ATL Music:

Song: Eurasia
Album: Reise, Reise
Band: Rammstein
Released: 2004
(from Wikipedia)
"Eurasia" is a song performed by the German insustrial metal band Rammstein. It was released in 2004, and is the second single from the album Reise, Reise. The song, sung partially in German and partially in English, deals with the global influence of the Eurasian Union, even in areas that have poor relations with the EAU, and is viewed by the band as a satirical take on Eurasianization. The song's music video features the members of the band dressed in spacesuits labelled with the names of famous EAU astronauts aboard what is supposed to be the Eurasian Space Agency's Fraternity space station, intercut with footage of Native Americans, African tribesmen, and Oceanian aborigines. The song had high peak positions of several European charts; 2 in Germany and Denmark, 3 in Hungary, 4 in the Low Countries, 5 in Poland, 10 in Finland, 13 in Norway, 21 in Sweden, 33 in Russia, 38 in the UK, and 49 in France. It also peaked at 22 in Japan, 40 in the CS, 44 in Canada, 66 in Australia, and 78 in China.

We're all living in Eurasia,

Wenn getanzt wird, will ich führen,
auch wenn ihr euch alleine dreht,
lasst euch ein wenig kontrollieren,
Ich zeige euch wie's richtig geht.
Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen,
Brüderlichkeit spielt auf die Geigen,
Musik kommt aus die Kreml-Türme,
und sogar Berlin sieht Kreis und Kreuz.

We're all living in Eurasia...

We're all living in Eurasia,
Eurasia, it's wunderbar.
We're all living in Eurasia,
Eurasia, Eurasia!

Ich kenne Schritte, die sehr nützen,
und werde euch vor Fehltritt schützen,
und wer nicht tanzen will am Schluss,
weiß noch nicht, dass er tanzen muss!
Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen,
ich werde Euch die Richtung zeigen,
Diplomaten gehen nach Prag,
und sogar Berlin sieht Kreis und Kreuz.

We're all living in Eurasia,

When I'm dancing, I want to lead,
even if you all are spinning alone,
let's exercise a little control.
I'll show you how it's done right.
We form a nice round shape,
fraternity is playing on the violins,
music is coming out of the Kremlin's towers,
and even Berlin sees the circle and cross.

We're all living in Eurasia...

We're all living in Eurasia,
Eurasia, it's wonderful.
We're all living in Eurasia,
Eurasia, Eurasia!

I know steps that are very useful,
and I'll protect you from missteps,
and anyone who doesn't want to dance in the end,
just doesn't know that he has to dance!
We form a nice round shape,
I'll show you the right direction,
the diplomats head to Prague,
and even Berlin sees the circle and cross.

We're all living in Eurasia,

So he would be the oldest by far.

Shrill is in fact 26, and still hasn't gone to college because he's poor and refuses to get mired in inescapable student loan debt.

As for the peace, Vak, Britain is still at war with France because I could not find time to send Salisbury over. I can't hardly find time to post now.

For the OOC record though, keep in mind that I planned to have Britain attend, but my somewhat hap-hazard schedule and work requirements can make finding the time to post difficult. Still, Salisbury will be removed in April after he loses a censure vote over Belize.

So is Britain still at war with France, and if so what should I be concerned about in terms of troop movements and such?

I'm not sure myself. Britain had already sent a letter saying they would go to Utrecht, but I found it impossible to make the time to actually post. When everyone else has Sunday off, I can't even get on the computer. But Britain has already called a cease fire in the regions of Normandy and Brittany concerned and in Senegal. So, there's nothing to worry about there, especially since the African armies will soon be moving east to Nigeria.

And BTW, Canada isn't furious. On the contrary, it's from this that Cleveland will publish the 14 Points.

8888 Uprising

Date: August 1-8, 1988
Location: Arunachal Pradesh
Also called: Saffron Revolution

The 8888 Uprising was a revolution against General Chikar Kopak's regime that ruled Arunachal Pradesh from 1974 to 1988 after he took power in a coup that deposed Prime Minister Lobsang Wangchuk (s. 1972-1974) and forced him and most of the previous government to flee into exile in Cona, just across the border in the Tibetan Autonomous Community in China.

The main center of the uprising was the former capital of the country, Tawang (from 1974-88, Itanagar, the largest city and close to India was the official capital), which was majority-Buddhist compared to Itanagar where it was majority-Hindu.

Background

In 1973, Captain Chikar Kopak, a Hindu from the Galo tribe criticized the dominance of the Buddhists in Arunachal Pradesh: all six Prime Ministers were of Buddhist origin, and Tawang had a Buddhist majority (Arunachal Pradesh had a Buddhist plurality in the 1941 census but no full censuses were taken since the composition of Parliament was allocated by religion, with the Parliament having 48 Buddhists, 41 Hindus and 10 Anglicans, as well as 3 for "tribals" from 1948 until the coup, resulting in 102 seats).

