While a few generations back Spain gained Siciliy and Napoli through marriage this gave little recompense for the massive Empire that Spain once held.

However, now with no standing empire to pay for the Spanish can use the seemingly endless hoards of wealth to raga in a powerful position in Europe. Her navy is still strong and Her people are resilient, the young queen Isabella prepares for the day expansion will come. And it will come soon. An army amasses in Spain itself as Europe begins to slip into the darkening path of war. The Islands in America would play an extremely integral part in launching invasions to retake the Caribbean and mainland territories. Africa has never looked so appealing a prize. The Spanish May be down but they are far from out.

I think we need to post military numbers. You know divide them between army and navy, only have 1% of total population in peace time. Only three percent in war time and 5% if invaded, however up to 10% with a deteriorating nation as so many soldiers would lead to few farmers and other types of workers.
