The Exodus [IC]

Postby Township 285 » Mon Sep 29, 2014 1:17 pm

Nava Olesnik woke up with a start, hearing the whistling of the tea kettle in the kitchen. The sound bounced off the steel walls, making a loud noise in one room into a loud noise in every room. She sat up in her bed, rubbing her eyes, dreading another day of work within the iron grasp of Supervisor Nicol. Gareth Nicol had a reputation within the Township as being the most brutal Supervisor in the history of the safesite. Nava hated the man, but she had no choice but to work for him.

She stood up slowly, stretching as she did so, and walked to her wardrobe. Once dressed in her Guards uniform, she left the apartment, waving to her father on the way. Walking through the great subterranean streets of the Township was a task in itself, as in recent years the supposedly safe place had been flooded with gang presence. Nava, living in the western division of the Township, had to deal with the most brutal of the four gangs - The Cobras. The Cobras, The 285 Kings, and The Wise had been embroiled in a gang-war for the past year, and it was tearing up the western and southern divisions of the township, allowing the economically minded Familia gang to capture the entirety of the eastern and northern divisions. Staying out of the gangs was not easy, but Nava had been successful so far.

Joseph woked up and looked at his ceiling. ~I believe that today could be a decent day. I wish the gangs went away, the Familia takes way to much of my mom's profits. Then again we still have the store.~ Joseph stood and put his guard uniform on. He left the house and started making his way through the northern district towards Guard hq to report in to Supervisor Nicol.

Nava entered the Guards headquarters in the Township Center, sighing as she passed by the dusty shelves once used to hold books of countless varieties. Not that she was ever a reader, but she did feel it was wrong to neglect the older ways of learning. Guard Captain Andrew Vargas stood in front of his desk, talking on the phone quite angrily. Nava felt this was the perfect time to piss him off, so she snuck over to her old mentor's door. She took the shock stick from her belt and positioned it onto the door handle, pressing the button on the handle. The door blew open violently, causing Captain Vargas to dive to the floor, practically throwing the phone across the room. He looked over at Nava with an angry glare. "If this was anyone other than you, Olesnik, I'd have you shot." Nava just smiled, waving to the Captain before walking to her desk, beginning on the paperwork piled there.

Vito threw his legs over the fence, not bothering to check his surroundings. He'd broken into this house before. His AMT Automag V pistol was in his right hand, a silencer fixed to the barrel. He stayed vigilant, but not as much so as he usually did. The Kings didn't roam these blocks as much these days. He was suddenly alerted to a sound inside one of the metal, boxlike houses behind him. He immediately hit the deck, under the cover of the Township's artificial night. Not five feet from where he hid, three 285 Kings came out of a doorway, cigarettes occupying their hands. One of them appeared to be overly intoxicated, but the other two were still targets. Vito moved slowly, taking aim at the King on the left, eventually taking his shot. The bullet connected with the King in the middle of his face, but at an upward angle, making it an instant kill shot. The other sober King reached for his gun, and was about to open his mouth to call out when Vito placed three shots into the man's chest and neck. The King went down, sucking for air. The drunk King was so absolutely hammered that he didn't recognize the violence right away, which gave Vito the chance to knock him out with a sharp blow to the back of the skull. He then mimicked a bird call, signaling for his men to help him move the bodies, and to put the unconscious King into the van.

Once in the van, Vito grunted at the driver, frustrated with the man's lack of awareness, "Hey, get this shit moving, you useless fillo de puta! The news will have this all over by the afternoon. I don't wanna be dealing with those pompinara Guards!"

Nava felt her mind drifting off as she stared at the metal wall of the Guards headquarters. She'd finished her paperwork, and no calls had come in. Calls from the public were increasingly rare in light of the recent gang power struggles. She let out a big yawn, standing up to go to the water cooler. Before she made it there, a ringing sound came from behind the dispatch desk. The secretary took the phone, a stern look on her face. The older woman yelled unnecessarily loudly to Nava, "Hey Olesnik, two bodies were found out by Jefferson in West. Caller says they've got gang tattoos. Go give it a check."

