My point is that Roman is the demonym for someone from Rome; considering that the Roman Empire was an autocratic empire centred on literally one city, with only the inhabitants (or descendants of them) of Rome being actually considered first class citizens. The Italian tribes elsewhere were crushed and oppressed just like the Gauls and the Britons. Rome was hardly glorious; like nearly all ancient civilizations, the majority of it's achievements are due to slavery more than anything.

If you don't have the provinces of Gaul or Hispania, then the Roman Empire hasn't truly been reborn; you need to back-stab your allies in order to witness a true rebirth.

No, the Fascist belief of Mussolini and his reborn Roman Empire is that we must simply control the majority of the Mediterranean. The ideal simply holds us together, we don't actually plan on going out and attempting such a feat.

Not quite. By the late empire, it would have been very hard to distinguish between the more Romanized Italics (Samnites, Etruscans who were the tribal ancestors of the Latins I believe, Umbrians, etc.) as well as those who had merged in Gaul, Hispania, Greece, etc. from the original Romans, who, I should mention, also included those of the Latin League.

"Reviving the Roman Empire" is just something you claim to do if you're big, the same way that if you were relevant and strong, you fought Persia, back before guns.

edit: That said, what Italy's doing seems a bit odd, maybe even silly.
