It threw me off but the fact that no one is really using guns, save that one guy who wrecked the castle (castles being rather obsolete in the military sense). What I mean to say is, that since such modern elements are hardly being used I still see everything as a not so modern Equestria. Sure Manehattan has a modern feel architecturally, but the wealthy class present still looks Victorian in my mind.

Victorian with a touch of modernity, perhaps?

To me suits haven't changed since Victorian times. Suits, and hats. That's what I see. What could modernity add to that? We already know elements from the 80s to be present in Equestria; take the bowling ally, or Twilight's computers. All I really see being added in this RP are guns; and motor vehicles- though the later I've not actually read of in the IC.

Edit: I'll admit, I can see some 90s elements as well; like the Big Limbroskie pony... I think I spelled that right.

Exactly, there's nothing that wrong with them being around. More options provided the extreme uses of said options are monitored is a good thing for RPs.

-snip-

The only none emotional statement I could make on the inclusion of guns; and with it other forms of gunpowder, is that the use makes the castle obsolete, along with the metal armored knight (unless your playing Fallout Equestria). The entire face of European warfare was altered by the canon- soon fortified cities became no more, and the castle became more and more luxury like as it's role as fortification diminished.

Edit: The diminishing of the castles role in warfare contributed to rising republicanism as lords, and ladies focused less and less on defense with in their region. The rise of national armies also diminished this role. In essence, gunpowder contributed to the lack of reliance on the nobility for protection as their stone walls; and the levies used to maintain them, became valueless in a modern war.

Non-emotional? Do you have a problem with firearms or something?

I'm well aware of the effect guns have had on modern combat. Especially if this is actually modern which means automatic weapons, airburst munitions, and perhaps even ET (especially with Silver around).

I don't have a problem so much as recognizing that I'd be more comfortable running away from someone with a knife then a I would someone who has a pistol or crossbow. In essence, ranged weapons in general are more concerning to me as they are harder to escape. Fear is what I meant by emotional; thus I removed the statement explaining this when I should have kept it. My rational concern isn't so much the effect on warfare as it is the effect on society; thus why I stated the decline in monarchy.

Though I do now think about the government provided for Equestria in this RP, and see that it's already shifted into a limited monarchy; and thus that I have no reason to fear violent revolution taking place.

How about no? Guns don't really mess that much up.

Well, somebody hasn't been keeping up with the news :p

Also, perhaps not so much drop it as make their use much more limited. As in, say, they are experimental inventions, not in common use. And of course, it's not just limited to guns.

Even when the people here are not taking as full advantage of it as I fear they would I still think it's a good idea to make rules more explicit in case somebody does break the unspoken practice and abuses the (current) rule.

Actually, I wonder what would happen if they all met? A billionaire CEO, an old times sword maker/totally BA warrior(?), and...I'm afraid I have no idea who Shield is other than the fact he's a...guard?

Also, someone had better quote me in case I get bottom paged.

Silver Shield's not just a guard, he's also essentially Twilight Sparkle's legal counsel.

Silver sword is, yes, an old sword maker. Back in his time when he didn't have the Pony Arthritis he was a BA warrior. And still is.

Ah, I see.

It's not big difference as far as RPing is concerned. A mugger or someone else using a weapon probably won't be inclined to actually shoot to kill, and even if they do, assuming they're using something small (let's be honest, anything larger than a PDW probably is too large for a pony to reliably handle, though pintle mounts would allow for MGs), the damage done will likely be superficial unless it hits the head, neck, or forward torso especially considering how resilient ponies are (Pinkie can survive a rock literally flattenin her FFS).

And I can imagine roughly the same thing with ninja stars and cannon balls, both of which are canon.

Or maybe we can just keep their use sensible? Guns exist in the real world, but how often do you see them? That's how often we should see in the RP, if not even less common as while i won't question concealed carry as physics don't make too much sense in MLP in this, but I would expect far fewer ponies than humans to be packing heat.

So Twilight's right hand stallion? Sounds interesting. So what do you think of an encounter?

I suppose that's fine. But still, why do we insist that guns (should) exist in Equestria in the first place? It's not supported in the show either in fact or in its aesthetic.

There's nothing wrong with more options provided they are properly regulated which you should be doing anyway. You could make me Co-Op too.

No matter, we can arrange something at the Gala. Silver Wing can be there as a regular guest, Silver Sword can be there to peddle fine Japanese tungsten, and Silver Shield will be consulting with Twilight and all that. Have them meet at a bar, perhaps with a bit of a drink first.

I'm wondering the same thing. The closest I can think of in regards to the presence of modern fire arms is the episode Dragon Quest where we see some Vietnam like camo in use;

... in a trench.

I guess I'm a bit more comfortable with the use of firearms being allowed.

It's not pessimistic; I was involved in an RP that was planned to have sequels early in it's activity. That RP became the Of Men and Titans RP series, which developed into the RP group of which I am a member.