Nava sighed, grabbing her holster and gun and strapping them to her belt. She put on her Guards jacket before walking outside, realizing that the day had begun. She walked quickly to her vehicle, slightly less heavily armored than the others, but still able to deflect more than a few bits of ammunition. Once inside, the heads-up-display - already set up with GPS by the dispatcher - showed a radar point where the bodies were found. She stepped on the gas and hurried there, finding that it was a residential scene. Several people were milling around, which was too risky for Nava. She blared the siren, clearing the people away quickly. She got out of the vehicle and walked over to the location, seeing the bodies that were mentioned. They were killed with a precision that only the Familia used. They didn't usually come out this far to attack the 285 Kings, which was something worthy of noting. Upon searching the bodies, Nava found a map of the Township, but it had strange markings on it. The marking seemed to point towards a section of the outer wall, which was deep inside Familia territory. The note underneath the arrows read, "ESCAPE."

Nava immediately pulled her Guards-issue mobile device and phoned Joseph Steel, the only Guardsman younger than she was, knowing that he'd have some idea what the message meant. Hopefully he'd be getting to the headquarters relatively soon.

Joseph had just walked into Guards HQ and walked towards Captain Vargas's office. Sir, Guard Joseph Steel reports for the day." "Good, We just had call of two bodies with gang markings by Jefferson in the West District, Olesnik is in route to the scene." Captain Vargas replied. "Yes sir, I'm on my way to back her up." Joseph walked to his desk and grabbed his 1911 .45, an AR-15, and ammo for both. He securely put a mag in each one, walked out of the police station and jumped in his truck, which was one of the heaviest armored vehicles in the force. He turned on his sirens and sped towards the crime scene. He started to get in a zone, when his issued mobile device went off. He looked at the message and was a little baffled by what he saw. "That can't be right." He pressed the call button and kept driving to the scene.

Nava was leaning up against the house where the two deceased likely lived. She'd just listened to an elderly woman rant about how the tenants were very messy, and heavily involved in their gangs. She was really waiting for the call from Guard Steel. Just as she pulled out her mobile and prepared to call Captain Vargas, she noticed something out of place. In between the two spots where the men were shot, there was a different kind of blood trail. It was much thinner, indicating that not as much blood had come from the victim. Then, she noticed that the trail stopped after only a short run. She thought hard about what that could mean, but the answer was clear to her. The third man must have been taken away by the assailant. Immediately she began considering all of the different possibilities, ranging from a Familia raid to an in-house operation by the Kings. Before she could really nail down a theory, her mobile started to ring. She saw that it was Guard Steel, and picked up. "Guard Steel, I assume you've been briefed?"

"Yeah I've been briefed, I'm a minute out, well scratch that, I just turned on Jefferson. Have you seen anything out of the ordinary other then the map?" Joseph turned on to Jefferson. He slammed on the brakes just as a young boy walked into the street. He slammed the steering wheel to the left, let out a few dozen curse words, and narrowly missed the boy. He brought the truck to a stop and hopped out. The little boy looked at him for a second and ran away screaming for his mom and dad. "Great, Now I'm scary according to that kid." He then jumped back in the truck and kept driving to the crime scene. "Sorry about that I'm a block away now."

Vito held up his fist to the already broken face of the 285 King, threatening to strike him again. "Tell me where you hid the map, fillo. If you don't listen to me, you'll get hurt even worse." He looked over to one of his men, signaling for him to bring over the martelo, a brutal torture hammer. The King started to squirm when he saw it. Vito took the martelo and raised it, screaming in the King's face, "Tell me where you hid the damn map!" The King whimpered, not divulging the information. Vito shouted again, "Me cago na cona que te botou!" He brought down the martelo as hard as he could onto the man's knee, breaking it and likely the end of the femur as well. The King started to cry, pleading with Vito. "Please, I don't have the map. I never had it. One of the guys back at the house had it." Vito took in the information, but wasn't very happy. He turned to speak with his men. "Looks like we're going back to the house." He turned back to face the King, swinging the martelo with all of his strength, striking the man in the temple, causing the cranium to break apart and make quite a mess. Vito smirked and left the room, headed towards his car with two of his men. He stopped, however, running up the stairs into his bedroom, and changed out of his blood-stained clothes. Then, he sped off in his vehicle with two Familia soldati.

