I assumed events were occurring non-concurrently, just around the same time. If we have to perfectly synchronise time and events across the world, then doesn't that cause everyone to have to wait on a few people? For example, say my character is sleeping at night in Leraven. Do I have to wait for everyone on the other side of the world to post everything their characters do that day (IC time), and then I post everything my character does that day (IC time) while they all wait with their characters asleep?

Everything doesn't have to be synchronised, but as it was mentioned in the first post of the IC as the setting....

Well, look at the map and see how far it's gone, then think of the fact that it's been around for 100,000 or more years. It spreads slow :P

Yes, they are going to a mid-sized port town a couple kilometers to the south.

Name: Herakles Hadrianos Hektoros
Age: 23
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Male
Bio: Having been born to a poor family, Hektor was already at a disadvantage to the other citizens of Derakith. Hektor's mother still taught him everything she knew about deceit and trickery though, and his father began lessons on how to wield a blade as well as how to network around the province. By age six Hektor had joined his mother at Dora's Bitchery, a whorehouse, and often left with his father to sweet talk stingy merchants or charm favors from a Lord's daughter. By age eight Hektor was quite experienced with life, knowing how to lie, cheat, steal, charm, threaten, and murder, though he hadn't needed to that last one yet. In addition to these skills he picked up a few hunting and navigating techniques while traveling with his father.

At age nine his mother was murdered while working at the whorehouse, and nearly a weak after his father mysteriously disappeared only to be found in a ditch outside the city. Hektor was reasonably successful with living alone, but he was soon found out and taken to an orphanage. As was standard procedure, he was tested for magic, and to his surprise he had the gift. Hurriedly shipped off to a big magic school in the south, Hektor spent the next eight years learning magic and controlling his emotions. During this time quite a few of his skills, such as those earned at the whorehouse, were put to good use. Soon Hektor was given private lessons and expert help for the various goods and services he was able to give, such as money. The sparsely populated town he lived before was quite wide open, so pick pocketing was hard to get away with, but here, in a city squashed between a mountain and the sea, it was laughably easy to cut purse strings and snatch fancy gadgets.

Graduating top of his class, Hektor was known throughout the school, and several grimmer parts of the city, as an excellent tradesman. Now eighteen he had no plans for his future, instead he kept doing all he knew; simply surviving. He made deals with merchants, blackmailed princesses, assassinated governors, and slept with drunken bastards. Some who sought him, he'd graduated as the best of the best after all, were often surprised by his way of life, and instead of hiring him for whatever wizardry they wanted from, they instead contracted him to do their dirty work, this was alright with him, Hektor felt the less be used his magic then the less likely corruption will get to him.

At nineteen his lucky streak came to an abrupt end when his city of residence was crushed by a rival further inland. When canons blew up his apartment, Hektor had no choice but to pack up his belongings and leave. He was quite surprised at how long it took to get everything ready, with his monstrous income and conservative spending Hektor was probably the wealthiest man in the entire city. Or at least he would've been if the city still stood. Settling down in a small city near a Light Wall was a bit scary, but Hektor planned to head west and sail for one of the other continents, and this was the fastest route. While spending a few days resupplying it was discovered that Hektor was a Mage. While in his old city Mages were common, there had been a large school there, in the rest of the province Mages were hated. Promptly evicted from the city Hektor's small caravan of belongings was forced to continue the journey undersupplied.

