I know that feeling. Ever since I got a widescreen monitor, I'm like "this paragraph is too damn short, I can't throw it out like that!" even though it's perfectly fine. I suppose it's connected to the fact that in RPs, I tend to try and make speech stand out as a separate paragraph so that it doesn't get glossed over.

On a phone it looks like a decent amount of text so I can live with that.

Believe me it's even worse when you trade in the NationStates sidebar for a topbar.

I've gone and reverted that change just now in hopes of alleviating the biggest pains there.

I feel like I'm adding too many un-needed things to my posts just to take up space. It wasn't a problem on my tiny-screened chromebook, but on my 17 inch monitor with my gaming laptop, I feel so naked.

Application for the character I've been using in the RP. He's already established ICly, so it would be awkward if he was denied, haha.

IC post coming after this is posted.
Original Character Signup Sheet

Nation Name: Neros
Character Name: Wilhelm B. Rotterdam
Affiliations: Rotterdam Institute; Holy Britannian Empire
Age: 48
Rank: Major; Baron Chesterfield (Life Peer)
Bio:
Wilhelm Brandt Rotterdam was born of commoner status in the capital of the Holy Britannian Empire, Pendragon, in the year 1969 a.t.b. The 3rd child and 2nd son of a brick mason and homemaker, Wilhelm's family were Dutch in origin but migrated to Britannia during the social upheaval of the French Revolution. The family itself, however, was one of many in the Imperial colossus of a nation, and up until that point, were of no significance other than masonry and lines of craftsmen. Wilhelm was to follow in his father's footsteps, as well as his older brother Ferdinand, in the masonry business. However, the boy showed remarkable aptitude for tests and science experiments while in school, prompting the family to receive a small grant to send Wilhelm to a private academy in Pendragon to focus his academic talents.

Entering the Arthurian Academy of Sciences at age 13 proved to be a shock for Wilhelm, who at that point was a quiet young lad and of relatively poor family upbringing. The Arthurian Academy, one of the best in the Empire for young boys, was home to a prestiious line of nobles and aristocracy who felt disdain for Wilhelm due to his commoner status. Facing increased bullying and resenting his peers, Wilhelm chose to out-do them in whatever fields he could. Excelling physically and academically, the boy turned into a young man and was consistently ranked top of his class, and top ten in the school, from his freshman year. Graduating #1 at age 17 with acclaim and hype surrounding his work into new fields of technology while still a student, the buzz surrounding him quickly died down as he was taken in by the Imperial Armed Forces for their research and development divisions rather than being given the choice of where he wished to work.

Here, he felt the soul-crushing demands of the Military but was able to garner attention due to his stark abilities compared to his peers, giving him access to and head over his own development team. Here, he pioneered research into improving the biological components of people serving in the Armed Forces by making lightweight, cheap body armor affordable for all Imperial soldiers and improving safety of vehicles while cutting costs. However, his own private research into computers proved to house his greatest accomplishments, with his work on a Global Positioning System for the Imperial Britannian Military when he was 20 while on a development team becoming his most well-known. Following this, he focused his energies into computers and systems development, and began to petition for the creation of his own private company in order to garner interest and compete in the global marketplace.

Thus, the launching of the Rotterdam Institute served another milestone in the young man's life, now 25, and entrenched with loans and investment from the government and private interests to kickstart his work, the young man entered his most productive golden age. Between 1994 and 1999, the Rotterdam Institute was ranked as a top research and development company and was a pioneer in the field of computers, programming, and technology. Here, Rotterdam began to establish a realistic cybernetic field of technology, becoming convinced that with the addition of enhanced parts, people can overcome their weaknesses and eliminate the need of those with natural talent to be given a mandate to govern. Radical at the time, his results proved that total limb replacement was physically possible, and was awarded a Life Peership for the first total leg prosthesis that proved to be a success. This new limb was fully functioning within twelve months of the surgery to apply it, and was able to return the patient to a low-level of nervous system control.

