If Japan invades you... I could consider an economic sanction against them. The Congo alone (which I own) contains 70% of the world's coltan. Coltan is a major source of tantalum, which is used in the fabrication of electronic components in computers and mobile phones. At the very least, my refusal to sell it to Japan would dramatically raise their prices if not trigger a shortage (none the least because I doubt the other suppliers of coltan would be able to increase production quickly). As technocratic as they sound, it could have crippling effects (at least in the short term)

THIS, of course, would hurt me as well as Japan sounds like they'd be my largest buyer, so I'd want something in return.

Interesting, I never considered that. Although it would definitely suck to lose cheap access to this resource, it would not be crippling. I have Malaysia and Australia, two other major producers, well within my sphere of influence.

I mean, he could technically invade it, but that would of course open him up to intervention and instability... Japan may take such a chance to score some friends in Africa

You didn't read the context, I assume? The African player was going to meta his claims to exclude a couple interior territories then just take them by force, thus circumventing the territory claim limit. That was just to demonstrate that two could play the meta game.

Also, Indian got the wrong idea, as I never even responded to his request for troops. I had no intention of going to Africa.
