If I've seen anything, they've put a Chantry sister named Lily in Mage's Prison despite having no magical ability whatsoever.

Ashanil, the rogue I offered to pick, went through most of the same stuff, but defended Levanel even while enslaved. Like a big sister, rather than a friend. Like what Soren does now. She never got tattoos either. Due to not knowing if Vel had them, I'm not sure how well you follow the story, but it was Ashanil's 18th birthday, the day she was supposed to get her tats, and that was when it all happened.
