2060: The Future World. (OOC/PMT/OPEN)

Welcome to the Future...

The future is one in which Imperialism has returned in a big way, after the world fell apart in the 2030s after the gulf oil fields peaked and the global oil supply started running low. The first major casualties in the resource wars were the developing nations in Africa, who could not assure deliveries of food and medical supplies to a land that was wracked by an explosion of Ebola in the 2020s, and these nations collapsed along tribal lines, except where warlords controlled the land. The next place to fall to the wars was Asia, where India, Pakistan, and China fought over Kashmir, leading to a MAD situation when all three parties threatened nuclear warfare. A peace settlement was reached in 2035, but all three were exhausted from the war, and Pakistan was the first to fall, torn apart by ethnic divisions, India was able to soldier on for a few more months, but followed Pakistan in the opening years of 2036. The disestablishment of India was more formal, but when the states of India declared independence ethnic fighting ensued. China was able to largely stay intact, but ceded Tibet, as the costs of occupying the land were unsustainable. The states of Central Asia simply fell into squabbling tribes after the governments lost their main source of income from fossil fuels.

As the fuel crisis worsened, more states fell. The UN shrank daily. But a solution was quickly developed, something that was already possible, but inefficient. Nuclear fusion was quickly developed from something simply experimental to something that was widespread. It seemed the energy crisis was over, at least for the states of the first world. But this was not so. As conditions worsened in the Third World, refugees flooded in, hearing rumors of unlimited free energy and wanting a better life. This increased load on the first world nearly tanked some nations, riots were a constant in the First world, especially after the EU officially switched to Fusion power. The answer to the overworked west came twofold. Fusion allowed two options to be pursued, Human Cloning and Fighting Robots. Both of these were deployed by various nations, but in general the national governments emphasized Cloning, while smaller city and state governments used Robots. But even with these new weapons, the failure of governments that happened across the world continued, but in a more dramatic way. Riots broke out in major immigration cities, and both national and local governments deployed their new units. These riots would pass their names to the history books - Houston, Marseilles, Gibraltar, London, Berlin - as the bloodiest quellings of all time. Thousands died when the riot units opened fire, hundreds more died when they were trampled by fleeing rioters. These riots also ignited what would become the end of the states that remained afloat after the initial crisis. The brutal crackdown lead to further riots, initiating a brutal cycle of violence, one that the remaining governments - already overtaxed since the initial crisis - could not handle. A second wave of government failures swept the globe, starting with the disbanding of the EU in 2038, and ending when the UN, which had dwindled since the beginning of the 2030s, officially disbanded. The final total of flags outside the UN building was two: the United States, which had stopped being truly united in 2038, and Canada, which had slowly declined since the Canadian Civil War in 2035, when Quebec violently declared independence.

After the disestablishment of the UN in 2040, the world fell into a period not like the European Dark Ages. Warlords and despots of all stripes fought over vital infrastructure, cloning facilities, factories, mines, anything that could be used to enhance their position. These wars continued for the entire decade of 2050, finally ending when new states and empires formed, policing their borders and re-establishing the rule of law that had been forsaken in the decades prior. The beginning years of 2050 were ones of relative peace, as the new nations and empires began to contact each other peacefully, and the nations of the world recognized a dichotomy- the nations of the world were either large, territorial empires who kept the peace through the used of cloned warriors, and Megacity-states, who protected their massive urban sprawl with strong walls and robotic units. All of these states recognized one thing from the past, that resources were running low, and that the only way to get more of the vital resources that their populations needed was up, out of the bounds of Earth, into the solar system, and hopefully beyond. As the eyes of the world turned upward, the arms followed. While the orbits of Earth had been quiet since the satellites, whose operators were either dead or gone, had de-orbited, their places were taken by new installations, ones that could not only examine and relay information back to Earth, but also help with the growing plans of the leaders on Earth. Early space ships and space planes have been made, and while still very basic and utilitarian, the potential is quickly become apparent to all.

And so we arrive at the current date of 2060 AD, and the world is in an uneasy peace. All states are hard at work developing ways to exploit space, while also balancing the needs of their people and the needs of the state. The world is increasing on edge, especially with 10 billion people all needing to draw from the same limited resource pool, and war between the empires of the world seems likely. The eyes of the world are also turned upwards, as new installations enter orbit by the day, and new missions planned and launched. A new Space Race has begun, and the peacefulness of space seems a welcome respite to the crowded tension on Earth. Only time will tell if this tension will follow man into the stars, or if it will be left on his home planet.

