Nah, fuck DnD. 13th Age is where it's at. (It helps my case that its two lead writers were lead writers for DnD 3rd and 4th edition and were dissatisfied with how numbers-only the game had become.)

I am a little disappointed with 4e.
Which is why I play Pathfinder now, a sort of 3.5e if you will. It's got its own lore with new monsters and classes.

I haven't played D&D yet, but my friend had me create a character sheet just in case. We were gonna have a weekend for it, but he got sick. I'm still waiting to play my Dragonkind pirate with multiple javelins.

13th age is a lot more lenient in terms of gameplay than DnD. Your character can have several "backgrounds", elements of their identity that can be used to make skill checks. There are a few underlying rules for the DM, namely: 1. Failing a skill check doesn't mean nothing happens, it just means that the intended result doesn't exactly happen the way everyone thought it would and 2. If it's cool enough and the players are excited for it, let it happen. It's much more focused on building an interesting story than it is on pure numbers. There's no grid, for instance, and "nearby" isn't a set distance but instead, well, nearby.

Demonic baby. Now I'm imagining someone doing a black ops raid while wearing one of those baby slings across their chest. (Because you know that literally nobody back at base could be trusted with a child)

Oh, thats just because the 2013 game doesn't have the addictive substance that coats the cards, impairing rational judgement so you can buy more cards. :p
All kidding aside, the games are quite decent, though no where as satisfying as winning with a deck you built yourself...
I think one may play better with them as the pre-made decks are tried and tested to be reliable, or at least most of them.

As for D&D, It's quite fun. Even 4e can have some good moments, even if it is a little too mechanical.
Pathfinder is more organic and role-play conducive, I think people who like NS will prefer Pathfinder and 3.0.

Oh, that happens in DnD too. As a DM if I really want to, I can fudge results for the players to either do badly or well, depending on whether it will help the story.
I think the rules and mechanics do provide a good backbone, but too many mechanics start to constrict roleplay. Pathfinder is the perfect mix for me.
I may try 13th age, though it seems their playing it a little too lose and fast for me.

There are certainly plenty of mechanics as backbone, the creators have done this before. It's just a cool world with cool history and cool gameplay. I have trouble playing it because the one good online tabletop I found didn't run on the school computers my friends and I tried to use it with.

Oh, I made a mistake, technically Pathfinder is a 3.75 and the last version is 3.5. Which was a moronic mistake for me to make seeing as I've played D&D for four to five years... :palm:

DID SOMEONE SAY DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS?

More seriously, I still need to play a P&P game. Every time I join a P&P game it gets cancelled for odd reasons, like everyone suddenly not being interested anymore (even though they don't know I'm joining) or something else happens inabling me from playing. It's like a curse or somethin', man! The closest thing to a P&P I've gotten to play in is one of the three RPs I'm signed up for here on NS. I think it actually counts, due to the OP determining actions with rolls and so on.

I swear to Christ if Jackie is the lucky fellow to answer, I wouldn't know what to respond with. "Glory unto Caesar! *slam*" "Have YOU heard of Lucen?" "Have YOU heard of The Grand Machine, that which we are all a cog of?" "*yells over at Karlson* MOM, THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES ARE HERE"

I always held the names of demons and angels in high regard. In my small amount of the knowledge of exorcism, if you discover the name of a demon, you can banish it. I don't know if that would work in regards to angels, but then again my knowledge comes from 'Supernatural' and assorted horror movies. For all I care, Hansel could be his name to Ira Dei to work in conjunction with 'Gretel', but not his actual angel name.

Doesn't matter. If he goes by that name long enough that it's a part of his identity, then it's part of his real name. Not all of it, but part of it. Your name is whatever you ask people to call you.
