No. Later I moved to Black Mountain and we became raiders, we didn't kill people, but we stole because thats what we thought the damn world was, then the Nightkin move in and slaughter the men and women I had learned to call brothers and sisters, those I felt were a new family, killed, ripped, impaled..." Sam started to have bad memories and started shaking but stopped himself. "I know what hell is like, I have had all I know torn from me, even now only four people care for me, and they all may never come back. I am not some little kid who runs around playing conquest and king of the hill here Shepard, I worked for these people even though they have attacked, maimed, threatened and try to kill me all my life. Back in the vault when I was a toddler, there was a revolt, I never met my grandparents and a new Overseer took over. From then on people started getting taken to the Box, I never understood it as a child but it was a torture device in the lower levels, my parents came to my room some nights with scars and bloodstains for a small mistake at work. The nightmares even back then." Sam paused again. "I understand what hell is like. I do. I know what its like to kill. I have had to to survive. I have suffered all my life but still I stand up for the people of the Mojave, because if one day we can work our way up to that crappy standard of living from before the war, with ignorant and self interested people who look out for themselves in a capitalist world, it will be a million times better than this. And if we can do better than that, even making a more community based capitalist society with people looking out for one another, then I will have reached my goal."

The United States was far from perfect but it was a hell lot better than this. Besides, I don't want the US back I want a new one, completely different from that of old, only bringing back old world qualities like politeness, kindness, things that don't exist in this world. I don't want to resurrect jack shit. I want to make something new Shepard. I don't wanna follow some dictator around until a bad one takes over. I wanna pick who rules, I wanna have a choice in what happens I already made this nation far from the US, we have direct elections, absolutely universal civil rights, we have healthcare for those unable to afford or make money for what they need. The US had none of that. We are better than the US because we are open minded. I am willing to kill myself at any moment should it help our movement, I stand for the people, that is my goal Shepard, the goal to have a land of equality, a land of freedom, a land of opportunity, but most of all a land where there is a chance for a bright future. Sam smiled, now interested with Shepard, "If you could give me a holotape with the codex on it, I could work with it to better suit the system of democracy that we have created. Remember, we are not just any form of Democracy we are a Constitutional Administrative Republic, democracy has existed for a long time, but this particular form of government was born when the daybreak movement began, we compared all past forms of government and studied why they eventually fell. One day the Free Republic of Mojave will fall, but eventually so will the Brotherhood. Time just always seems to win. But that's besides the point, if I could get a copy we could find a way to better regulate the whole system while adjusting it for a democratic society." Then he looked at Joshua and said "Look, you do what you want but I will now have to rewrite some plane to secure the border areas. If we could've waited any longer... But wait, why fight the legion now? We could take the NCR! We forced them out of the Mojave already, if we'd just try a little harder and adapt the Black Hand special forces into the government we could defeat them, I'd rather defend than invade right now, we can't throw our money away for the the sake of a republic that can't handle its own money. Hell, Legion Money used to be stronger than the NCR dollar! My point is, Ben, if you can help me get you elected, there may be a way to fix your Californian Republic, but first I will need a little time, if you can stall them from invading us a little longer, perhaps then I will have a perfect plan, it will involve convincing the populace to impeach the president however and exploiting the weaknesses in their form of government, but If we could stain the President's reputation we can get him out of office, replace him with you via election after you succeed to destroy the legion and then you can push some new regulatory laws into place, the NCR might stay stable a bit longer. Would you be willing to do that for the people of the NCR Ben?"
