However, occupying Japan in the FIRST place makes little sense, haha. The population would not be easily 'brainwashed' that quickly.

Yeah, they didn't lie down (and even then, still resenting) until the late 1860s, but some people still hate us for some reason.

It still makes little sense. You somehow retook all of Japan from the Kurils....

Hmm... Kyushu and Hokkaido instead, then.

Think of how difficult it was for Americans to take Okinawa ALONE in WWII..

Ah yes Kyushu home island of the mighty Satzuma and Otomo clans.

Some Japanese did help us, but they were mostly located in Hokkaido, and that island's sparsely populated.

A major factor that we did keep Japan was that the Imperial Court and Shogunate were still squabbling in Honshu over who got to govern the country, and a war erupted between them in their war against us.

It's extremely unrealistic for an overseas country (especially Japan) to remain that docile to white colonizers.

I suppose Australia could be my territory in the Pacific, if you guys really are intent on making Japan independent.

We are talking about all the Samurai clans in Japan and the Imperial and shogunate forces after all. Also again why is Jeju in Columbia's colors on the map?

It should be at maybe 60% approval rating, if that. Japanese are extremely nationalistic and the brutal force needed to control it is hardly realistic. I would imagine that possibly taking Hokkiado and maybe some other small parts might be possible, but actual control of it? Hardly. Besides that, I don't see you being able to pacify them/culturally-convert them in such a short amount of time.

I'd say New Zealand would be a better choice.

I think this whole concept of "Japanese won't surrender" isn't wholly accurate for the scenario in which Mars paints. His occupation would come when Japan is still relatively fractured, and would probably coalesce to foreign rule given enough time. The initial occupation is what lacks sense, though--the island has little resources except some silver mines.

Because New Zealand is smaller and easier to control? I suppose it wouldn't matter, but it'd be fairer (and more plausible) if you took New Zealand that way we could have an Australian player.

Perhaps I could only control the east of Australia? Or maybe the Australians are a dominion of me, they'd be shown as me on the map and a player could still play them?