Politics of the Future World

With the world as wrecked as it was by the 2040 fuel crisis, torn up by dispute after dispute, and with the UN, EU, NATO and every other international body disappearing, the line between what was an acceptable government and what was not changed dramatically. Some governments fell overnight, some nations just vanished off the international radar, and some slowly reformed into a new state of being. Bottom line, governments have changed. Equality for all as a priority has faded into the background, as safety, security and the provision of goods became more important. With the crisis escalating a large number of other issues in a domino effect, the governments or individuals capable of protecting their nations naturally rose to power. Those who kept their old values were quickly swept away. A few of these government types would be the following.

Fascism

A very common government form that saw resurgence after the World Collapse were so-called ‘Freedom Parties’, a collection of people what we call fascist or national socialist. These people blamed every possible group but themselves for the outbreak: socialists, immigrants, democracies themselves, the whole bunch. They promised security for the people in exchange for their cooperation with the state, the surrender of some of their freedoms to survive the crisis that rained fire down on earth. Slowly, using the fear for a total collapse as their weapon, these fascists took over many nations from the inside, taking whatever opportunities they had to gain more land, using the war as a way to motive the people and improve the economy. These regimes tend to be more hostile towards outsiders, be it natural-born people or clones. Some of these states have begun using cloning technology to create master races in their own image, trying to repopulate some areas of land.

Fascist Modifiers: (These reflect how a nation is changed by the system of government.)
Repression: Fascists, due to a general belief in militarism and authoritarianism, are better at combating both physical rebellion and rebellion in thought. General morale is lower, however.
Militaristic: Fascists have tougher and more disciplined forces, and the Military-Industrial Complex is the most important part of the state.
Lebensraum: Due to the oppression of minority groups and belief in a "master-race," territory owned by Fascists has to have a majority of the primary culture group settle in the area to start producing anything.
Master-race: Can only have one culture, the Primary culture.

Communism

Another common government form, on the other side of the spectrum, is the People’s Republic, a general name for every state on the far left of the political spectrum. These states formed the same way as their fascist counterparts. Wall Street fat cats, oil tycoons and politicians were blamed for the world problems. In many countries, there was not one without the other, fascists and communists. These groups were openly hostile towards each other, and many riots broke out between the two groups. These riots were partly the reason for the European breakdown in the years following 2040. Whatever the cause, these parties gained massive following amongst the most disadvantaged and the poor, among them many immigrants following the Great Energy Migrations. Some of these parties were elected by some of the last honest elections, much like the fascists, or they gained power via violent revolutions or coups, much like the fascists. These states are marked by their enormous tolerance towards every social background (except the old ‘aristocracy’), although they have a hatred towards people who have other political beliefs than theirs. After all, what is better and more noble than true equality? These estates are mostly safe havens for clones seeking better lives.

Communist Modifiers: (These reflect how a nation is changed by the system of government.)
Equality: Citizens of a communist nation are happier on average than those of other governments, leading to higher morale. Clones have to be accepted.
Army of the People: Communist states usually have the largest armies, made of a mix of humans, clones and robotic elements.
Wealth Redistribution: Communist states suffer from a systemic inefficiency in production, due to the lack of individual ownership.
War wariness: If a communist state is fighting a war for too long, its people will call for peace, and if they are not appeased, the state will begin to falter.

Neo-Feudalism

While these two forms of government sprung up all around the developed world, the parts of the world inhabited by warlords underwent a different change. This change was mostly felt in Africa, although some parts of Southern America and Asia saw these changes taking place as well. After the fall of many central governments in Africa, the rural areas became governed by warlords, local rulers with small personal armies backing them. These weapons were the sole source of power for these renegade groups. With the fall of the UN and NATO, arms deals became unregulated again and it was not uncommon for a T-72 tank and an Abrams to meet each other on the Serengeti. Slowly, but somewhat less slowly than healthy, the African landscape changed. Lords pledged their fealty to other lords, lords were replaced by hostile takeovers, and the peasants were caught in the middle. The official term became ‘Modern Feudalism’, although many other names gave been given to this kind of state.

Neo-Feudal Modifiers: (These reflect how a nation is change by the system of government.)
Serfdom: With the majority of the people bound to a lord, Neo-Feudal societies are able to produce much more in both agriculture and industry.
Legacy of the Warlords: With the majority of the Neo-feudal states formed from Warlords' conflicts, the troops are very experienced and disciplined and fight much better than some of their counter-parts.
Might Makes Right: The ruler of a Neo-Feudal nation is the strongest warlord, and this makes the state very strong and stable, balanced on the edge of a sword.
Arms Trade: Neo-Feudal nations are not know for their scientific pursuits, and require someone else to sell them new designs for weapons and vehicles. Robotic units are unheard of in Neo-Feudal systems, and can't be used.

