My point is why do First years need to learn Philosophy? It's way above the level of a 10 year old and it takes up one of their few free periods.

To teach them right from wrong and make sure they don't use magic for bad. Basically ethics

Third period just began. That's the big thing anyways.

:shrugs: Maybe, but the class is going to be more than just ethics according to Nova. I don't get why people are on about this, it's OP approved, so it's part of the curriculum.

I even say in my post that the first year is pretty much ethics simply because of the fact you need a foundation in that and moral conundrums before you begin studying Philosophy, and given I spent three years of my life studying philosophy and ethics I know full well how intertwined they can be, right and wrong are such slippery concepts after all.

Oh and Reph is kicking up a fuss about this because he didn't get to teach flying, Ethics could be taught in DADA, the Umbridge DADA, the only time I recall ethics being brought up was when they mentioned the unforgivable curses, however after the first year it begins to go into other areas. One vague curriculum idea I came up with for NEWT's was things like Death, Ghosts and the Soul since the last two at least came up a bit and in many cases the latter more than the former admittedly, formed the crux of the story...

That actually sounds pretty cool for the NEWT level.

I feel like love could be a big part of that class. As it is a very powerful magic that no other class really discusses.

And we do have some subject matter from the books, such as it being a conscious choice to become a ghost and the fact that the soul exists and can be damaged ala horcruxes, granted if we go into exhausting detail we'd need to make some assumptions but even then I doubt anybody is going to fret too much about that :P

I have the phrase Emotion's in big capital letters on a piece of paper trying to decide what to do with it, perhaps bundle it in with sacrifice and some bits and pieces about ancient magic of the sort that kept Harry safe, Ironically I have a complete syllabus for Divination for years 3-6 yet I started with PoM first :P

Hmmm, What´s "Games" in the timetable? Read the books in spanish, so not entirely sure what´s that about.
