I'm not sure if I ever mentioned what season it was, it's currently Autumn/Fall. Winter is Coming.

This is where those extra 10,000 could have come in handy, but oh well.

Anyway, the Reach will be at Lancel's mercy . . . and thus the Westerlands at Garlan's.

Westerlands is a lot more defensible; not to mention Casterly Rock was made dragonproof (although that has yet to be tested) so it'll take a long, long time to fall.

If he does that, he's just waiting to come and die. I's all good with that.

You know, for someone with only one of the Seven Kingdoms, a tenuous grip on the capital, a lot of people who don't like you, and has enemies who have mature dragons that were able to destroy white walker armies when they were smaller and younger....

Well, you're awfully cocky, especially when you think about the Volantene fleet with forty thousand-odd pots of wildfire waiting to slag the Red Keep and/or Highgarden (which is conveniently located next to the Mander). And the fact that the Reach's armies will be split between the Reach (which will almost certainly be attacked and potentially face rebellions), and King's Landing, which will be besieged, potentially by an army with three very large dragons, doesn't really help your strategic position.

The way things stand right now, Garlan's basically screwed.

Garlan needs to either protect the capital and the throne (or risk losing a great deal of cachet), or the Reach, his power base. If he loses the capital, he loses the Iron Throne, probably forever, and will get squished between two armies in the Reach, one from Dragonstone and one from Casterly Rock. If he loses the Reach, he's utterly fucked.

Well, actually, he's fucked either way, since Lysis is planning on burning the Red Keep and potentially Highgarden into so much glowing slag and ash.

Oh yeah, forget to mention this. Would anyone mind if it turned out a very elderly Varys was quietly living in Volantis with the triarchs' consent? It's not in any way crucial, I just thought it'd make a nice addition.

HAHAHA, that be true. I guess only Dornishmen can trust they can campaign and not risk any change in their food income, provided it is a rather soft winter.

It's Murphy's Law that whenever a major military campaign vulnerable to the weather is attempted, the weather will be the worst possible for the campaign. See '41 and 1812 for examples.

Garlan is cocky--indeed, he's fully arrogant. However, if we examine the nature of my comment, we will understand it was directed at the reactionary nature of Lancel Lannister--i.e., he is allowed Garlan to come and kill him as necessary. Also, how many sailors do you think are going to willing sail to their deaths? Everyone knows about the Battle of the Blackwater, everyone knows what happens to sailors when there's wildfire in the water.

Also, Garlan wouldn't face the dragons in field combat, and burning King's Landing to the ground would not earn House Crassius any favors.

Well, We've got about 4 possible Baratheons and Steffon. Edric has a son, Gendry may have had children, And then there is Bella, Roberts other daughter, who we know was a prostitute, So there are likely several Baratheon bastards scattered about the world. Steffon needs to find those guys. To kill or to Legitimize, I wonder.

And I could do the exact same by riding into the Reach and setting fire to everything. Especially since winter is coming, which would completely screw you over for that.

Hmm... Chevauchee, away!

Doesn't matter. War takes things off people's minds. Worked for Robb/Cat, it'll work for Baratheons.