Theocracy & Technocracy

In countries where idealism and extremism did not take hold, where democracy survived in some way or form, another split happened, this one more brutal in some ways. Nations more inclined to follow central left and central right schools of thought, and nations with peoples naturally hesitant towards political extremism, the schism was more social than political in nature. In these countries, the ‘religion versus science’ debate was fuelled. The crisis of 2040, followed by near nuclear war in Asia and enormous global unrest, made religious groups more wary of some kind of ‘end of the world’ scenario. They cited the bible, quran and many other holy books, which seemed to give predictions for a near catastrophe. The internet was flooded with all kinds of calculations, dates, predictions by obscure doom prophets. There was a general increase of miracles all over the world. Cripples could walk again, the internet said. Blind people could see, the deaf could hear, mysterious ailments were cured, all evidence of the return of Christ. The general mood among the religious was a shift towards the more extreme, medieval parts of their religions. Church attendance increased dramatically, for instance. Issues like homosexuality, euthanasia and abortion resurfaced again, after years of silence on the topics. The religious reclaimed much of the land they had lost in the previous era, sometimes even making it into democratic governments.
This was countered by the scientific and atheist communities, who became more and more vilified In their own country as the source of so many wrongs. Many atheist agnostics became religious followers, and science and evolution lost more ground worldwide. After a while, it was only taught in university biology classes, and classes on naturalistic theory. This too divided nations, only this one put former friends against each other. With every passing day, violence between the groups increased, with no real instigator. In some countries, universities burned first. In others, churches and mosques went up in flames. In others, it all happened at once. Unhappiness and lack of tolerance turned to hatred, hatred turned into violence, violence turned into civil strife. So, two other sets of nations formed. Technocratic meritocracies, and theocracies. It all depended on what side of the conflict happened to win, but the results were clear. Either, such a nation become peaceful, trying to coexist with itself, forming a truly democratic state, although somewhat divided. Others turned full-on religious, weaving the clergy with politics, making religion and salvation matters of the state again. Governments became moralistic watchmen. Nations were atheism and science prevailed mostly chose the path of the technocracy, putting highly educated men in top positions, based on their accomplishments as scholars. They became the new political elite.

Theocracy Modifiers: (These reflect how a nation is change by the system of government.)
State Religion: The majority of the people of a theocracy follow one single religion, boosting stability immensely.
Divine Right: Theocrats rule because God chose them to. The rulers have very few limits.
Science Vs. Religion: In a theocracy, religion takes precedence over science. Scientific developments happen slowly in Theocracy, and they cannot use Cloning technology. To compensate, many religious states have enacted both contraceptive and abortion bans, leading to a high natural-born population.
Deus Vult: When a theocracy fights its troops will have much higher morale, leading them to fight with amazing zeal, even if the odds are against them.

Technocracy Modifiers:
Science Vs. Religion: The a technocracy, science takes precedence over religion. Scientific advancements happen quicker than a non-technocratic state.
Contraceptives & Sex Education: Due to the aforementioned programs being widespread, birthrates in a technocracy are rather low.
Why should we fight?: The people of a Technocracy simply do not want to waste their lives fighting in a war. The only soldiers Technocracies have are robotic.
Meritocracy: The technocrats elect people from the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) professions to lead them, and as such the society is one that is very efficient.

Corpocracy

The last form of government present on earth is the Corporatist state, Libertarian paradises. With countries getting themselves into monetary and economic crises, sometimes the only way of getting out was privatising much of the infrastructure. Although opposed by communists, some countries began selling their own parts to companies. Mail, phones, healthcare services, infrastructure, fire brigades, police, education, the military, and so on. Eventually, there was nothing left of the governments. Just their systems, filled to the brim with corrupt officials, with basically no power anyway. More and more laws were passed to make life easier for big corporations, who flocked to these new havens of the free market. Those corporations became the real leaders of the countries, by granting enormous loads of money to whomever represented them best. Eventually, the whole process became a circle jerk. Companies just decided in advance which CEO to promote for leader, who undoubtedly always won. No one else had the money to campaign against these guys. So, the real corporate states were born, countries led by companies.

Corpocracy Modifiers:
Legacy of Business: Due to their past and present nature as huge businesses, Corpocracies are extremely efficient at extracting value, and this results in Corpocracies having very high production.
Consumerism: The flash and flare of the Corporate environment distracts the important upperstrata, and no one really cares for the lowerstrata, so Corpocracies are more resilient against negative morale and propaganda.
Bureaucracy: Due to the rather complex relationships between constituent companies and contracts to the government that they hold sway over, Military organization is much lower than non-Corpocracies.
Byzantine Politics: The complexity of so many corporations combining slows down the political process, and it is more open to espionage.

