The Sorrow of the Dead: Seeking Peace (OOC/Signup)

Postby Charmera » Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:06 pm

"They say life is but a test. Well we must have been the ones who failed."
Unknown Spectre.

IC

You are a member of the living dead. For one reason or another, your soul has not be allowed to rest after your death. You are currently huanting the St Margrets Hospital of Blueville, Maine. Many of your undead kin have lost hope of passing on, now becoming vengeful spirits who haunt the hospital. Perhaps you have too, but you know you want to be free of this curse of undeath. Legends speak of a way to become living again, however many are skeptical of its authenticity, but if it were to be true… One would be free of undeath forever.

So, will you seek the Holy Grail of the dead to rid yourself of your curse, or will you find another route to peace, a harder, more personal method to attaining your desperately sought after rest. To find what roots you to this earth and cut it. Or will your resolve falter, and condemn you to an eternity of this wretched half dead existence.

Your characters history will be a mystery to everyone, so you will have to discover it as we progress (So it would be advisable to write or work out something before we start). One can do this by finding items connected to their past, but beware, the "Lost" are attracted to such items like moths to an open flame, or by other methods that shall be revealed as we progress. (Connecting your past to the past of other characters is also encouraged). Though the character don't have to have died in the hospital, it would have had to have some role in their lives.

History of the Hospital:
Previously made after the civil war in 1862 to help care for those hit hard by the war, it has suffered misfortune after misfortune. Criminals once robbed the entire hospital to sell the medicine on the black market, A serial killer nurse once used her position to kill patients slowly with a poison, Mysterious deaths, disease killing doctors as well as patients, no wonder everyone considers the hospital cursed. It's recently been completely abandoned in 1984, only the very foolish go there now.

Undead: (All undead are invisible to most humans)
Intangible Undead:
(All intangible undead have the ability to temporarily phase through solid, liquid and gaseous matter and they can float.)

Wraith: Wraiths are undead who were killed by violence, occasionally their death comes back to haunt them in tormenting visions. They have violent tendencies and can project ghostly fire which only burns living beings and spirits.
Banshee: Banshees are undead who were killed in a moment of fear or stress, and that fear haunts them throughout undeath. They can use their horrifying screams as sonic weapons.
Spectre: A spectre was killed by disease or famine. They can rot or decay anything they touch.
Phantom: A being that died with extreme sorrow. As a representation of that, it can control the currents of water and bend the liquid to its will.
Yuki-Onna: These are people who were killed by either extreme cold or were lonely throughout their lives, a loneliness which led to their death. Either way, they have power over ice and cold, able to reduce temperatures and manipulate ice.

Tangible Undead:

Attic Whisperer: A child who died from extreme neglect. Any touched by it have their voice stolen by the small being. It can only steal one voice at a time. On top of that, it is very fast and agile.
Ghoul: A being who died from starvation, now ready to consume its fill of flesh. Extremely durable and owners of considerably sharp claws and teeth.
Spawn: A being who committed great evil, yet died before they could redeem themselves. They have considerable strength and the ability to control blood and a need to feed on it. Some have made comparisons to vampires with them.
Pale Stranger: A being that died with an unfulfilled grudge or that died an unjust death. It has pistols which fire ghostly energy and the ability to regenerate from spectral wounds caused by other ghost powers.
Scarecrow: A being who died allowing that which it protected to be destroyed. It has a ethereal swarm of crows following it and a scythe which damages undead.
Worm that Walks: A being who died in the throes of madness. It has the ability to communicate telepathically and create illusions from its madness.

NPCs:

Reapers: Not much are known about these, but stay away from them. They slowly judge your souls as they stare at you, eventually they will perform a final execution if they find you wanting.
The Lost: Souls of all kinds which have gone mad from the torment of undead, with little more than madness and hate, they attack everything in sight.
Necromancers: Enslavers of the dead, and some of the only humans that can see spirits.

APP:
Code: Select all

Age at death:
Years dead: (151 is the maximum)
Appearance (Alive form)
Appearance (Spirit form, take on this form when in stress or when bright light shines on them. It should look suitably horrifying.)

Spirit Power: (Each undead has a single power which has something to do with their lives. This is independent of the powers one gains from one's spirit type.)
Personality:
How you died:

Name: Marcus
Age at death: 24
Years dead: (151 is the maximum) 50
Appearance (Alive form)
Image

Appearance (Spirit form, take on this form when in stress or when bright light shines on them)
Image

Spirit Type: Pale Stranger
Spirit Power: Dead Set - The wrath of Marcus is a flame that burns coldly, when it's sparked the pale stranger's eyes shall burn as flesh leaves his face revealing nothing but a skull, but by then one is already struck with fear....
Personality: Distant, and Courteous.
How you died: "I, don't, remember, much. I was, angry. I was so mad, that, I, was following- and, I, a gun it, I didn't even have time to speak."
(Marcus had become angered at co-worker, and had become dead set, blind to reason, on the man's demise. Approaching the man however resulted in something odd, as before Marcus could fire a shot, a bullet had made its way into Marcus's skull from behind, and he fell face down upon the pavement. He doesn't remember what he was angry about, only that he was angry, and still knows not who ended his life)

Accepted, though I'm not too sure what Dead Set does...

I originally had his whole body catch flame (not his clothing though, just his body), but, flame didn't play a part in his demise.

What happens if my character is a child who died of extreme neglect and of disease? A Spectre? Or a whisperer?

Depends on what you want, though I'd probably say an Attic Whisperer if the neglect was the main reason why he or she died.

Name: Barnaby Searight
Age at death: 10
Years dead: 24
Appearance:
Image

Spirit Appearance:
Image

Spirit Type: Spectre
Spirit Power:
He likes flowers. The pretty nurse in the hospital he was in always brought a bundle of them for him. She told Barney that she bought them herself, because she felt sorry for him. This is connected to his past life, but he doesn't know that. When he touches flowers, they never wilt and die. He always wonders why exactly that is, but always ends up with no answers.
Personality:
Quite friendly for what he really is. Even before, when he was alive. He was enthusiastic, obedient, and inquisitive.
There was a teacher somewhere away from Barney's own house that he visited frequently to learn to read and write. He is an obedient, respectful boy, but he wants to learn and keeps going even though his father says not to. All the whippings are worth it, since he had gotten a chance at life. Though not exactly a street urchin, he wanders the streets to get away from his violent and unreasonable step father.
How you died:
He got malaria, was left at the hospital by his parents at the care of the doctors there who gladly kept him under his wing until he succumbed to his disease and died.

Well, it's suppose to be more of a weaker, utility power if that helps.

Okay...
Let me know when you come up with something

Anyway, he's my first character:

Name: Miku
Age at death: 16
Years dead: 34
Appearance (Alive form)
Appearance (Spirit form, take on this form when in stress or when bright light shines on them):
Image

Spirit Type: Yuki-Onna
Spirit Power: She can telekinetically close or open doors and even lock them if she desires.
Personality: Cold, unfeeling and generally callous. She finds it hard to trust others, almost to a paranoid degree. Yet she wishes to find someone she can trust, as she is very lonely.
How you died: "I'm not sure… They found me in the freezer in the basement. I'm not sure what I was doing down there or even how long I was in there. I'm not even sure if it was the cold which killed me… I just remember… an empty feeling inside. So cold… So lonely…"
