the bottom left, right below the key? Oh, sure, that works. I thought you were talking about the X next to the purple line, since you said it was next to the Precambrian border.

If Ayreo wants, somebody could use Pimp My Gun to make one. Of course, assuming what he said in the Cafe hasn't changed, we're using 50s/60s tech here, so I don't think we could get away with a notM-16

Three duchies that had names before I fucked up the whole history section were Winstor, Crávis and Sayshel. Just a hint.

Prattish nobility aside, Mithras kinda likes getting under people's skin. He's actually quite the antithesis of the normal brooding, anti-social marksman.

I like the idea of using noble house names. I'll incorporate them (though it might make some sense if some of the pronunciations were bastardised/truncated a bit).

A notAK, pretty much. Considering the environment and conditions we'll be operating in, we need a gun that lasts. The real AK isn't bulky or too heavy, though, the ones I've tried at least. In fact, the only non-Finnish variant I've fired was a lulzy East German airborne variant with furniture and magazines made of bakelite or some shit. It was silly light and impossible to hold on target.

English with a different name. No idea about the Precambrians, but I've been playing around with the idea that all the languages on the continent are pretty similar, so that people of different peoples can understand each other fairly well.
