The year is 2016, President Barack Obama has just finished his final term, leaving the Presidency up for grabs. The political climate in Washington is boiling with partisanship and inefficiency; the people of the nation are outraged, but reject calls to militancy and extremism. Congress is split between the Democrats and the Republicans, and even then, allegiances can be blurred. The next President and his Cabinet must be prepared to break all moral codes, without facing retribution from opportunistic enemies. It is up to those who take charge, know their way, and are willing to break any and all rules to save the country, but the question is: what's in it for them?

"Miss Amberwood? I have your weekly reports filed in here," the young blonde says as she hands the files to the newly appointed Secretary of the Interior. Whitney Amberwood loved that title. She took so much glee from it that her ego nearly collapsed in on itself. "Thank you, darling. Please move along now," Amberwood said with a smile.

"Dammit, Peter!" Derek shouted over the phone, "I told you no more politics! Why is it that I have to be the one doing your dirty work in Washington? Why can't you play fair and just use lobbyist like everyone else?!" The phone sat quiet for a moment or two. "Because, Derek," Peter responded in a diplomatic tone, "the Leader of the Democratic Party is much more effective in pushing nuclear friendly legislature than some corporate sellout." Derek's jaw dropped. "What do you mean LEADER?" he sprang out. "I pulled a few strings. Show up in Washington tomorrow. You have a big day," Peter said, before abruptly hanging up.

Edwin Boyd, leader of this little gathering, wore a white suit, complete with a $700 wine bottle shoved into the pocket of it. Secretary of the Treasury Abraham Lincoln Morris sat at his modest desk. While some scoffed at the idea of a newspaper columnist being Treasury Secretary (ignoring the fact that Morris also spent years teaching at Princeton and being an economic adviser to President Obama), Abe Morris proved to be quite competent. A young female assistant entered the room. "Secretary Morris," she said. "Some preliminary numbers are in."

"Thank you, Clarissa," Abraham replied courteously as the woman exited the room. "Unemployment is down, Misery Index is down. Inflation is down. Very nice. None of these changes are a big change, but it's still good news." Abraham put the papers aside, and pulled out a copy of the Wall Street Journal.

"Have you made arrangements in Norfolk?" Alexander asked.

"Yes, sir," an assistant replied. "You've been booked at the convention center, and everything is ready for your announcement on Friday."

"Wonderful, Bob. By next week, I know a lot more people will recognize the name 'Alexander Leidhok'. I can assure you that. For now, I still have legislative duties to attend to."

Jonathan reclined at his desk, reading over the latest reports from various diplomats and ambassadors worldwide. "Any news, Mr. Secretary?" Inquired his assistant, Mrs. Angeline Roffe. Mrs. Roffe was an old woman, her hair grey and white, with a plump build, like your grandma or favourite aunt. She was also a black belt in three different martial arts and had an IQ of 152. "Not much." Answered Jon, allowing his chair to fall forward, sinking into the soft leather. "The French are bitching about something-or-other. The UN is trying to get us to liberalize, a-fucking-gain, and Putin won't give up on his bid to acquire Crimea. In short, they're all conspiring to take ten years off my life every time I read these reports." With a sigh, he set down the thick sheif of paper. "Mrs. Roffe, if you'd be so kind.." The expenses are too high, and we just won't be able to make our promises without the cuts. That is all," she said as she slurped on her diet Coke.

As the Monday began, Majority Whip Alexander Leidhok entered the House and prepared for today's work. While Leidhok's appointment as Majority Whip was surprising, Leidhok held some relatively uncommon political positions, and had just recently been elected to Congress,the Democratic leadership put faith in Alexander, and he was willing to rise to the task. After entering the main chamber, Leidhok sorted through papers as he got ready for his job.

Treasury Department, Washington DC

"Clarissa, is the flight to New York on time?" Treasury Secretary Abraham Morris asked.

"Yes, sir," the assistant replied. "You should have just enough time to get through everything and board your flight to JFK before it departs."

"Excellent. Hopefully the Fed Board of Governors isn't too difficult this time. Ms. Yellen is usually easy to work with, but when she doesn't have her coffee, boy is she crabby!" Both Morris and Clarissa laughed. "Well, I'm off," the Secretary of the Treasury said to his assistant. "I'll see you in a week or so."
