Way, way older than Gio. Hofstadter talks about it Gödel, Escher, Bach, and he's drawing on older sources. But what the hell, level-crossing and such like is good clean fun. I remember there was some guy named Nolan who made some movie about stories in stories or something like that, and a minor playwright who tried something similar to catch the conscience of a king. And if they can do it, so can we. /nods

You should read Gödel, Escher, Bach, BTW. It may not change your life or expand your mind, but it is a good read even if it doesn't.

See, I walked away from this crash with not even a scratch and with the car still being able to run. There's a chunk of frozen dirt sticking out of the broken up grill, a nasty dent, and the hood's just a tad lifted, but no it still runs great all things considered. This could've ended a lot worse. See, my dad wasn't thinking about that though. Dad was seven different shades of pissed when he came by after I called him. Told me I was going to be the one paying the insurance deductible. Then, he even went so far as to tell me, and I quote "You've got to accept the fact that you fucked up and that this is your fault" added to the usual "Get yer head out of yer ass!" bit he tells me all the time whenever things fuck up around me. This is coming form him, who had his truck stuck in a drift for three days in a row, and he's telling me that it's my fault? So it's my fault the road was snowy and slick, causing me to lose control and spin into a ditch that has had so many other people spin out into? Oh no, yeah, totally.

See, I walked away from this crash with not even a scratch and with the car still being able to run. There's a chunk of frozen dirt sticking out of the broken up grill, a nasty dent, and the hood's just a tad lifted, but no it still runs great all things considered. This could've ended a lot worse.

Yeah, that's not so bad. The bodywork will probably be a bit expensive to fix, but I've done worse to my car.
