The 2016 RP: The World Divided

The year is 2016 and the world seems to only be getting worse as Ukraine continues to suffer from a civil war after Russia annexed the Crimea peninsula and Asia continues to boil down over border tensions while next to them the middle east is on the verge of a new regional war as oil becomes scarce and now it is up to you and your nation to try and not only better yourself but stop are world from entering into a new world war.

Below is the official map of this RP. It shows major powers (with or without players) and nations belonging to players. This map will be updated as often as possible.

Timescale:
In this RP, I will be generally directing the timescale, although you are welcome to help out with that in the game. Because of the nature of the way RPs like this work, a single day can elapse over countless posts, or a single post can advance the timeline by a month. All that is asked is that no-one advance the timeline unreasonably. By this I mean that if two nations are at a conference and are engaging in discussions, some other player can't make a post that takes place a week in the future. That being said, try to keep such conferences to a minimum in order to keep the timeline moving. And be aware of the limitations that exist in communication technologies at this time.

Waging War:
Any conflict that is started must be waged reasonably and realistically. This is - 2016, people! Troops are constantly hampered by the technological limitations of the day, which I will go into more detail about below:

Technology:
Understanding the limitations of your nation's technology is important. Make sure that you play according to that technology.

Know How to Lose:
This is the biggest problem I see in RPs, and I have no doubt that some dummy will cause this issue at some point. In every battle, at every second, every side tries to describe some heroic definitive victory move, a "checkmate" if you will, that causes their army to emerge victorious. This results in an incredibly childish back-and-forth and makes the game un-enjoyable. if you are losing due to decisions made earlier on, then for god's sake lose! Don't try to make up some bullcrap about a single unit of soldiers that manages to survive and win the day, that's not how real war works. Now, I'm not saying that occasionally, in certain circumstances, definitive heroics aren't allowed. If I catch anyone breaking this simple rule of integrity in a major way, there will be one warning, followed by out-the-door.

Meta-Gaming:
This is the last point I need to make. What is meta-gaming? Well, when the British start thinking about negotiating a takeover of Mexico, and suddenly Mexico bolsts it's military numbers way up and is put on high alert, that's meta-gaming: because Mexico couldn't possibly know exactly what the British were thinking. This is unacceptable. Also, you must declare espionage before you commit it, (either on the OOC or IC) you can't just say that you committed espionage and knew the enemy's plans after you had decimated their entire army.

History (Don't blame me if it is unrealistic):

Following German defeat in World War II, the country of Germany was divided into Allied occupation zones. However, at the Potsdam Conference, the cession of territories east of the Oder-Neisse Line was not discussed. In addition to the Soviet Union and Poland not annexing portions of East Prussia, Germany's territorial integrity was not violated and the borders of the Weimar Republic remained intact.

In 1949, the Federal Republic of Germany was created, comprising of the American, British, and French occupation zones in Germany. The Soviets, whose occupation zone had comprised of East Germany and the territories east of the Oder-Neisse, had formed the separate German Democratic Republic. In West Germany, Austria was attached to the West Germans in the hopes of appeasing them from their previous expansionism. The Soviets, seeing that the Polish were devastated even more than the East Germans, and that the East Germans would recover their industrial might in only a short time compared to the Polish, forced them to sign the Breslau Treaty, which restored the 1914 borders of the Germans. Czechoslovakia in the 1960s grew more and more tolerant of Capitalism and even attempted Liberalization, but Moscow would not have it. They sent 10,000 Soviet troops and ordered 200,000 East German forces to crush the Liberal Czechoslovaks. In order to fix the problem, Moscow devised a plan that would make East Germany stronger in the face of the West while getting rid of a troublesome nation. They annexed the Czechs. Later, in the 1970s, France was falling to Marxist influence. Their Government had numerous Communists and called for action against the West. Finally, in 1978, they invaded West Germany. The campaign was short but the French failed horribly. Alsace-Lorraine was taken away from them, alongside numerous other territories and small reparations. Then there was peace until October 27th, 1985. A group of protesters calling for civil liberties in East Germany were gunned down by the military, sparking riots across the nation.

Repressed peoples from across the country began attempting to flee to West Germany, most of them being gunned down and shot. Riots began escalating as news traveled mostly by word of mouth to other parts of the country, with the populace rising up against the government. As the East German government lost control of the countryside to rebels, the protesters demanded the resignation of the Chairman of the State Council, who was not in the country, but in the Soviet Union during the protests. Despite calls for peace by both West Germany and the Soviet Union, the Revolutionaries seized control of the government by March 23rd, 1986, which reunified the countries by June 1986. From then on, the government had been focused on the complete revitalization of East Germany, transforming it from a socialist nation to capitalist states.

From the late 1980s to 2016, Germany hasn't been doing anything really significant, only buying North Schleswig from Denmark after their economy faltered.

Seeing as this is mostly Realistic, can I change history up to the 1990's? I was thinking that way almost everything important happened so people still have a main idea. Regardless though should we add a history section or a more in depth application [say has a section for history, economy, culture descriptions] for alternate countries, so that people know more about those nations? Example being Germany right now so people know how history changed, especially Germany and the EU being important in RL.
