Sure, We could have the Devils and Demons in a tenuous alliance against the angels and a more chaotic ally (Fae or something). Or it could be a ragnarok style free for all where the factions have finally decided they've had enough of each other? (In which case, we would simply need Angels, Demons and Devils)

Maybe, an episodic series would make sense. Though I was planning for the Mortal plane to be a big battleground for the war, corrupting cities and whatnot. And then in later episodes we could have the Angels come in or something to that effect.

We could keep it to Hell/Abyss (Some of the mortal plane too) for now, having the two factions raid and invade each other, then have a massive invasion of the mortal plane and perhaps bringing the beings there into the whole afair.

Seriously though, find a way to make the characters all lose something dear to the,. Like, make shit actually happen to the poor characters, so that the rp more closely resembles what happens in reality (i.e. shit happens).

The world going to shit may actually be a good thing for the individuals in the rp... It would make the Devils and the Demons even more powerful...
Oh don't worry, We plan to throw everything and the kitchen sink at both sides. Any show of compassion or human kindness would be dangerous for the PCs to say the least.

On the addition of angels, I would suggest that they aren't completely "good." Fights between unambiguously good and evil forces aren't as interesting IMO; I personally prefer all involved parties to have both redeeming and condemning characteristics. Perhaps the angels wish to protect the mortal world as a whole, but don't concern themselves with the lives of individual humans. Perhaps they're less concerned with mortal life and simply want to eradicate the demonic and diabolical forces purely to eliminate any threats to their own society. Just a few suggestions; take them or leave them.
Also, what did you guys have in mind for the afterlife and souls? I personally find that in stories with cosmic beings, it's a fairly prominent issue. Perhaps (and again, this is just a suggestion) the factions could fight to obtain souls to further their own power, or even to increase their numbers.

Fuck, make the angels angelic, so your characters actually can feel some guilt. Yes, I love cutting down the forces of "good".

Indeed, I don't intend for the Devils or the Demons to be completely evil. Some will be kinda evil, but some will have shades of grey to them and interesting backstories.
I just got Diabolus' (Who is working on the angel side of things) plan for them. They also seem to have a superiority complex and some internal struggles.

Of course, Souls of people who have sinned go to either Hell or the Abyss, depending on their crimes. More chaotic crimes of destruction will go to Abyss, and more ordered and premeditated ones go to Hell.
However it isn't quite that simple really. Deities (Who will be left mostly out of the series for a bit) can send people to hell or the Abyss for whatever reason they please, Demons and Devils can drag people down there and both can corrupt people who would ahve been decent, Deals with devils and demons, even if they are for good intentions, lead one to hell and the Abyss.
Absolution and redemption do not save you from Hell or the Abyss either, so one mistake could damn one eternally.
