Well, Scipio could lose his campaign in Spain against Hannibal's brother (which almost happened irl), and he gets recalled. Then, we have the Carthaginians winning in Sicily, which opens up Hannibal's supply lines, and allows him to besiege Rome and force the Romans into a peace.

Also, this period of instability is perfect for RP, because decisions can be made quickly and have drastic effects.

How about a GoT-themed RP set on the moon? Where, instead of noble families, the belligerents are colonies from a steampunk flavored Europe that carved the moon between them in the 1870's? Things appear civil on the surface, right until contact with Earth is inexplicably cut off by a mysterious solar flare. Then the gloves come off and the knives come out. Before you know it, you have steampunk flavored trench warfare. With clockwork automatons and Lunar Anarchists! On the moon! How amazing would that be?

For a world just do freehand fully blank map.

For Europe, I have a crazy tiny provinces one.

Vicky 2 is about the smallest you can go while still keeping a semblance of borders that make sense, I find. Any smaller and you're forced to draw mostly arbitrary lines.

-The Americas keep horses, camels, and perhaps mammoths in some places, as analogues for similar Eurasian animals, increasing the power of Native American nations
-Various nation-states based on IRL tribes

Basically a book explaining how and why we got from the ancient world to now the way we did in terms of power balance with plenty of useful numbers, reflections while not being dry. I really really ought to read Guns, Germs and Steel though.
