Check the map. I made a small separate bengali state (NPC) that you are invading.

Economy: The economy of Hellan is growing due to industrialization and trade. The industrial revolution and the recent inclusion of Free Market policies have allowed for rapid economic growth. Free Market policies have been welcomed in Hellan, and as a result private enterprise has soared, allowing for the introduction of big business. Mass production has also rapidly changed the nation, allowing for more valuable items to be produced quicker.

Infrastructure: Very Developed. Due to being an old nation, Hellan is also very urban. A network of roads connects most cities. A series of ferries exists between the numerous islands under Hellanic control, making quick travel between them easy.

Army: Not as numerous or forceful as other nations, but very well trained. Most of the army's bulk was lost in the Around 78,000 men.

Navy: The navy is much stronger than the army, as Hellan has a long naval history. Around 50 ships in the navy.

1792- The United Kingdom of Hellan is founded.
1800- The ideas of Democracy finally spread to the Hellanic mainland.
1812- A (bloodless)Coup d'état occurs, and the monarchy is abolished.
1813- The first elections are held in Hellan, and the first President is sworn into office.
1830-1850- Hellan, despite general optimism within the nation, experiences a period of economic turbulence. In 1849, Hellan falls into recession.
1850- Hellanic South Europe gains independence, limiting the homeland to solely Hellan.
1872- Industrialization brings new technologies into the nation. And with it came new jobs, improving economic conditions.
1900-Present day- Seeing the success of the independent nations, the regions of Western Anatolia and Southern Hellan continually petition the government for independence, and are rapidly growing impatient...

Repost of my application.

Nation Name: Byzantine Socialist Republic / Byzantium / BSR

Symbols: Flag: http://i.imgur.com/3h9IcgI.jpg?1. Coat of arms features a Double-Headed Eagle (like the one on the flag) surrounded by 10 red-outlined yellow stars, with a hammer and sickle within the eagle (I'll try to get a picture of it later). The 10 stars represent Byzantium's 10 provinces, and the hammer and sickle represents communism. The Double-headed eagle is a symbol of bravery and fierceness, used by the Byzantine monarchy for hundreds of years. It was one of the few symbols of the monarchy that wasn't discarded after the revolution.

Population-homeland: 128,000,000
Population-colonial: 0

Location/Claims: Turkey, Caucasus, Greece. Parts of Egypt, Arabia
In Orange:http://i.imgur.com/qF1UnUp.png

Capital City: Ephesos (pop. 983,000)

Government Type: Marxist-Leninist single-party state,
Ideology: Marxism-Leninism, Castroism (Or the AH equivalent of it), Revolutionary Socialism.
Leader/s: Head of State: Pulcheria Anthemius
Head of Government: Plutarch Exopolis

Economy: $128 billion. Growing quickly due to rapid modernization and industrialisation following the fall of the monarchy. The Byzantine economy relies heavily on water resources. Massive fishing fleets haul in tonnes of fish, crustaceans and whales everyday. Massive processing plants employ thousands of workers. Byzantium is a center of international trade, with the Suez canal forming a vital link between the Mediterranean and the Indian ocean. Development of extensive natural gas resources began in the 1880's, but development is still slow. Agriculture is another important element of the Byzantine Economy. Massive grain fields line the banks of the Nile river, while Greece is a major source of luxury resources, such as wine and olive oil. Rock salt has been mined in Byzantium for centuries, and along with Limestone and gold, makes up most of the mining sector. There are also vast, unexploited oil reserves in the Caucasus.

Infrastructure: Fairly advanced. A fairly well-maintained road network connects most towns and major cities, though many villages (especially in the mountainous areas) are left isolated. Work has commenced on a rail network to connect the major cities of Ephesos, Smyma and Pergamon

Army: an army with a standing force of 173,000, and 145,000 in reserve. Equipped with weaponry and equipment leftover from the monarchy, typical of 1914. A massive modernization and procurement program is currently underway. An air arm that had been in its infancy before the revolution is currently in development.

Navy: Similar to the army, consists of 34 outdated ships that had been rusting in harbors for years before the revolution. A modernization program is currently underway as well.

Goals:
-To modernize, and increase living standards throughout the country through the implementation of welfare and healthcare systems.
-To become the dominant military power in the region.
-To combat imperialism and capitalism and unite the nations of the world under the red flag.

History: The area that is now Byzantium had been inhabited by Turkic, Macedonian, and Arab tribes for thousands of years before the first advanced civilizations arose in Greece and Egypt around 4000 BCE. These groups would remain fairly isolated until the Kingdom of Byzantium emerged in 25 BCE. The first King was Alexios I, under his rule, the kingdom assimilated many civilizations that inhabited the eastern Mediterranean. The Alexios dynasty would rule The Kingdom for nearly 400 years. In 368 CE King Coriolanus III was assassinated, and replaced by Portia I, a local Duchess. Portia's rule, and that of her successors was exemplified by militarism, harsh taxation, overzealous religious law, and frequent use of the death penalty and horrible methods of torture. The Kingdom, which had been transformed into an empire by 920 CE, would remain under oppressive rule by several dynasties Until 1850, when it became clear the Empire was falling apart. Strict marshal law was put in place after various tribal uprisings in the north and west had overthrown their local Barons, and many frontier provinces were lost to barbarians. By 1892, the communist movement had gained significant support. And by 1904 a brutal civil war broke out. The last Emperor, Plutarch VI, was put to death by the communists in 1915, ending the 11 year war. The Communist party initiated a massive modernization and industrialization program, to bring the newly christened Byzantine Socialist Republic back to the forefront of world affairs and progress. The new party continues to struggle with collectivization. The imposition of State Atheism has caused major religious tensions, resulting in armed uprisings in the northern provinces, and Imperial loyalist holdouts continue to launch guerilla attacks on small villages.

I was just wondering cause I would've assumed that Egypt and Arabia would be colonies instead, but alright then

IIRC Byzantium maintain control of Egypt as an integral territory for some time IRL while split from it by the Sassanids.

If an ancient empire can keep Egypt and Turkey together, then a modern state can.
I was thinking of making Egypt a colony, I'm still considering it.

Read your own link. The Ottomans did more than the British (The Queen even tried to stop them) and Native Americans ironically helped the starving Europeans :P