Nava grinned, finding it funny that Steel scared the kid. "Alright Steel, I have some interesting theories about this one. Not sure if I'm right, but I've got a gut feeling." She hung up the call and walked back to the scene of the crime. Based on the blood spatter on the wall, she figured that the shooter had been in the prone position. She also ruled out a shotgun, which was the choice of weapon for the Cobras gang members. No shotgun in the Township would have been that precise and clean. And of course the Wise were ruled out, since they swore off guns and decided to use only knives. She stopped speculating, however, and went back to the front of the house, waiting for Steel, who she could see approaching from down the road.

He walked over to Nava "Hey Nava, I'm going over to the alley, Judging from the bullet wounds and blood pattern there should be 4 brass casings, and the guy that took the shot to the head got hit by a marksman." He walked over to the Alley and found 4 brass casings all .50 AE. "This was a Familia Hit, but why are they all the way out here? Nava can you show me that map?"

She pointed out the short blood trail to him. "I think the Familia shooter may have taken one of the victims off with him." She finally took a moment to check the wrist of one of the victims. "I never really knew of the Familia coming out this far to hit the Kings. In fact, the Kings and the Familia have had a sort of unofficial cease-fire to deal with the Cobras. The Familia must really want something. I'm guessing that something is that map there."

Vito drove down the road, traditional canción music coming out of the radio and rolling out of the windows. Vito was sure there would be Guards all over the site, but he didn't expect the two rookies. There was a female Guard who looked pretty attentive, but there was a male Guard with a real weapon, so he figured it'd be a bad idea to engage. One of the men in the back of the car tapped Vito on the shoulder, "Hey, Vito, a rapaza é bonita, no?" Vito shot the man a glare through the mirror, but agreed with him. The Familia men parked their sleek black car across the street from the scene, not caring if the Guards saw them or not. Vito wanted to know exactly who had the map, and he got his answer. The girl had it, and Vito wanted it back.

Jack woke up early in the morning, he sat up on his bed rubbing his eyes together thinking to himself. Another day in paradise... He got up and put on his overalls Jack was the farmer for Township 285 very important for the people living here as they depended on him to grow fresh vegetable. He took a step outside and went around the back to check on his crops living in the bunker he used artificial light on the crops since barely any sun enters, he went up to one of the tomatoes he was growing to check on how they were progression.

He took his hand and placed it on the tomato checking its color, it was turning brown in certain area's it wasn't a good sign for Jack he then took a look at the soil placing his hand on the ground to pick up some dirt. "It must be the dirt.. It has to be... five generations of the cambell family used this ground and it must of been overworked.. If I can't find a solution to this problem it wouldn't be trouble for me but the whole township." He got back up sighing and all he could do for now is to fertilize the dirt, he had to head into the market to buy some more he went back inside the house to grab his keys and his gun. He knew about the gangs going on in the town he didn't want to get robbed or murdered so he brought it for protection, he got in his pick up and headed towards the market.

Joseph looked at the map. "The shooter is a handgun marksman, I mean we are a bout 50 meters from here to where the two bodies are at, He was also prone judging how close the casings are together, plus this is also .50 AE, Which is a fifty caliber round designed for pistol unlike the .50 BMG which is designed for rifles. Only the best pistol shooters in the Familia are giving this ammo to use. This map looks like a Familia map judging by the detail put into it and it also has the Familia symbol on the top right. This mark on this map is really close to where my dad works at, I know there's what can be used as a smuggling tunnel close to there. Ok, There is also a footnote here reading escape. We should check it out." ~How I long to see the surface. I mean all the greens and the blues, the sun, the grass, and the breeze. It has to feel better then being in here all the time~ Joseph walked towards the trail of blood. He sighed and look back towards Nava. "Let's see where this trail goes after the corner gets here and collets the bodies." He then walked over to the wall and looked it over. "We also have four bullet entrances over here on the wall."

She handed the map over to Joseph, a bit nervous that he might see the escape note. She yearned to see the outside world, and she felt that she now had a chance. "I agree with you that this was Familia. I think this was all done by one shooter though. Likely with a handgun. I don't remember ever reading about Familia using marksmen. If you look at the bullet trajectories, it seems that the shots were all fired from very low to ground, and all were lethal. The interesting thing is this, though." She pointed out the short blood trail to him.

