He can see several possible future's, and he's become very good at being able to pick out the strands to make accurate predictions, he doesn't always act on them and in some cases risk them comming true, it's a very careful line he tends to walk, overuse his abilities and risk making some more dire predictions come true, underuse them and they come true via his inaction.

He has the Sight, but doesn't do a Sybil and add in a whole load of rubbish and overacting, he is also actually aware of his visions opposed to going into a trance, just as Trelawney is related to Cassandra, Cadmus is related to Teiresias, (who given that he turned into a woman at one point is is entirely possible he invented Polyjuice Potion ) They can both lay claim to noble ancestors with a history of the sight.