Military Technology of the Future

As the world is dominated by two forms of organization, huge rural empires, and highly packed megacity-states, as are the main military technologies of the future. The main types of troops you will see on the battlefields of the world are either cloned warriors, bred to be the best warriors and mass produced from cloning centers, and fighting robots, built in a wide array of forms, both humanoid and otherwise. These robots are all connected wirelessly to a central control computer, which allows them to communicate across the battlefield quickly and effectively. The central computer is controlled by the general commander of those forces, who commands them from behind the lines, in a form similar to a strategy game. Weapons of war have stayed quite the same as in the beginning of the 21st century, barring the more widespread use of railgun technology on land vehicles and at sea, and the beginnings of laser small arms when miniaturization of fusion cells became common.

Cloning Technology & Clones

The process to create clones is a simple replication of a fertilized zygote, similar to when twins are formed, but repeated up to 100 times. After the cells have replicated, they are placed in artificial wombs, where the are fed and cared for until they are "born." The only variations in this process are the exact timing of the births, that cannot be controlled. After birthing, the children are named via a naming machine, and given the last name of "Clone (Batch #),(Birth #)," so a clone born first in the one hundredth batch named Peter would be "Peter Clone 100,1." After naming, they are placed under care of the state, and depending on the state either left to their own devices after learning how to mostly care for themselves, or indoctrinated. Nonetheless, the cloned are cared for their childhood, and released to the career they were born for. This varies from states to state and time to time, but in general in war times, mostly buff men are trained up to shore up the reserves, and in peace a gender diversity skewing towards more females is pursued. There is a process to speed up the aging of clones, but the decision to use this is used only in dire straits, when the clones would not see past their first decade in the first place.

Natural-born humans are rarely seen associating with their cloned brethren, more often that not they live in segregated cities, if not completely different cities. Clones are usually treated better in the Megacity-states, but the stigma of not having a belly button remains. Clones are able to naturally reproduce, but these children of clones also carry the stigma of their parents. Their children, however, are considered natural-born and are freed of their "family curse," though many will wonder why grandma doesn't have a belly button.

Domestic Technology

Domestic technology has developed pretty far since the early 21st century. Electronic tablets were completely miniaturized, becoming little more that bars that projected a holographic image of what the user was searching. Computing has developed into the early quantum stage, with massive room-sized quantum computers beginning to approach the human brain in computing capacity. Otherwise, much is the same as the early 21st century, many enjoy a quite good standard of living, depending on where they live, but most of the world is still not up to par with pre-Fall living standards, and indeed many places actually regressed, with televisions, refrigeration, and air conditioning becoming rare commodities in certain portions of the world.

Space Technology

The main developments of the world are in the realm of the stars above. Spaceships are a regular means of travel to the farthest inhabited cities of mankind, the space bases. These ships are still unarmed, however. Military spaceships are in development by any ruler worth his title, and several advances have been made from the basics of chemical power, but these are still prototypes at best. Human-inhabited space extends out farther than it ever has, with space bases not just in orbit around Earth, but in the Void in between Earth and the Moon, and the most advanced (and expensive) bases are in orbit around the Moon. These lunar stations are actually a majority independent, being so far from any Earthly power.

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded ultra-progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a journalist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a liberal.
To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a considerate idealistic egalitarian with many strong convictions.

"Power is a curious thing...Three great men, a king, a priest, and a rich man. Between them stands a common sellsword. Each great man bids the sellsword kill the other two. Who lives, who dies? Power resides where men believe it resides; it's a trick, a shadow on the wall, and a very small man can cast a very large shadow."

At first I was kind of thinking of all of the Arabian peninsula from Kuwait-Jordan on down, but that might be too big...

So how about the Los Angeles area?

EDIT: Although I might go for some place in South Africa or Israel... Bit indecisive at the moment >_>

Other Cultures:N/A
Primary Import(s):Gold and silver
Primary Export(s):Grain and Machinery

These Descriptions are how you personalize your nation. In a short summary please describe how your nation performs in the following categories:

Libertarianism-Totalitarianism:The Government is very involved with citizen's personal lives, most male citizens are handed over to the state at the age of 6 for military training and physical conditioning. Around 20% are allowed to become scientists or workers, women work on the farms and most in production. A large system of training camps exist, with the main ones in Nauru, Kiribati, French Polynesia and Tuvalu. The Rest of populace are indoctrinated with propaganda about how they must be strong to survive. That said however, the male citizens train for six days a week, and have a day off on Sunday. They also have days off on family's birthdays and holidays such as Christmas and Easter. Outside of the training camps, full civil rights are given to all species, including clones. These make up 10.9% of the populace.

