House Seat: Volantis

House's Faith: House Desseros follows many gods, as many people from all over have married into it. Most native-born Volantenes follow red R'hllor, though not especially devotedly. With marital ties to houses in Qarth, Meereen, and Braavos, various members of House Desseros worship various gods.

Military Forces: House Desseros controls a large fleet of around 300 ships, some of which are converted merchant craft. They also have a sizable purely commercial fleet. On land, they can field around 20,000 men, largely slave soldiers. Their forces make up an appreciable chunk of the Volantene military.

Sworn Houses: A number of other lesser Volantene noble houses, and the more powerful Houses Azher and Qhaedar are sworn to House Desseros. Those few Volantene noble houses that are not officially sworn to House Desseros are still under their sway, however.

Events within the House in the 50 years between the OP history and the RP:
Daenerys Targaryen may have smashed the slave trade in Slaver's Bay, but the silver queen never did break Volantis, nor approach it. Volantis has continued in its old ways for the last fifty years, and presently is ruled by the triarchs Lysis Desseros, Raperio Azher, and Thyris Azhad. However, Volantis, due to the end of the slave trade in Slaver's Bay, has, along with Qarth, become a center for that trade and grown even wealthier from the influx of slaves and slavers. The city suffered several slave revolts as the Mother of Dragons continued the reclamation of her empire, one of which came immediately after Daenerys seized the Iron Throne and was led by the widow of the waterfront, but all were eventually crushed. During this time, Lysis Desseros used the instability and fear in the city to vastly increase his House's influence. He has been continuously elected triarch for the last forty-nine years, and has won the love of Volantis's people, even slaves, to whom he has extended a basic charter of rights to help stop abuse. As well as making a number of popular decisions and enacting popular policies, he has shrewdly manipulated the other noble houses of Old Volantis and eliminated his enemies ruthlessly. Volantis remains a wealthy, powerful, and ancient city, and House Desseros's star is still ascendant.

RP Example: One, two, if you need more do say so and I'll find some.

Notes:
House Desseros basically controls much of Volantis, and has been cautious regarding Daenerys while she reigned. While Volantis did not free her slaves, they have been given some rights, and the city has also become friendlier to trade from Westeros and the cities in Essos that the Dragon Queen conquered. Lysis Desseros is often described as "the Tywin of Volantis", for his similarities to the late Tywin Lannister in his political maneuvering. He is still in good health and maintains a firm grip on his House and the city.

Accepted, but I advise you tweak it for Tyrell's sake.

One does not kid about Ser Randyll-Dickon Tarly! :p And I'll lower it to 10,000 mercenaries. We'll say three weeks? They don't need to be levied, after all, but they are all across the Narrow Sea. I'd say a week for the message to arrive, a few days for them to consider, and about a week-and-a-half to cross the Narrow Sea.

Garlan looks forward to supporting the rightful Lords of Riverrun, by the king's own decree.

I did, and read it over. It's a pretty nice application, but I do have one little thing--in my application, I mentioned that Volantis came to Garlan's aid to suppress the Hightower Revolt, since Garlan's mother was a Volantene noble. In return, we granted them 500 merchant ships (see application for explanation).

Do you think Garlan isn't going to employ a food taster? He's going to slip in paranoia in three . . . two . . . one . . .

Just kidding! But really, if something dramatic happens at this stressful time in his life, he'll snap. I'm not joking. I would classify him as mentally unstable.

Lol Sorry....When I wrote that, I meant Cut like from the blade, even a paper cut sized one, Brandon is playing something funny, he doesn't really believe in murder by poisoning, but by putting it on the blade, he would technically get a terrible infection, presumably from the blade, so that Garlan would still die by blade. :p

Just start it... Just not like *invades crownlands* if it's just in river run then go ahead, would take days to reach us anyways

At this point it is pretty safe to assume Garlan will sit on the Throne since day 1 AQD. I am not entirely sure what´s up with the other claimants, but if the Tully already point at certain known claimants, then you could start the Riverrun plot right away.

Give or take. Don't stray too far into day 1. Still a lot of midnight discussions to take place.

I described a raven going to Braavos, but that's a bit of a stretch. The other messages will be by boat, but unless you desire stopping every boat, some are going to get through.

I would think any messages with Essos would have to be by boat, I mean anything with the Iron Bank was in person

Braavos was an exception, due to the exceptional nature of Braavos. If anything, the raven might rest in the Vale (Gulltown) before going to Braavos.

No problem! How many days do you think is realistic for the word of the coup to have reached Riverrun?

Posted events in the 2 AQD mark, however they are not Tyrell or Out-of-Vale-related and I do believe that by that time it is not after news of the coup arrive.

Depends. How long does it take for a raven to reach Riverrun from King's Landing?

Depends. How long does it take for a raven to reach Riverrun from King's Landing?

You may or may not get a raven. Depends if Vardis excepts or not.

That´s to be seen xD

I'm not entirely sure when news about this would reach Volantis....

I mean, they have relatives by marriage in Braavos, so maybe pretty quickly? I'm going to post soon, but I wasn't going to put a specific date on it in DAQD, because I'm not sure when news should reach me, and also because I'm not actually going to be doing much besides having a meeting between the triarchs and having a merchant galley sink.

@Kuhlfros

Ok, I got a few things to say. First, ITS SPELLED MORMONT. THERE IS NO 'U' IN MORMONT. Second, I know Eddard M. is rash, but he isn't stupid. He might have armor with Bear Island symbols on it, but the brigands he is with would certainly not be under the Mormont banner. Third, I'll accept that Rickon knows of the warband, but I doubt the ravens were sent so quickly. Also, the letter sent had no verification, so why would Rickon immediately head out, unless he is just that loyal? Fourth, in order to reduce time, you can have Rickon confront the warband immediately, but he can't recognize Ed M. from across the battlefield, as he hasn't met him recently.

Yeah sorry I didnt think on the banner
Ravens were sent on the day of the first attacks from a nearby village soon to be raided,
thinking on it the Raven may have taken another day but the results are the same
I didn't put any verification on it because it was a quick written letter by some smallfolk, the letter was barely legible, maybe there was a verification but could not be read,
I am going to give Rickon two days marching through the wolfwood before confronting the warband where what I want to do is capture Eddard M and make him into Rickon's Ward, where he can try to fix the Heir...and add some more Arcs in Winterfell

Thanks for not dismissing my concerns out of hand lol... You had better take measures that people don't know Ed M. is Rickon's ward, because those peasant villages might be a bit angry lol

Braavos was an exception, due to the exceptional nature of Braavos. If anything, the raven might rest in the Vale (Gulltown) before going to Braavos.

I still think that Braavos would be a stretch for a bird to fly

and ok... guess I won't get to post anything about Loran. Cool,

EDIT: Also like how Targaryen men at arms are dropping like flies