Despite the fact that the Prime Minister was a traditionally a Buddhist, the Governor-General an Anglican, and the Speaker a Hindu, Buddhists were generally significantly richer than Hindus, despite being one of the "Asian Tigers" and sharing similar standards to Kyrgyzstan at the time, and Chikar Kopak felt that the Parliamentary system was too dominated by Buddhists.

Thus, on August 15, 1974 from Itanagar, Captain Kopak and some of his colleagues decided to lead the coup against Lobsang Wangchuk. At 2 pm that day, after a helicopter flight to Tawang, they stormed the Parliamentary building and the Governor's Palace to take over control. Later that day, TV stations were taken over and Chikar Kopak declared the abolition of the Kingdom of Arunachal Pradesh and the formation of a Republic under the provisional control of the "National Committee for Equalization." Hindi became the only official langauge while English and Chinese were stripped: Chinese in particular was banned.

As a result, virtually the entire former government fled to Cona in Tibet, allowing Chikar Kopak to take power. He suspended the constitution and imposed martial law, enabling him to rule as dictator. On August 20, he promoted himself to General, and ordered the Arunachali rupee to exit the yuan area and his country to leave the Chinese Commonwealth (which already recognized the government-in-exile in Cona), as well as relocating the capital to Itanagar, closer to India than Tawang, which close to China.

During his time in power, he mismanaged the economy, and completely trashed it (he outlawed skiiing and snowboarding in 1975, he nationalized the banks) as well as imposing discriminatory laws against Buddhists (monasteries were ordered shut down or converted into Hindu temples). As a result, Dorjee Khandu was arrested on the streets in 1975 for praying in a back alley in Tawang: after a protest that was ruthlessly suppressed demanding his release, he was forced under house arrest.

By 1987, the country which was once the richest in Southern Asia had became the poorest country, and was wracked with sanctions. That same year, Chikar Kopak declared himself Chief Minister of the State of Arunachal Pradesh, and a fraudulent referendum was held on whether to join India. Officially 99% voted to join India, but the voting roll was only 1.1 million: the turnout was actually 5.3 million out of a population of 2.035 million (1986 estimates), or 260% of the population voting. Actual results were 78% voting for keeping their independence.

International pressure resulted in India refusing to admit Arunachal Pradesh a state in India. By 1988, many people had enough with Chikar Kopak. The economy was shattered (not helped by the redenominations based on Kopak's favorite number for the currencies several times between 1986 and 1988, then reverting without warning the people or providing any compensation for last value in July 1988).

The protests

On August 1, 1988, a small crowd of 500 protesters gathered in front of the Tawang Monastery, demanding compensation for the reversion of the values. Throughout the day, thousands of people joined until by sunset, about a quarter of the city's population turned out. The subject of the protests changed, to demanding the release of Dorjee Khandu and the resignation of General Kopak and trying him for crimes against humanity.

The next day, General Chikar Kopak received the news and ordered troops to try and quell the protests. When they arrived, many troops deserted and sided with the protesters, but 52 people were killed by loyalist troops.

On August 3, the Tawang Police Department formally declared that "they will support the protesters and will protect them from the Arunachali National Army." As a result, Chikar Kopak responded by firing the police chief and appointing his cousin as police chief in Tawang, but none of the officers accepted the decision. When he got to Tawang, he was arrested by the Tawang Police Department.

On the fourth day of the protests, about 2/3rds of the city attended. General Kopak sent a request to India demanding intervention in Arunachal Pradesh, but when China heard, they threatened that if India were to do it, China would liberate Arunachal Pradesh and bring back the Cona government. Combined with pressure from London, India refused to support Kopak's regime.

The next day, protests began in Itanagar, and later that day, about a tenth of the city protested, but the military there was loyal to Kopak. As the day closed, a massacre kills 148 people, and many lower officers begin planning a coup d'etat against General Chikar Kopak.

On August 6, many of Kopak's advisors flee to Calcutta, after Kopak announced should the regime fall to "Chinese agents," he will set up a government-in-exile in Calcutta to lead the "resistance," but many of them opposed Chikar Kopak's stances. The protests were suppressed in Itanagar, but in Tawang, the junior officers plotted their coup.

The very next day, saffron banners began appearing in Tawang, and during the day, many towns opposed to Chikar Kopak flew the saffron flags. At 11:00 pm, Saturday in the Park was played on Itanagar Radio, signalling the intention to start executing the coup.

On August 8, at 1:30 am, the next song was played on Tawang Radio, the "National Banner Song," the anthem of China. It signified that they are to take control of strategic areas (i.e. Tawang and the Sela Pass), and that only violent repression could stop the revolution.

Despite urges from the "guardians of August" to not go outside, many people joined in the march to Tawang, and assisting soldiers. By sunrise, Itanagar was the only area under the control of Chikar Kopak, but when he ordered his loyalist troops to fight, the loyalists switched sides, and the revolutionaries gradually created a "keyhole" of loyalist areas and a road (and rail link) to India surrounded by the Saffronists control.

