We're not dirt poor. At least I hope not. I expected most of our incomes to be from exporting our silverwares and woollen cloth. England was built on wool don't you know ;)

While true, for the setting of this RP the commercial mining of coal is a bit advanced, no?

The Chinese had been using coal since c. 3500 BC, the Greeks and Romans had used it for heating since before the 2nd Century AD. And in Britain, yes it was much later, but in the 1200s, coal began to be traded around Scotland, and so we can assume that there may have been coal trade and mining to some degree in this world.

There will be mining and trading of course, but coal didn't have even close to the same value in these times compared to later centuries. Why pay more for coal when logs heat you just as well?

We have lumber as well, so I think we might be good.

I'd go with moderate to slightly below-average wealth for us.

Oh yeah, definitely. But it would still have been used.

Coal only became important because of large scale deforestation in later stages of europe, until that point charcoal was the primary thing used by blacksmiths and long with regular logs heating of homes. Coal though not as good quality was cheaper and at that point more environmentally friendly since it didn't require you to cut down a bunch of trees which was an issue. Part of the thing that fueled the colonization of the americas was the fact that north america was filled with trees.
