Alternatively I could add a separate tech portion to the app, with different categories of tech and ask yet all to fill it in

I mean, do we have to say "this is 7th century" or "this is renaissance", etc.? Can't we just have a few measures, defined roughly? For example, those located in industrial or coalmining areas mighty preserve more info about steam power, those in countries that were more literate before the apocalypse would be more educationally developed, etc.

I was thinking that some continents would be more advanced than others and vice versa, but I'm not sure which ones. It depends on their geography and climate mostly. Culture has influence as well. I think North America would do great (aside from the barren Southwest at least). With the introduction of livestock, horses and other edible plants, I think that N. America in the 4000's would be quite ahead. They'd have an advantage the Native Americans never did.

I think that makes a good deal of sense.

I imagine places like Europe wouldn't have fared too badly. The ecosystem has already taken everything that humanity can throw at it, and apart from nukes, there's not much more that can be done. Still balkanised, to be sure, but not necessarily less fertile.

I think if we do that, if we say that Europe and North America and other places where there were advanced societies have bonuses, then a lot of people will pick Japan, North America, Europe, Australia, etc.. and very few will pick Africa or South America.

The backstory takes place in a future where the economy is very different. There could be really no differed between regions.

People still need to eat and drink and sleep, and still like to enjoy themselves. They still dislike extreme heat and extreme cold and conditions in which the elements batter them, such as hail, rain or wind. They still breath and still interact. Which regions of the earth work best to those ends will be the most preferable. The economy can't work differently enough to do that unless it doesn't involve humans anymore.

Here's my opinion: With the new climate, Eastern Europe and Central Asia should be doing great. Southeastern Europe is fine as well. But the other regions, not so much. Spain has gotten very hot, Western Europe mostly swallowed by the seas (the Low Countries are gone) and Britain is now just a bunch of swampy, soggy islands. I think that Eastern and Southern Europe should be hotbeds of civilization, the rest mainly tribal and "backwards".

On that note, we should switch up the cards. In modern day, Eurasia was the driving continent. We should create scenarios that allow the rest of the world to fill the gap, and RP as lesser played nations for a change.

I agree. With seas warming up the more inland areas, they would be comparable to most of RL Europe as we know it.

I'm not so sure about Eurasia, though. It's the biggest landmass, after all, and even in this scenario, still is. Considering just how much of its land is not only open, but relatively fertile (compared to the deserts of Australia or the rapidly washing-away soils of the Amazon) I imagine it would still be important.

I'd have to concur, more or less. Africa still looks to be numero lasto. And Eurasia numero uno.

Mmm, considering how many of Africa's problems stem from more political and human issues than natural, I'm not so sure that they'd be last, but they wouldn't be leading, that's for sure.

According to the new map, there is no Eurasia. There is Europe, Asia, and Africa. They are all now divided, and can be considered separate continents. While IRL Europe may be an invented continent to make the europeans feel good about themselves, in this modified world Europe is as much a continent as Asia or Africa are. North America and South America are continents aswell now.

I think starting nations should be of reasonable size. Like Romania, Switzerland or France size. Only maybe two or three should be big empires stretching from shore to shore. Nothing huge like America or Russia though.
