Daud cared not to pay attention to the Corpsman as they returned to the planet. Sinestro, mainly because he almost felt death twice from Cyborg Superman because Daud ended up with a Qwardian ring, and Atrocitus because he disliked the killing frenzy that made his friends abandon him. However, the talk on the Guardians was interesting, as the hero had manifested similar beliefs but chose to withhold them for now. Daud also wondered what gave them a mandate to such a claim? The Green Lanterns seem to serve them rather their assigned 'sectors', but needed more time to think, and for once, he wanted to rest. The Rebel Alliances wrote:-snip
The hero nodded at Daniel, who eyed him vigorously as he held onto the Orange Ring. Still, Daud felt the power surging through the device, and a small echo yearning for him to place it back on his finger. However, Daud possessed a will of solid steel, and quickly drove the voice from his mind without much afterthought. He then looked to Kilian and back to Daniel, watching him take off his helmet, and became caught in a crossfire, a power struggle almost. Daud spoke quickly and firmly, informing Daniel on the results of such action.
"Not to say I do not trust or disobey you, Sentinel," He began, "But I believe we can keep it under control." Daud held it firmly, but studied the jewelry. "We may need it one day, who knows. The Guardians are not the rightful owners as well, Larfleeze was. Agent Orange, as they called him, had found the Orange Lantern Battery on his own in the Vega System." Daud walked close to Daniel, however, and looked him square in the eye, not threatening but more as a sign of respect. "However, I will show my trust in you, friend." With that, Daud lowered the ring into Daniel's palms.
"Sometimes, what is fair, isn't always right." With that, Daud followed Kilian to board their return vessel to the Watchtower.
Daud entered the vessel, but was waiting for Daniel to come aboard as well. He had something he wished to discuss, and peering out of the window, he caught sight of something much more interesting than whatever plans he had devised. He saw that girl, who he had caught out of the corner of his eye many times yet never seemed to strike up conversation, or even see if she knew he existed. To be blunt, Daud seemed to be taken up with this woman, and moving to meet her as she came up into the vessel, Daud tried remedy this lack of communication.
"Hello," He said, plainly and without any nervous feelings, to Caraline, "I've seen you around now and again, and I don't really know you." However, quick as a whistle and smooth as hell, Daud continued with, "And I'd like to change that." He gave the girl a genuine smile, hoping to be inviting, or friendly, but trying his best to not be a creep. Whether he had succeeded or not was up to the girl.
Sentinel/Daniel Carter-Oa
The issue of the ring surprised me by being so difficult. Kilian and others wanted to keep it away from the Guardians, despite us being here to aid them. And it would not take long for the Guardians to figure out we have it, considering we are the ones who defeated Larfleeze. I looked over at Daud, with a face telling him I appreciated the gesture. And then back at the rest of the team. Nodding to each of them silently, as I prepared to part with them for a few minutes while I turned the ring over. But figured I should try and alleviate their suspicions. "You may not trust the Guardians. But, they are the head of the Green Lantern Corps which is essential in keeping peace in this vast Galaxy. And checking the advance of the powers of Rage, Fear and Death in the Galaxy with Will. And, like it or not, they will be far more capable of keeping this ring safe than we. We dont even have our own facility to store this ring, with our Ships destruction on Namek. And I wont pretend to know better than beings who have been keeping balance and order in this Galaxy since before there was life on Earth." I then turned to leave in the direction of the Guardians.
Replacing my helmet on my head. I activated my thrusters and began to glide through the air as I grew closer and closer to the radiating green light where the Guardians placed themselves. I touched down, faced by the six small and blue beings. As I faced Ganthet, the leader of the group. I took three steps forward. Kept my mask on and then opened the palm of my hand. The orange ring of Avarice within it. Ganthet, unlike the others, seemed to display a sense of gratitude. And then spoke to me. "You're forces have proven formidable, Sentinel. We know that the decision to trust this weapon to us has created tension among you. You may rest knowing that we will pursue the correct course. We will remember what has happened here today." I took the words at face value, I never had reason to do otherwise. And it would take more than the ranting of Sinestro and Atrocious to make me question my allies. And as long as the Guardians of the Universe maintain the Lantern Corp, the single largest peacekeeping force in the Galaxy, then they are to be trusted in my book.
"Thank you, our team was glad to aid you." I confirmed as I began to walk away. And I moved myself back to our ship. Entering the ship, I once again removed my helmet, as I really only put it back on to keep from holding it while I was flying. Climbing aboard, I found a seat, and rested myself. Looking at my team. Many wounded. But still alive. I sighed and with heavy eyes gave a final order.
"Lets go home."