The trip west had been a dangerous affair, the path littered with greedy Lords and bandits alike. Fortunately only a small amount of Hektor's wealth was lost, and only because a pack of wolves took one of the horses during the night and there's been no way to carry so much stuff without the beast. While passing through the inland paths, all crag and rock faces, Hektor passed through a town where he overheard a plan to break one of the Light Walls. Normally Hektor would've recognized the threat and dealt with it, but the prospect of being possessed scared him and he wasn't sure of his ability to control his fear if confronted with Corruption Cultists. Instead Hektor raced to the nearest coastal city, the fact that the city was under attack by a particularly large mercenary company was disregarded, and payed a ridiculous amount of money to get buy a ship. He loaded his monies and goods quickly and left without a backwards glance. The next day the Light Walls had to be moved back a few meters due to mysterious malfunctions. Hektor squashed his guilt and plotted a course for the west.
Occupation: Whatever-for-Hire
Faction: Unaffiliated / Himself
Religion: Wants to believe in the Teachings of Aethalia, but lack of exposure has kept him away.
[Magic:]
Tarot Reading: With a set of enchanted cards Hektor is capable of guessing the future.
Shapeshifter: Using a ritual involving blood, emeralds, and hair, Hektor and take the form of a small black cat for an unknown amount of time.
Widow's Kiss: Enchanting his blood, if any of Hektor's bodily fluids were to enter another's system, it acts like a drug, hazing perception and and confusing emotions.
Caspar's Gold: Hektor is capable of freezing air or water into ice, useful when living in dirty or hot habitats with no fresh water.
Dragonfly Bomb: A few words and flames will dance in uncontrollable glee, Hektor can make fire, but once created he cannot control it.

The Soothe Sayer ability was meant to be more of a mental poke in the appropriate direction more so than actual control, but it's not important so I can drop it.

As to his lifestyle, yes it's a dark life, but that just means cutting off your emotions is an advantage, and a welcome one too. He will be a lot more lax about controlling his happy emotions as opposed to the jail cells he keeps his bad emotions in. I purposely kept Hektor's emotions and personality out of the Bio, I want to show that off in the IC rather than give everything up in the the app. He should also be okay since he's gone west, away from the bad and to the better continents. He may get a bit frustrated since the people are less likely to require his skills, but he's got enough money that he won't need to work. And a boat. Maybe piracy is in my future? Dunno, I haven't decided.

I would rather you got rid of it.

It doesn't matter how close he is to the corruption, it could still corrupt him anyway. He just needs to not have dark thoughts, like being happy about killing someone or something

That was actually kind of confusing. Is being happy about murder a negative emotion? He won't be like that, but the way that was phrased confused me. I would think it a positive emotion, just about a negative situation, but if not then does that mean the Corruption is simply evil making itself permanent as opposed to a magical parasite preying on the weak?

Too many dark thoughts, which being happy about killing someone is a dark thought, makes it so the corruption can worm it's way into your mind. Truly positive thoughts and emotions is what doesn't allow that.

Literally spent forever on that post. Let me know if anything is a no-no, like the part about the ship at the end. I could just have it sail around the continent, but I like the idea of potentially reaching the inland kingdoms for rp purposes.

I did name the random city at the end, I was reluctant to do so because everyone decided to tiptoe around naming places in case they were claimed later, but I think naming places will help flesh out the map. Speaking of, what all is going on that? Just kingdom borders? Or are you adding capitols, important trade cities, and/or NPC kingdoms etc.?

Also, if I make a pirate headquarters, which I haven't decided if I will be one or not, do I need to make a faction or kingdom app?

I'm a stickler for realism, so I dislike the part about the flying ship. Assuming it's sixty tons (fairly light for a ship, and that's not counting cargo), you are going to need a balloon about 1.1 times the size of the Hindenburg if you're using hot air. That's a challenge with 20th century technology, let alone medieval tech. If Terintania will let you have a flying ship, I'd feel better if it flew by magic or something rather than trying to pretend its realistic.

I'll revise it.

EDIT: I decided to simply scrap it. Operation Airship is negative. I'm not going to worry about it if there are stingy realist investing in the thread. Being stingy isn't always a bad thing, like now is an alright time to keep close to realism. I just think there needs to be a bit of leniency since all of this worlds inventions are likely to possess both magic and technology in it's production, but there were some very valid points in that hot air was a terrible idea and my general ignorance made the whole scene rediculous. In future I'll keep note that my stupidity will probably annoy someone and instead I'll make everything look suitably magical to cover it up.