Large ruling class-Small ruling class:Any citizen, no matter class or species can request a referendum on a law. However, they must gather 15,000 signatures before that referendum can take place.

Economic Equality-Economic Inequality: There is a government approved benefits net for all citizens, however they must have paid into the system for at least 5 years and must have a clean criminal record. Many richer citizens can regularly be seen with the poorer at nightclubs, drinking and partying.

State Economy-Laissez faire:Important industries such as 'Defence' and 'Natural resources' are nationalised and controlled by government. They are not to be sold, however many other industries can be bought into or have companies set up within them.

Moralistic-Ruthless:The government takes a liberal stance on civil rights, and many things such as abortion are completely legal. However, hard drugs and the like are banned, and the death penalty is applied for any caught with said drugs. Soft drugs are legalised, steroids are only legal for medical purposes, and gene therapy is slowly growing.

Religious-Nonreligious:The government stresses that religion is to be kept at home, and out of the working life of the people. Several churchs, Pagodas, Mosques and Synagogues are found throughout the country and religious discrimination is banned.

Techophilic-Technophobic:The government and people as a whole, are very willing to try out any new technology and will pay a good price to get their hands on it.

Diplomatic-Militaristic: The Country and its people have been described as 'A strange reincarnation of Sparta, which is loose off its hook' military classes are regularly held, to indoctrinate the men into being powerful warriors.

Rural-Urban:Many of the islands are quite rural, however with excellent technology and a steadily increasing quality of life.

Expansionist-Isolationist:The government is smart, and keeps a strong isolationist stance. They never really respond to invitations for conferences and trade quietly, waiting for the inevitable.

Brief (Paragraph) Description of your nation's history since the 2020s:New Zealand was hit hard by riots and turmoil, as the oil ran dry. In desperation, the government began cracking down on any sign of dissent and this caused several Communist based militias to form. The already crumbling government couldn't take this new threat and quickly dissolved into splinter groups and factions. Several chains of Pacific Islands were also have difficulties, so New Zealand annexed them into an unofficial federation.

The federation was made official in 2053, and living standards and clean energy began to rise...

RP Example:You know me, i was here originally (Either a link to one of you previous RPs,

or a good example of your RPing style.)

That's a bit too big. Whittle it down some, I'd rather not have a solid, intact USA.

It's a US without its Californian tech sector and Texan/shale oil though. It would be a helluva lot weaker.

True, but having the USA staying intact is kind of boring. I was hoping to have a fractured USA/North America.

Brief (Paragraph) Description of your nation's history since the 2020s: (Be sure to pay attention and involve the story mentioned above!):
In the 2040s, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea were near the brink of war, and everyone expected the war to erupt. In desperation, several military leaders and officials from both sides immediately overthrew their respective governments and unified Korea. The newly formed state was called the Greater Korean Republic, and it was soon revealed to not like the democratic south or the oppressive north, but a merge of both. Fascism and Corporations ran rampant. Soon the newly formed state began a massive military buildup, diverting 20% of its economy into the military. The North supplied rich resources and the manpower which numbered 40,000,000 and many were young people due to a population explosion. The North also had decent industry due to Kim Jong Un's industrialization programs in the 2020s. The South supplied the technology, such as cloning and robots, plus the massive shipbuilding and car manufacturing industries that needed the North Korean workers. South Korea had a massive economy yet was declining due to a population decline with only 50,000,000 people, however the north Koreans saved the economy. Together the GKR managed to empower Korea and soon started more aggressive programs like immigrating nearly 10,000,000 people into China to put up future claims in Manchuria. The Koreans themselves deported all non-Koreans from Korea. The GKR soon increased its efforts in its space program, increasing their combined budget to nearly 4%, similar to NASA during the 60s. The GKR managed to build some space installations and plans to expand into the Moon and Mars. The GKR has a large propaganda ministry that spouts about the ideals of conquering Asia and etc. The GKR is a megacity state that is getting overcrowded and plans to become a territorial empire. Its army has lots of automated droids like sentry guns and robots similar to the Star Wars B1 Battle Droid. The GKR however suffers a massive problem of overpopulation.

Alright, fine.

Could I claim just the states on the east coast, Quebec, and some islands north of Quebec then? As for why I would need Quebec, I need it so I can drill for oil there.
