Antiquity Rises Rampant: 3.0 (OOC/Open)

Postby Liecthenbourg » Tue Aug 26, 2014 5:44 pm

Antiquity, the birthplace of Civilization as we know it. Here Philosophy, Mathematics, Language, the Arts, Political Ideals and more were born and flourished under the watchful eyes of the Greeks, Persians, Mesopotamians, Egyptians and more. The years have not been kind however and many great nations have been lost to the ages, forgotten under the tides of sand in the great clock of time. Noble leader of an Ancient People, the Gods have called you to their feet and have informed you to lead your people to power and glory and create a civilization that the future generations will look upon in awe. Onwards to victory!

T I M E

This RP begins in 500 BC, and time advances at current at 25 years per page. This allows for reasonable nation and lore building will we do not drag on aimlessly with a slow timescale.

R E G I O N S

In your application, you will be asked to provide a map showing what provinces you have claimed. It can be 6-7 small provinces (A vast majority of the provinces in Europe and North Africa), 3-4 medium provinces (Those in Anatolia, Georgia, Armenia, Mesopotamia and just directly south of the Algerian/Moroccan Coast) or 1-2 large provinces. (Saharan Africa and Russia/Kazakhstan).

Name of Civilization: (Germanic) Tribe of Vurgundy
Location: http://i.imgur.com/cY1vUSP.png
Specialty: Land Warefare
Nomad: -/-
If Nomad trader or raider: Raiding tribe
History: The Tribe was founded long ago and like many other Germanic tribes, it is not overly developed nor is it focused on being so, currently. Over time the tribe grew to encompass many surrounding tribal groups and became known as Vurgundy. Now, it stands at an impasse as technology from southern Europe is reaching the borders of the small tribe and it is learning to take a hold of this technology to advance and grow its borders.
Culture: The tribe is solidly germanic in culture. It speaks a version of the language group and is deeply rooted in its pagan faith.

or should I do part of England?
*Huzzah he lives!*

Nah, son. Britain was all like "yo, why my colonies be all uppity an' shit?!" And Lord Durham laid it straight: "they be wantin' legislation with representation, dawg."

Reserve Cyprus and Crete for me, please.
AH, PMT, some FT.

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded ultra-progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a journalist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a liberal.
To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a considerate idealistic egalitarian with many strong convictions.

Name of Civilization: The Grand Dominion of Ameral
Location: The Dominion is in the Scarlet
Specialty: Artisanship, Agriculture
Nomad or Settled: Sedentary
History: The Ameralites are an ancient seafaring people; historically, they migrated down the coast of Asia Minor and Palestine from near the northern Black Sea region during their nomadic phase, looting and plundering as they went, driven onwards by their overpopulation over the length of the Middle Sea. Eventually they came to the region they now inhabit, and their Patriarch Amass Ameral said, "This land is rich, a land flowing with milk and honey. Here a wandering tree can put down deep roots in black soil." So they settled, rapidly transitioning for their pastoralism to varied agriculture, which flourished in the rich climate of the Iberian plains. Increased food production and nutrients led to an increase in job specialization, with a distinct artisanal class emerging. Raids on their unwalled towns by nomadic tribes led to the evolution of a small professional military class know as Battlelords, supported by the goods of the populace below them, and the modern-day Ameralites live in a variety of city-states or polises that are united every two generations or so by a particularly ambitious Amerali Battlelord or Highprince, only to return to business as usual upon his death.
Culture: Ameralites are, by and large, a people who value industry and skill over wealth and health. Most cities are governed by Artisan-Rulers, called Citylords, men of great prowess in their chosen field who have risen to prominence through their wealth acquired from the trade of their superior goods throughout the lands of the Ameralites and beyond. Under them are the Battlelords of a given city, generally only fifty to a hundred warriors in larger cities, representing about one in five hundred citizens, supported by the polis and trained towards martial perfection so in time of war they may lead their untrained countrymen well. Battlelords will occasionally rule cities if large nomad incursions occur, at the consent of the polis, which votes in an open forum. Votes are weighted by contributions in a given year to the central government in either labor or goods, and as such both a fairly complex writing system consisting of forty tonal symbols and a crude currency in the form of ox-hide shaped copper wedges have developed. Sea trade is prevalent in the coastal city-states, and advanced long-boat vessels reach as far afield as Tunis, southern Italy, and Greece. Bronze is used for plowing in richer city-states, a development that has led to great agricultural fertility, and rich Battlelords bear copper weapons and bronze shields, though most make do with copper and leather.

Name of Civilization: Tribe of the Brigantes
Location: http://i.imgur.com/SmB2u0Y.png
Speciality: Land Warfare and Assimilation (Stealing other tribes' speciality)
Nomad or Settled: The Brigantes themselves are mostly settled, however many tribesmen and other tribes under their rule are nomadic.
If Nomad trader or raider: Most nomadic Brigantes are raiders rather than traders.
History: The history of the Brigantes is kept through tongue and voice rather than pen and parchment, and therefore it is difficult to document most of their history. It is widely accepted, though, that the tribe have existed for some time have during that time have begun a gradual conquest of northern Britannia.
Culture: The Brigantes speak a Brythonic language not dissimilar to most other languages spoken by the Britons, which is widely known by outsiders as 'Briton', and with the Brigante language being merely a dialect of the Briton language. The Brigantes are devoted to their faith, which has been best classified as 'Druidism'. The clergy of this religion are, as the name would suggest, Druids. They claim to contact the vast plethora of Celtic gods; Brigantia being their patron Goddess. The Tribe is lead by a King or Queen, with the rights of succession mostly drawing from whomever has the pointiest stick.

Looks good Calt, accepted. Though I must add on this assimilation. We all have that, for example as we all have land warfare, since it is safe to assume you have access to for example, good architects if you take a location belonging to me. You just find it easier to incorporate them. Does that make sense?

Name of Civilization: The Vinnic Tribes
Location: http://i.imgur.com/x7KcrnA.png
Speciality: Land Warfare, Masonry (Construction)
Nomad or Settled: Settled
If Nomad trader or raider: N/A
History: The Vin People migrated from Western Germany to the west, raiding and pillaging other people in order to acquire their life needs. They established themselves on the Northern parts of France, where they became properly sedentary and applied values and knowledge they had learned from those they subjugated, such as agriculture and masonry. The Vinnic Tribes were formed out of the union of several Proto-Frankish tribes in the area and the Vin People, forming the Vinnic Tribes. Since their formation, they have focused on perfecting the art of combat, and have subjugated several other tribes through the use of iron and stone.
Culture: The "Builders of the North," as they would be referred to in millennia, are an odd mixture of the Proto-Franco and the Proto-Germanic cultures, although currently they are more Germanic than Frankish. They are devoutly pagan, and believe in a circle of gods that will purportedly bring success in war. War is a primordial aspect of the Vinnish culture, who values progress in the aforementioned aspect of life more than just about anything else. Even women are encouraged to take up arms and fight for their people when the Chief requires additional hands, or their husbands are ill.

Hmm, it might be a bit early for holding that far afield. The Phoenicians and Greeks didn't get in the colonization game for another couple hundred years.

Well, if you don't have the incentive of the Greek and Phoenicians to colonize, you'll hardly be colonizing before them.

It's not the overpopulation incentive. It's the take ALL the things incentive. Trading also, like 50/50, we will slowly be going more towards trading. Either way, so far you can barely consider it colonization.

Every civilization around the Med basin had a trade incentive; they didn't take any areas because of it, all the same. In our era galleys are slow and highly coastal, and navigation a highly imprecise art. Even getting from Italy to Corsica is likely fraught with danger.
