No, just fill out the military template, you don't need to redo your app.

What would be an acceptable military size for an extremely skilled military. (We pride ourselves on our military training/defense and tech, not so much the navy XD)

Actually, I have pulled those numbers directly from the British Armed Forces websites and even after augmenting a few things, like bumping my supercarrier's operational date up a couple of years and adding some subs and a few thousand actives and reserves. And this is the military of the third largest economy. Perhaps Africa has overestimated its military as it relates to their economy?

And I don't mistake outnumbering with outclassing. 8)

EDIT: I revised my Marines section. I copypasted the Army template and forget to change the values. So now, it reflects the actual weapons and equipment of the Royal Cambrian Marines (as based on the rl Royal Marines with stats pulled from their MoD website.)

I suppose I could add some stuff, or facilitate some purchases/commissions, if we don't want to keep our numbers closer to real-world. I'm game for more boats and troops. :D

Could I play as the Iberian Empire? I see that (at the last map update atleast) it was unclaimed. Also, has a preliminary application for them already been posted, or no?

You can be them, but you need an app. It has to be the same map claim and an Imperial Government.

Not picking on you Bolovia, just using you as an example. :)

The Hispanic Republic: Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Chile.
Claims: 900,000 active plus 400,000 reserves, totaling 1,300,000.

Real world populations (Populstat for 2015)
Argentina: 40,523,000
Uruguay: 3,588,000
Paraguay: 7,963,000
Bolivia: 12,116,000
Chile: 17,475,000
Total: 81,665,000
1% military total = 816,000
1.5% military total 1,224,975

So, given real world populations, Bolovia's military seems quite reasonable in size for an RP setting. But:

Real world military numbers and budgets (USD)
Argentina: 73,100 active, 31,240 reserve, $5 billion
Uruguay: 24,000 active, no reserves, $492 million
Paraguay: 10,650 active, 164,000 reserves, $248 million
Bolivia: 55,000 active, no reserves, $147 million
Chile: 60,560 active, no reserves, $7.4 billion
Total: 223,310 active, 195,240 reserves, $13.287 billion

A combined total of just over a quarter of 1% total population numbers. Why is there such an immense difference between the numbers? I'm guessing that militaries with relation to economies is far more complicated than just GDP and 1% of population numbers. While the real world equivalents of the Hispanic Republic nations could theoretically field the numbers Bolovia put forward (again, not a criticism - Bolovia's numbers are quite reasonable in typical RP settings), they don't field those numbers and there must b reasons why.

This setting strikes me as striving for realism and I've used real numbers almost exclusively. So I guess my question is, how close do we want to adhere to real-world equivalents and how much leeway do we want to give for fictional/creative license?

I agree, but there are a few exceptions. Some states that aren't militaristic IRL have become militaristic (Hispanic Empire, for example) or others their history has just changed so much that they warrant larger armies (The Empire of Japan never fell and is still a major military power). I think you can take some creative licence, just don't go overboard. In fact, Winovia should compile a military power list to simplify things, maybe even break it down into areas of war (i.e. Japan would be extremely strong on a naval ranking, but weaker on a land forces ranking).

Copied mostly from the list on my first IC post. Let me know if anything needs changing. I know my Navy is massive, but I took a fairly big hit on my Army and Air Force for a state my size. Also, some of the weapons are made up considering the US does not exist and I couldn't find any indigenous replacements, just assume they're up to Japanese standards.
