Illan; it's very simple,a faction allows me to build my own private buildings on their planet(s). In exchange they can have access to my buildings perks like say 10% of construction time.Another example If you don't have a shipyard you can pay a small fee to use my shipyard to build your own ships. It's a way to help faction progress while I make tons of money!

Pretty much when it comes to ME, the weaponry and tech is constant between one another with some variances here and there, I think one race has some sort of energy weaponry but that is about it.