Still, Rotterdam insisted on continuing the development of such advances to equal and then surpass function of lost limbs. This overzealous drive caused other sectors of the Institute to fall out due to increased competition, and the Institute's cybernetic division was the only one experiencing growth and profit. Separating and then selling off portions of the Institute that were failing gave Rotterdam tremendous capital to re-invest in cybernetic development, but the Institute fell out of favor rather quickly when stagnation was beginning to show. At this point, the Institute began an extensive contract with the Imperial Armed Forces to supply replacement body parts to select individuals - namely Officers or special operatives in the field. With this experience and pressure from the Military rather than the private sector, the Institute was able to flourish once more - and by 2009, cybernetics had reached the point of equalling lost limbs and sight.

Closely following the Britannian war machine, the Institute began to become unknown in the public eye and well-regarded in military circles for their work, and by the time of the Second Pacific War, was serving close to the frontlines to provide logistical support and medical care to whomever the upper elite said to. Here, Rotterdam met the singed pile of flesh that was Van Zant, and due to his noble titles and education, was to be provided with life-saving care if applicable. Rotterdam saw his opportunity to make the man a complete cyborg, however, the first of it's kind, following the failure of EU scientists' in treating Ivan Petrovski. Though he was tasked with saving three officers of Van Zant's platoon, only he survived the operation, and would go on to be employed by the Institute as an agent and a sort of testing grounds - and at some point, friend - of Rotterdam. Due to Zant's experience in piloting Knightmare Frames, the Institute opened another division for the first time since the company was reduced to just cybernetics in order to provide an interface and military potential to Van Zant.

Rotterdam himself is by all definitions of the word an asshole, relatively uncaring of those not himself or close to him, yet is prone to acts of goodwill and unshown kindness, making him a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. Through the years, he developed a habit of swearing constantly, enjoying his wine, brandy, whiskey, and cheap cigars while disregarding most social parameters through mostly his ego. His loyalty to the Empire is, on paper, unquestionable, but in real life applications, not too extravagant. He is mostly holding out because the EU and Chinese Federation haven't made him an offer worth leaving his homeland yet. He disagrees with many ideas promoted by the aristocracy, but none of which are public knowledge. As far as most people know, he is simply a nutty scientist who enjoys alcohol and loose women as much as he loves cybernetics.

Weapons: N/A
Secondary Weapons: Britannian Silenced Pistol
Special Abilities (Geass/Piloting Skills/Special Weapons):
Scientific Prowess: Lord Rotterdam is the leading scientist and innovator in the field of Cybernetics for the Holy Britannian Empire. His private designs and inventions are years ahead of current, public-aware designs. He has a mastery of the human mind and body that nearly no one else has shown to possess, able to re-write nerve pathways and go so far as to improve them rather than simply return to their original function. His cybernetic research has steadily evolved from 'hard-shell' adaptations (think Ghost in the Shell) to fully nanite-based 'soft-shell' models, giving user a look and feel of being Human rather than machine without sacrificing added strength or endurance. Through these micromachines, Rotterdam is able to copy over an organic brain into a cybernetic one, which of itself is a revolutionary advancement, but one that had only been disclosed to the Imperial Government.

Intuitive Aptitude: A gut feeling proves to be right nearly all the time for Rotterdam, which translates into him being able to gain understanding of complex machines with little formal training and solely relying on his thought power and hyper-logical mind. He could, in theory, be an all-rounded scientist and advance inventions in all fields - if he cared to do so, which he does not. His driving goal is integrating man with machine, and so possesses innate knowledge on cybernetics and Knightmare Frames yet cannot make projections on astrological alignments and such because those things do not interest him.

Vehicles: Aviation Small Floating Ship Camlann

Superb. Anyone reacted yet to the fact a Chinese army was on Japanese soil?

I think the 33rd EU KMF Regiment is flipping its shit off-screen and wondering where their commander is and why the fuck they can't reach her.

Not that I plan to assist the Chinese much in their invasion - it's far too early for a decisive victory and they're willing to take children as hostages.
