Name: The Verdani
Description:
The Verdani are (or is) an ancient species, stretching back into the eons of history and beyond as a constant presence upon the world. They were created by Saelerdon in the years of old in his image, a race driven by the insatiable desire to consume and record knowledge. Whilst individual Verdani come in innumerous shapes and sizes to fulfil various different niches and roles – from the gargantuan Verdani upon whose branches entire settlements are built, to small but hardy sapplings that travel across the continent with the Green Priests – they are all truthfully a single organism. The Verdani can only be accurately described as a collective mind with a seemingly infinite capacity to absorb and accumulate knowledge. It is this fact of their existence that enables them to be able to communicate instantaneously and share information between themselves no matter the physical gulf that may divide them – as in essence no single Verdani is an individual.
However, whilst the Verdani is conscious and has apparently no limit to its reservoirs of memory and knowledge, it lacks the ability to create and innovate – at least on any timescale noticeable to mortal beings. Very inward-facing, the Verdani exists as a collection of thoughts and recollections, the vast majority of which are inconsequential. This has resulted in them engaging in symbiotic relationships with other beings – the Green Priests. Through a bonding ceremony that fundamentally changes the creature involved, the Verdani mind opens itself to an outsider. Whilst the Green Priest gains access to the single largest repository of knowledge and information in all of creation, the Verdani gain access to individuals who can ‘catalogue’ its great stores and make sense of its knowledge.Nation Name: The Green Priest Order
Ruler (if applicable): The High Council
Government Type: Officially democratic, the Verdani allows for every Green Priest to become involved in discussions involving them all. Great debates as to the purpose and path of the order constantly take place within the great mind, and the High Council itself is chosen in such a way. However, older and more experienced Green Priests are granted more influence in such discussions and, whilst not admitted, certain groups within the Order hold significant sway, with the High Council itself more than capable and willing of making decisions for the whole – whether the wider Order knows of this or not.
Government Hierarchy:
The High Council – The rulers of the Green Priest Order, 5 of the most influential and experienced members of the Order.
The Council – Made up of all of the Master Priests, it never meets in its entirety but does hold discussions within the Verdani mind.
Note – The Green Priest Order officially is subservient to the Hidden Empire of Nargathror and swears alleigience to the Elvenking, but this is in reality a formality. The Order exercises independence and dominance within the Verdani glade of the World Forest and does not interfere in the Empire’s affairs – providing of course that its own interests are respected by the Wood Elves.
Formation: The Green Priest Order has existed under countless names throughout history, with its exact formations lost to history, although theories exist. It is known that there have been times where it has ceased to exist for unknown reasons, only to be refounded as new individuals rediscover the ability to link with the Verdani. Ultimately, the Order was founded by the Verdani and members are chosen by the Verdani. As long as the great mind lives, so too will the Order. However, its most recent incarnation started when a number of Oriental sailors exploring the Maebelrant river stumbled upon the ruins of a large Order temple. Some of the sailors managed to bond with the Verdani and founded Omashu on the temple ruins.
Succession Laws: Individuals train as acolytes to become Green Priests before attempting the Trials to become accepted by the Verdani. Rarely are acolytes accepted on their first attempt of the Trials, but it is even rarer for a dedicated acolyte to be turned down entirely. As for succession to the leadership position, influence and respect are the primary factors involved but the Order is also a democracy, with debate and discussion involving all of its members possible thanks to the Verdani.
Gender Laws: Whilst within the Order itself all genders are treated equally, the non-Green Priest communities that live within the World Forest may hold slight biases.
Geographic territory: The Order’s home is centered within the Verdani glade within the Great Forest – an area referred to by the Order as the ‘World Forest’ – with its largest temple situated in the city of Omashu. However, the Order maintains a number of missions across the continent which could also be considered its territory.
Population: 12,000
Military Strength: Whilst as part of their training all the Preists are trained in certain traditional self-defence techniques and others dedicate themselves to learning combat techniques, the Order maintains no standing military. However, the Verdani themselves are not incapable of defending the World Forest.

