Head of Government: Same as above
Size of Military Branches: 3,556,000 active personnel/14,210,000 reserves

Brief Description of the nation's economy: Slowly recovering from economic consequences of civil war, main economic focus is on agriculture, nascent manufacturing sector, port tariffs on import goods
Brief Description of the nation's government: Absolute monarchy with a Han Chinese emperor whose authority rests on ensuring the Mandate of Heaven is firmly maintained
Brief Description of the nation's people: Overwhelmingly Han Chinese, Ancestor worship combined with Chinese folk religion predominant, mainly Mandarin and Minnan dialects spoken
Brief Description of the nation's history: (going with what Rephesus said) Essentially a Han Chinese Dynasty lost the Mandate of Heaven so the non-Han rebelled and a dynasty prevailed. During this civil war the Han were really winning because they had Manchuria and Hong Kong but then Japan invaded Manchuria closely followed by an invasion from the south out of Siam, the Han's supply Lines were crippled and the non-Han dynasty had been on the brink of falling apart before. Essentially With the Japanese conquest of Beijing and the Siamese capture of Hong Kong and Guangzhou, Han China is a shadow of itself with Shanghai bring the only real city of importance anymore.

Since the end of the civil war, a new dynasty emerged with the Taizhong Emperor as its head, a former general who had led forces first against the opponents in the civil war and later against his own emperor, who he perceived as being too weak and traditionalist in the face of modern change. A well-read educated man, the Taizhong Emperor was bestowed the task by his people and Heaven itself to restore China to its former glory.

I'm inclined to agree actually. Yes china had a big pop but a huge portion would be in Japan, Siam or West China, even Beijing was taken, I assume you population would be reduced to less than 1/3 and without food from the south and Manchuria they'd largely be starving. You also just came out of a very bloody war around a century ago, so that means you'd just be getting your next fertile male generation meaning significantly less people to work farms or be soldiers.

I don't mean to put you down, but you did say you wanted to be the underdog.

Well, the territory my RP country is sitting on contains some of the most fertile agricultural lands in China. So the Chinese population would be disproportionately located in that area.

Ah that's true. Han China is very rich in that aspect, although your urban population would suffer from that, and the huge age gap would also be an issue. Maybe one that would be resolved by Siamese and Filipino immigrants moving into Han China for jobs?

Haha I agree, overcrowding sucks. However, a 'huge age gap' in terms of labor productivity would not be an issue, as child labor laws do not exist in China at this time, and the net population growth rate, as a result of a high fertility rate, and a large population base would contribute plenty of workers into the economy to sustain agricultural production and whatnot. Plus, most people don't live that long, so the elderly end of the population age distribution would actually be quite small, thereby rendering any huge age gap in China almost nonexistent. However, Siamese and Filipino workers are free to work in Han China, they are neighbors after all.

They speak Siamese, I hope you know your culture is flying out the window :p

Anyhow, I wasn't talking about manufacturing jobs a child can do. Children don't make good soldiers or farmers. And the war would result in huge deaths from the adult male population, reducing fertility rates. And elderly dying does reduce
The dependency load but you can be sure the population is near-stagnant for no, after the century of rebuilding I'm sure things will be fixing themselves but if the Siamese and Fillipino men flood Han China and contribute to fertility, marry Han widows. Etc, china would be mostly okay for pop

Who speaks Siamese? The immigrants?

And I must respectfully disagree with the assumption that the population will be near-stagnating as a result of a war occurring a century ago (in fact, I would argue that the population would explode), but I digress.

Why would it explode? The Han lost a war that resulted in the vast majority of their lands and populations including good and resource Hubs being moved into the borders of other nations. Beijing was taken by Japan and China would've had a hued portion of its fighting age men die from the war. Couple that with a large sex gap and you have the need for men to grow the population. Anyway, a century passing would allow for reforms like the government encouraging more kids (oh irony) and farms along with development, but I don't think China could field 3 million men, especially considering all that they lost and the need for farmers.

And yes the immigrants would speak Siamese, their children probably would too.

1.5 million out of 60 million = 2.5%

I'm going to assume that your troops are around the same quality as China's.

I'm just saying; the higher your percentage, the worse the economy gets, and the worse the quality of the troops gets.

Speaking of which, I think I need to check some populations in populstat.

Like Germany.
France's populstat says 38 million and Germany here is 50+
I doubt the legitimacy of that population.

EDIT: Checked the Populstat, Gemany in 1890 has 49 million, but considering they don't have the Baltic Coast and Prussia, it should be lower.

Indeed. I'd suggest that being lowered.