Nava looked at the bullet entrances on the wall, feeling hopeful. "Once the CSI's get here I'm sure they can pull something from here." She noticed a vehicle parked on the other side of the road, and the driver was watching them. She was very discrete, pretending as though she hadn't noticed the men. She spoke, but didn't look nervous, "Hey, Steel, don't draw attention, but there's a looker across the road. Sleek black vehicle says Familia to me. They're the only ones who care about the classic cars these days." She placed her hand on her pistol, just in case it got ugly. "Seeing as I'm your superior, I have the call on this. I say we wait on it, and if they stay, we'll approach."

"They'll see me as the threat before they see you as one do to me being more heavily armored with the AR and wearing thicker armor and so let me take front if we have to approach, That way if we are fired on I will have a better chance of surviving then you would, also remember if any one of these guys were the ones that killed these two and kidnapped the other he will either have 0 to maybe at max 5 bullets left in his .50 AE Pistol. That's the Familia alright, If you want I can talk to them, remember I live in their territory and my mom's shop is a big part of their operations for legal goods. Just act cool and calm down. There's a reason they put me and you together. You got the brains and the looks where I just got the bronze. Oh by the way My mom want's us to eat lunch at the shop if your up for it?" Joseph looked over at the car. "See if one of the CSI's can take your vehicle back to HQ, While we have the map we are better off moving around in my truck if things get dicey, but it's your choice boss." Joseph looked back at Nava and smiled.

Vito watched as the two Guards seemed to take an interest in him and his crew. He didn't budge, despite the real danger. He knew they'd recognize him if they got close, so therefore he knew that they wouldn't kill him. He didn't care much about his men. He even felt so bold as to step out of his car, leaning against the side of the hood in his fine black suit, staring at the Guards through his aviator sunglasses. He shouted towards the Guards, "Ei, por que non vén dicir Hola?!"

Nava nodded, hardly thinking about her lunch plans with the dangerous types sitting in the car. Before she could really respond to Steel, one of the Familia got out of the car, leaning on the side. He was a big guy, and awfully familiar looking. She gasped when she realized who he was. "Shit, Steel, that's Vittorio Tourino. He's the Conselleiro under Big Antonio Rial. We can't kill him, there's a reward for him alive." She took mobile cover behind Guard Steel, keeping her weapon at the ready.

He nodded and brought his weapon up to his shoulder and trained it on Vitto's heart. "He also carries a pistol that fires .50 AE, so let's bring him in for questioning then if you want, and see if he knows anything about what happened here this morning. You want me to talk to him, I don't know the language he just spoke but he will talk in English if he knows there's a language barrier." He slowly started walking towards Vitto and his car.

Vito started towards the Guards, his hands in the air. He had ordered his men to take a defensive position with eyes on the two officers, in case things went bad. "I am here to negotiate with you. I will not be detained, but I will be heard. You have with you a map. This map belongs to my family. If it is not returned, I will be forced to have you both dealt with. These days, the Familia has bigger guns than you do, Guardsman." He smirked and lit up a cigar, gripping the butt within his teeth.

"Well y'all may have bigger guns but that doesn't mean a thing Vitto, because if you have me injured or killed you can kiss your deal with my family goodbye, goodbye to getting a part of the profit from Steel's General Goods and getting access my father's inventions when y'all think they can help the Familia out, besides I can take out both of your guards in a instant if I think they are going towards their weapons, besides you know how fast I can shot or even take someone down in hand to hand combat, But I still think hurting me is a bad way to go and try to get more of a share in my mother's store don't you?" Joseph glanced back at Nava and quickly brought back his attention to Vitto and his guards.

Vito laughed, not willing to put up with any more of the gunslinging garbage. "Look, kid. All I want is that map. If I go away to your little jail, your Mom loses our support. If I don't bring back that map, your Mom will lose more than the store. I don't want to hurt you, kid, but you're really getting on my nerves. I suggest you have that pretty little thing behind you come over here with me. I'm probably better company anyway. At least I have something to offer." He spat on the ground, then took another long draw from his cigar. "All I want is the damn map."

Joseph moved to Nava's left making sure he still had a clear shot at all three, but was also in a position to be able to pull Nava out if he had to. "Vito, If word got out about this map already then we can expect the other gangs to be heading this way especially if dead and more dead have friends coming to meet up with them. Just let us take the map back and I will personally return it after it's been looked over." Joseph then did a quick look of his surroundings to make sure no one was trying to sneak up on Nava and him.
