Back from seeing Sweeny Todd, pretty funny and quite a bit more dark, but I liked it.

Got bitched at by my Choir director (For not wearing a tie under my Russian Officer's jacket and apparently not having dress shoes), so the day started off shittily, and I might drop choir (Even if she's retiring this year after 30 years of teaching).

And it can only get worse because I need to go to work!

See you all later.

I have no respect for choir.

Really, after being in drama/chorus class for most of highschool, I've developed the view that those classes are pointless, and so I never cared to contribute in any meaningful way, much like the 98% of highschoolers.

Encouraging.

As someone whose own choir is, not to be arrogant, widely considered as one of the best in the state and has had to deal with and collaborate with many different schools across the state, I can safely tell you that choir/chorus is not an experience that remains the same across all institutes. If you don't have the right director, or dedicated kids, or proper practice methods, or you keep picking inappropriate or easy music, it will be the shittiest experience of your life. Choir can serve you a great deal in life, but only when done right, and it is easy to fuck up.

The reason many choirs and choruses in high school suck peanut balls is because most high schools frequently shove those classes into "fluff" territory--they're not taken seriously, they exist to rack up your credits and give background music to a Christmas gathering, nothing more. They sing the most uncomplicated cartoon jingles and diddies, centered around looking "nice" instead of presenting the students with a challenge. In those cases, yes, the choir will be pointless. But if your director has any semblance of intelligence in real music and etiquette, it will be far from it. I have an amazing director who kicks our asses everyday and never stoops to cheesiness or fluff, and I have often left my practices and performances physically and emotionally exhausted. We don't sing "Jesus Loves the Little Children," we sing the Fauré Requiem. We have the philosophy that singing should be about the euphoric experience of overcoming challenge through teamwork, and the spiritual feeling of beauty in unity, NOT solely to entertain grandparents at sandwich parties.

And it has paid off. We have performed at various sites in Washington D.C., performed the national anthem four times at Brewers Stadium, are currently on our way to flying to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall, and I shit you not, were once invited to perform at the Pantheon in Rome--we didn't go there because the field trip would be beyond what we were capable of affording. This is the power of a teacher who knows what they're doing, and kids who give a shit.

I don't know what kind of group you were in or what it's methods were, but I do know that choir will never, ever solely be what you find at your own singular school. It varies, greatly.

Huh, sounds like where Mrs. Slobo went to high school: nationally-ranked band, choir, and orchestra. One guy in her class now plays for one of the top-tier US orchestras.

I was in Theatre last semester. It was full of potheads and lazy dicks wanting an easy English credit, and as such it wasn't a very interesting class because the performances were more robotic than Ben Stein could ever dream of.

... Not mine, of course, but it really sucks the passion out of what you're performing when everyone puts zero effort into their performance.

When it comes to the arts in any form, you get out what you put in, no more no less. Our theatre group is great too, though the theatre also holds a lot of kids from choir. My school isn't a fancy private school or anything, but our arts programs are fairly excelled.

It's not technically a one-shot. Rather, it's posts cobbled together from an old, hyper-inflated, beer-and-pizza RP.

Meanwhile, in the Pax chapel...

*thwack!*

The construct impacted Ocho's back like a half ton of bricks. She began to climb him, sharp talons tearing at his shirt and skin as she scrabbled towards the thade's head.

Get it off! Get it off! Ocho spun in circles as the nasty little lizard dug her claws into the flesh covering his spine.

"Gimme Gimme Gimme!" the green menace thrust her arm past his left ear and grabbed for the box clasped in his ugly old hands. The claws futilely lashed out and caught only air and then, in frustration, she opened her mouth and sunk her teeth into his shoulder - hard - because love nibbles were reserved for nice people that didn't withhold things.

Ocho screamed and slammed his body to the left to crush her against the bulkhead. He repeated the process several times, each connection rippling his fat to further damage her upon impact.

"Noooooo!"

*SLAM*

"No is mi-"

*SLAM*

"-iiiinnnne!"

*SLAM*

"Miiiiii-"

*SLAM*

"-iiinnnne!"

Nila couldn't do much else but regenerate after each bone-crushing slap, but she refused to give in despite the stars dotting her vision. She began to go limp after a few more blows.

Ocho swayed on the spot. A heavy hand wrapped around her neck. He rose to his full height and tore her from his flesh until she was suspended in front of him. "You are an annoying shit! It isn't yours!" his roar revealed black gums and every last tooth in his head.

"Rah!" The construct's foot lifted and kicked out, hitting his belly and sliding downward. Toes detected something more pliable than thade skin.

*schick*

Out came the nails and then the ankle rotated to allow her to grab a hold - tightly - because fondling was reserved for nice people that didn't crush constructs against bulkheads.

Ocho's mouth opened again, but every last tooth in his head seemed to be the came color as the blanched gums holding them in place. The inward sucking of air hardly counted as a scream. That sound came moments later, rendered into a high pitched shriek and accompanied by a sudden rush of tears. Secondary arms involuntarily shot downward to cup his offended family line. Upper limbs released the construct to follow suit. The deck kissed Ocho's kneecaps. His weight rolled him forwards, his balance neglected by an inner ear tuned out by his agony-riddled mind. He coiled into a fetal position and felt himself slipping away. Nausea clutched his innards and then his brain checked out completely.

Nila flicked her nail and flinched as he crashed to the deck. "Hnna." Serves him right for withholding.

She waited a few heartbeats before pushing his bulk onto his back to retrieve the box squashed under him. Her feet perched atop his ample belly, slowly sinking down into the flesh as his muscles went lax. Her hands frantically worked the package wrapping and soon paper littered the half-conscious thade. Her nails pried the lid off and then she thrust her snout into the box.

"Mmmmm nom nom nom," she groaned as the crunchy stuff yielded to her teeth.

And then she stopped chewing. Her eyes widened.

"Bleeeeeh," she opened her mouth and pushed the dreadful tasting mush out with her tongue, allowing it to fall in saliva-captured strands where it pooled on her unconscious cyborg perch.

The construct did what all proper constructs do in such a situation - she placed the box on his chest and then went through his pockets for loose change and tools before leaving him to reconsider the benefits of sharing.

Gio's right. You get what you put in to it.

Please remember that the experience you people had is not the same as the rest of us. We look back upon (or currently at) the courses we took and the friendships forged within them, and we see it as something priceless. Implying that all chorus or theatre groups are crap is imply that we are crap. When it comes to individual schools, your mileage may vary.

Certainly not saying your guys stuff is crap. Mine definitely is. I'm in the inner-city ghetto school so there's not much in the way of anything good coming out of it.

Figures all my friends ended up going to the only decent high school in town.

Well, your choir sounds fine and dandy.

Our drama/choir teacher just walks in late and goes into their office, leaving everyone alone with absolutely NOTHING to do. No music, no acting, nothing. All they do is chat about literary tryouts (which is actually singing, not literature) and ONLY does any sort of activity whatsoever in private with the three teacher's pets. We only do one play a year, and it's usually one of the same three, overdone plays over and over again, cut down to be easy. I signed up not to act even, but to work on the sets and wiring, but of course even that isn't useful. Sixty plus people, told to go home and let the artists and actors make their own sets.

And this is considered a good department in Georgia. I went from loving that stuff as a freshman, to despising it as a senior. Seriously, I told them and the actors to shove it up their pretentious asses when they asked why nobody else wanted to support them. I really don't like anyone who support our art department, especially Choir and Drama.

I got much more experience and fun from FFA and Mechanics.

Meh, I'll clarify. I didn't want to get too far ahead with Wren. She had spoken to Mezran to introduce Thriller to him.
