I got it! Eureka! We need ballistae, to defend from hordes of attackers. And of course some people to operate them.

Like a shooting range? When I hear hunting room, I imagine a hunting lodge with a bunch of mounted animal heads and classic literature while a classy British man reads while smoking from a pipe.
