It wouldn't have that religious divide. I'll explain in a history, but basically massive civil wars that weakened it immensely throughout the 1600/1700s, after which Napoleon strolled in during the beginning of the Napoleonic wars, and the Empire was held together only by the personality of the Emperor at the time, who managed to eventually defeat and drive Napoleon away, restoring the borders of the HRE as closely as possible. The following century and a half would have seen centralizing, conversion efforts, etc, leading to a diminished Catholic tiny-minority and an overwhelming Protestant majority.

Or, if I want, I can just make the POD pre-Luther, and never have Protestantism spread to Germany. *shrugs*