Finally, at noon, New Delhi time (12:30 pm local time), Chikar Kopak announced his resignation as Chief Minister, and then fled to India. The revolutionaries would on August 10, release Dorjee Khandu, ending his political imprisonment after 14 years.

Reaction and Impact

Under the rule of Officer Lobsang Yama, he reintroduced civil rights and most political rights, as well as reinstating the Constitution for the time being until a "new constitution" can be passed, but it remained under military rule. All the decrees of Kopak were repealed by August 11, the capital was returned to Tawang on August 28th, and all religions on Sept. 1 were given all their rights, with the converted Hindu temples being returned to their original owners. By October, the Cona government-in-exile returned to Tawang and transferred authority.

After a constitutional convention in 1989 that significantly amended the original constitution, notably abolishing the confessionalism system.

The 1990 elections saw the election of Dorjee Khandu as the first PM under a non-confessional system, and the first once since 1972. In his home riding, he won by acclamation, and following his inauguration, the SPDC disbanded. Dorjee Khandu would help rebuild the economy and the 1990s saw a phenomenal growth of income and GDP, resulting in them eclipsing their 1973 levels by 1996, though living standards are not as high as they used to be. He retired in 2005, and Khandu died in 2011 in a helicopter crash at the age of 56.

Chikar Kopak fled to Bangalore, where in 1989, he was captured by British agents and tried in London for crimes against humanity. He was sentenced to house arrest due to his health in Along (where he was born), and died in 1997 at the age of 61.

Today, Chikar Kopak is universally hated in Arunachal Pradesh and is consistently listed as the "worst leader of Arunachal Pradesh," as well as in China who recognized the government-in-exile the entire time.

Yes, I totally just stole the Geneva Conventions from Switzerland and made them the New Orleans Conventions(in OoC reference, and maybe IC, to the fact that Jefferson Davis met Alexander of Japan there).

It's all right, I stole several of the 14 points. I thought about including the one on worldwide disarmament, but it's probably better to bring up at the peace conference.

Lima is Ciudad de la Fortuna. Maritza renamed the city after being exonerated of being a usurper by the High Assembly, and declared it the new capital, as it has better development potential than anywhere else in South America. ^^

Edited. And, for simplicity, a list of cities on this list with different names ATL and OTL:
Lima- Ciudad de la Fortuna
Guadalajara- Wadi al-Hijara
Baku- Bako

Worth noting that the bids made by Arabia(Doha and Dubai) and the Confederacy(Los Angeles, San Diego, and Tijuana) are joint bids, meaning that all cities involved would officially host the Olympics, with the facilities spread between them.

Also, all of the bids are based on RL bids for the 2024 games.

Fun fact: China views Kashmir, Nepal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh as buffer states with India: the last one was actually only really created because Chinese pressure (either unite or get absorbed by India), and they did that because a powerful India would upset the balance that existed (in 1947) with Japan and China being the main superpowers in the region. Too bad India will likely upset the balance in Asia soon...

I've wondered about having Japan try to buy Gujarat from Britain, and then refuse to let it federate into India come 1947. XD

I'm thinking of getting Portuguese India back. Problem is that I don't have a sovereign way stop on the way to Portuguese India since Uni took Angola and Mozambique... :P

GTFO FROM ASIA BOLUDO. If Portugal tries to return to India (Goa), which has been British since the end of the war, I will have Japan sack the port and annex it. -.-

And if London gives blessing to a reclamation, Japan will have cross words for them.

IIRC, I thought the Seychelles were British.

Hmm.

I think Kyakhta-Altanbulag would probably be the OTL San Diego-Tijuana (but without much of the poverty) of the Orient, with it being the largest port of entry being China and a non-AU nation, and probably Russia. Thus, Altanbulag could be actually more prominent in the global city scale compared to Ulan Bator, Hohhot or Karakorum (Karakorum is the executive and administrative capital, Ulan-Bator the judicial and legislative capital).

Altanbulag would not have a million though, only about 225,000 people.

I never said that Asia for Asians didn't mean subservience to Japan or China. We just want Europeans to GTFO.

Smaller states are almost always leaning towards or in the sphere of another country, OTL and ATL. A "Europe out of Asia" policy(no matter how riddled with exceptions) means that European colonies would be released and sphered nations of European countries released. By simple geographic proximity, they would either wind up in the territory or sphere of control of China(like ATL Tibet, Turkestan, Central Asia, and Mongolia) or Japan(like ATL Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indochina, and Thailand). It's happening in Europe and the Americas too; the Slavic sphere(before the 1990s divided into the Russian, Ukrainian, and Yugoslav spheres), German sphere, Dutch sphere, British sphere, communist sphere, Confederate sphere, Tawantisuyu sphere. "Europe out of Asia", because it puts that land up for grabs by Japan, seems of dubious legitimacy. Akin to Canada's "CSA out of the Three Mexican States" or even the EAU's "Germany out of Central Europe". There may be legitimate humanitarian reasons for saying it, but is that really why you're saying it?
