Think of it this way.
The Soviets gave waterdowned forms of their tanks to their allies, i'm assuming the same for me with these tanks. They might not come equipped with night vision or reactive armour, so the indigeneous tank attempts to fix that.
Yeah I think that's fair, but the tanks you mentioned are cutting edge of the time. The M1 Abrams is still in service today, and in 1992 it was almost brand new. Wouldn't you maybe have some M60 Pattons? Third gen tanks in 1992 should be reserved for advanced states.

Yes, i'll have a varied mix of Centurions MK 11 tanks and M60 Pattons backing up my main battle tanks.
Of course, i have just sent a message to the American Player to ask for help in designing an indigeneous tank.

Good idea, ask them if they would have sold you those MBTs. If that's the case, there shouldn't be a problem.

Well, even if you write that, it's not really your place to decide that. I could write that I got advanced technology from every other country and am now an amazingly advanced state, but that's taking too many liberties with the purview of other countries.
Just ask the US player if it meshes with their history that you bought their advanced MBT's. Maybe you had to trade something for them...

We're going to have a bit of a issue then, since the Iranian Revolution never happened as the Shah took a complete U-turn in policy due to massed pressure from both the clergy and populace, which left the Shah as Head of State but all actual power in the hands of Khomeini.
This meant that Iran's 'isolation' following its revolution never happened and all of the Shah's modernisation program's continued but under strict observation from the clergy who firstly removed diplomatic immunity from all foreign non-Islamic military personnel within Iran, banned tobacco and alcohol, but left other reforms such as land and military restructurings alone.
The counter-revolution would still happen though; Khomeini would lose a lot of influence following a Iraqi victory and enable the Shah to reassume direct control.

So the Islamic Republic never happened? Because that is an important part of my history.

Yep, the Islamic Republic never happened. The Islamic Constutional Republic did instead.
What year did the war end, 1981/82? Because if in 81 Khomeini would have ceded that area even if Iran was winning simply so he could try and retain control against the Shah's growing support.

I believe in 1981 thanks to the quick attack movements of the Iraqi army. Officially the war ended after the Islamic republics collapse after the Revolutionary guard was forced out of Tehran to try and hold the line against the Iraqi's and rebellions started to pop up in Iran.

That's basically what happened. I just went into more detail.
Although it should be interesting, since Iran has a larger navy and air force than Iraq but has a worse economy.

Well the most fierce resistance was from the air and the Iraqi Navy was scared into hiding in port.

A brief examination of Iranian population spread says roughly 13 million extra in Iraq. If you want a exact number cross reference these;
