Seriously, that's great! Lovecraft is my favorite writer, even though he hates Eskimos.

You walk trough the short corridor that leads to the machine room with the lamp, the book and the battery in your hands. You are about to turn the metal wheel of the door when you hear something... a strange noise, probably coming from the machine room.
Now what?

A: Turn the wheel and open the door. Then take a look around in the machine room.
B: Shout "Is anyone there?"
C: Back away from the door and visit the reactor instead.
D: - open sloth -

In the end, you decide that it may be a better idea to stay away from the room with the creepy noises...
+1 Caution!

You instead visit the reactor. Everything is quiet in there, so you turn the wheel and go inside.

Image

The room is lit by other standing lamps running on batteries.
In the center of the room is a small fission reactor. There are some tools lying around the reactor core! On the sides of the reactor there are control panels packed with displays and switches. Now what.
A: Inspect the tools and the reactor core
B: Try to do something with the controls on the panels.
C: Go back to the machine room to see if there is still a noise there.

You decide that the reactor can wait and Instead you go back to the machine room door with your tools, empty matchbox, book and lamp... you can still hear the noise, although its perhaps a little more quiet.
So now you decide to:

NOTE! THESE ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS! YOU CAN COME UP WITH ANYTHING!
A: Go back to the reactor
B: Open the door and peek inside.
C: Try knocking on the door.

Okay, I'm going to add "ingenuity points".
We start with one and every time we find a clue from the past, we get +1.
These points can be spent to reveal "Hidden" options. By hidden I mean they are pretty obvious. So obvious that nobody even dares to recommend it perhaps...

Excelent...

Aaaand, you go back to the reactor. On your way to the reactor room you start to feel sick and thirsty. You don't remember when the last time was you drank anything...

Image

Eventually, you get back to the reactor. What's the plan?
A: Inspect the tools and the reactor core
B: Try to do something with the controls on the panels.
C: Go back to the machine room to see if there is still a noise there. B

You take a closer look at the reactor controls. They seem to be pretty cramped. There are 4 panels, 1 for the coolant systems, one for the reactor, one for the generator and one for the computer. It seems as if the computer was still in working order. There is a large lever between the computer's panel and the rest of the panels. A large sign above it says: Manual/Automatic. While you are messing around, you realize that you are standing on papers... Reports, printed out by the reactor's computer. One of them reads:
- Coolant leak detected - Reactor core overheating - Emergency reactor Shutdown initiated -
What would you like to do now?

A: Pull the big lever towards "Manual".
B: Inspect the tools atop the reactor core!
C: Look for other doors in the room.