Currency: Aldanwe
History:
In its long history, the Order has often found itself involved in international affairs – in deed its duty to gather knowledge and record historical events for the Verdani results in its involvement. However, rarely does it actively try to influence these events. Whilst Green Priests have been used by powerful individuals, militaries and governments to help ease communication this is a necessary payment in return to being granted entrance to such influential groups. From the great civil war between the elves to the expansions of the Palatine Empire, the Priests have witnessed strife and achievement, but the Order as a whole takes pains to not choose sides.
As well as this, in recent centuries the Order has decided that its duty extends to disseminating knowledge and understanding as well as collecting it. To this end, it has become involved in charity work across the continent with its most notable and enduring successes its educational missions. These institutions make up some of the most prestigious and respected academies and universities on the continent and whilst some take in the children of Kings and Emperors, others are free establishments funded by donations and the Order’s great wealth to teach the gifted poor. These missions are also often the largest concentrations of Verdani beyond the World Forest, with each maintaining its own glade upon its land, although the sizes of these colonies varies drastically.
In current history, the Order has found itself within the dominion of Nargathror. Whilst the Order has respected and followed the wishes of the leiges of its neighbour, they have also taken great pains to protect their neutrality and independence. However, the Order does occasionally butt heads with the Elvenking or Queen over the enforced isolation of the realm, with the Green Priests refusing to cease their Order’s quest for knowledge from throughout the continent or to deny entrance to travellers seeking to enter into the World Forest. They have also from time-to-time angered the Order of the Prydaen, denying the elven priesthood influence within the World Forest and over the Verdani.
RP Sample: See Char. appNationstates Nation: Bentus
Character Name: Keiana Ryfawin
Character Race: Elven, although there is significant human blood in there too. She could also be considered part Verdani due to the symbiosis process she undertook as part of becoming a Green Priest. (As the Order does not differentiate between races, over the generations mixed unions have occurred repeatedly)
Character Age: 21
Character Dynasty/House/Clan (if applicable): Ryfawin
Character Dynastic History (History of your family): House Ryfawin is one of the ruling families of Omashu, the largest and most powerful settlement within the World Forest. Whilst they are officially subjects of the Elvenking and pay the tithes they are due, within the World Forest they are largely independent of the Hidden Empire and ultimately are influenced to a far greater extent by the Order. Ryfawin is highly influential within the World Forest and indeed could be considered as nobility, with members of the dynasty in control of significant wealth and holding powerful political positions.
Character Physical Description or Image (as in Picture): This. Although her skin is taking on a green tinge that will darken as she ages due to her bonding with the Verdani.
Character Biography: Since her youth, Keiana has displayed a rebellious and independence streak. The youngest daughter of her parents – the heads of the Ryfawin family – she was born deep within the World Forest in Omashu, home of the Green Priests. Whilst her elder siblings were groomed to take on powerful positions within the family, no-one really knew what to do with the ever-curious child within their midst. Her mother sought to try and turn her child into a proper lady at first, but gave up after endless escapades into the Forest. Keiana found herself drawn to the great trees, finding escape from the stiff confines of her heritage amongst the embrace of the Verdani and the freedom of their branches. Often disappearing for days at a time, Keiana found herself repeatedly bearing the brunt of harsh words from her family who feared that one day their daughter would venture too far into the wilderness.
However, when the Green Priest Order expressed an interest in the curious young girl, the Ryfawin family thought that perhaps they had found a way to keep their youngest safe. Keiana had already become a common face around the large Order temple in the centre of Omashu as she’d pester and follow Priests returning from grand journeys for every single detail of the foreign lands they had visited. Often she was shoed away, but other Priests would find themselves talking ceaselessly for hours on end to the wide-eyed girl. Keiana could never hear enough about the kingdoms beyond the canopy of the Forest, finding herself lying wide awake at night dreaming of her own adventures into the bustling markets of Paletine or the great cities of the Dwarves. Inevitably, she was offered the opportunity to become an acolyte when she turned 14, which she readily accepted.
Proving herself as having an unusually powerful bond with the Verdani, she passed the Trials on her first attempt at the early age of 16 – becoming an official member of the Order. The first time she was able to delve into the great mind of the Verdani was the single greatest experience of Keiana’s still short life. However, she found herself bored and incapable of the repetitive task of tending to the Verdani glades within the World Forest and temple. She turned to the sport of tree-dancing as an outlet for her energies, where Green Priests moved in improvised athletic dances high up in the canopy, the bond between them and the Verdani allowing for incredible feats of grace and trust within the branches. However, after an accident whilst tree-dancing which saw her break a leg, Keiana found herself barred from performing in the sport by her father – worried for the safety of his daughter.
Enraged, Keiana decided that she would follow in the footsteps of the Priests that had entertained her with stories of the world beyond the canopy as a child, and applied to the Council for the opportunity to take on a contract outside the World Forest. Her talents and natural gift for communicating with the Verdani meant that her request was immediately accepted, despite outrage and protests from her family. Acting in part to spite her father and to satiate her own dreams of travelling the continent, Keiana threw herself at the preparations for her departure. Now, she finds herself accompanying the Queen Mother’s retinue on the Midsummer’s Pilgrimage – her first steps into the wider world.
Equipment/Important personal items (if applicable):
Her staff – A traditional symbol of the Green Priest Order, made out of hardened Verdani wood.
Traditional Green Priest robes – Yet another sign of her affiliations.
Verdani sapling – Her connection to the Verdani mind, the small potted plant rarely – if ever – leaves her side.

Works for me. Although I may have to fiddle with the age somewhat (Never really rolled with an elven char before, so this'll be a change).

Haha, don't worry about them walking around. They are actually trees rather than ent-like creatures - roots, trunks, branches and all. Apart from their sheer size and diversity you wouldn't consider them different to any other - unless you bonded with them and discovered that in reality it's all one giant semi-conscious thing.

What does this mean? It means that every High Elf on the continent is about to be annihilated and removed completely from existence. A new Sorcalin genocide shall begin.
