Perhaps rotating the pro-players? Every so often the selected would be tasked to helping with whatever current plot, subplot or objective. This does not exclude other non-involved pros from continued over all participation and helping, they're just not directly involved in the current event in IC. Their characters would be available for assistance/advice in the academy still. Then we rotate again. We already have the mentors established, the co-ops also, but I think the pros could be a bit more fluid, as not all players would respond the same way or method when assisted.

Hmm.

I don't know if that's necessary. We could establish that as a possibility from the very beginning, so as not to surprise and annoy our Pro Players, but I really think we should wait until we've had some experience before we implement such a program.

Perhaps, just have a few people volunteer as the permanent pro-players at first, and then gradually ease in the temporaries? That way, people know what they're getting and all.

Also, is it just me or does pro-players sound like a tad of an elitist name?

Don't analyze that; the naming isn't important as much as what we end up doing and contributing to current and future players.

Mmm, that's true. It just popped into my mind.

Speaking of names, are we going with the name Portal's End or Multiverse Academy? I believe Swith said that the thing would be called PE during voting to distinguish it from MA, but would be called MA if it won.

"Pro player" comes from an old (non-NS) forum. It's not professional player; it's proactive player. The GM whispered to these clever minions in PMs. They took the guidance and used their characters to set up situations or to establish some elements for the entire group. "ProP" is also sometimes used.

Swith forgets that some terminology isn't universal. :D

So; what still needs to be done before we begin the more serious planning stages?

Establish the proactive players, figure out if we're using the suggested story arch, set a launch date, "as is" app vs adding a point system, figure out what Mentors are going to be hands on and which of us are going to ghost.

Some middle and high schools are doing exams this week and the next according to some of my players in other RP. Easter is 18-20 Apr. Do we launch and then pause over that holiday weekend? (Swith and I will be available on a limited basis due to family visiting during my kid's spring break.) We could push to May however many universities will have 2014 spring finals coming up the first or second week that month.

I plan to be hands on with active characters for PE.

What's the designated communication channel? I'd suggest IRC or Chatzy, to make multilateral communication easier (versus TGs), but, well, IRC.

Or would it be feasible to set up a Google doc and just have us post notes asynchronously?

Google Docs is a good idea; Khan doesn't have an email he can devote to this, though, I don't think.

Experimental app w/out point system.
Your NS Nation's Nickname: Cer

Character Name: Sanctum Grim

Character Gender: M

Character Species: Human from the UK. [are we limiting characters to only human or will we allow other species - I vote for human only]

Character Physical Description (height, weight, age, usual clothing/attire - no spandex supersuits or trench coats required): 5'10", 170lbs, 18 years old. Dresses in old blue jeans, whatever teeshirt doesn't smell too dirty, tanker boots and a leather biker jacket. He pops the metal guards off Bic lighters and lines the jacket's lapel edges with them. He has his share of piercings and tats but keeps his face free of metal.

URL to Character Picture, if any: here

Character Weaknesses/Flaws: Jaded, tempered by poverty, cynical, and (typical teenager) he thinks he's badass. He's not. He's just some kid who hasn't lived long enough to learn otherwise.

Character Power 1: Techomagic

Power Limitation/Weakness: Uh, yeah, he's a beginner. Think "cyber mind" with leanings towards mechanical intuition and technological possession (when the whole thing doesn't backfire in his face and turn on him.) Yes, his own inventions often kick his ass.

Character Power 2: Enhanced craftsmanship/forging

Power Limitation/Weakness: This is more of a talent/skill than a power. He can't do much without tools and materials. He carries various tools with him but certainly can't cart around an entire machine shop. Luckily the school has one. He's limited by lack of experience.

Add this? > Status (Teacher, upperclassman, first year): first year

Character Background/Biography: Grim's rough childhood jaded him at an early age. His father, an industrial mechanic often out of town, had little time to spend with him and his mother, a hard-nosed woman with too many brats around her ankles, was spread too thin to give him much individual attention. Grim is the oldest of the lot and shared the burden from an early age. He's an introvert and quiet yet pays attention to those around him; he doesn't feel the need to be the life of the party and might sit on the sidelines reading a graphic novel. He isn't antisocial. His mature mentality tends to make him apathetic towards peers suffering from silly teenage plights such as being grounded from using the car or sobbing because their boyfriend didn't reply to a text. Grim's formal education was entirely through Catholic Schools (paid for by grandma) which gave him a good knowledge foundation and plenty of guilt trips. He's a bit of a rebel (tempered by those guilt trips) and somewhat anarchist like his screwed up parents. Blue collar punk born from two old school happy hardcores.

Grim discovered his machine affinity at an early age and attempted to master it on his own. In other words, he's able to do basic things but isn't competent enough to pull off anything spectacular. He inherited his father's OCD tendencies as well as a knack for engineering but poverty keeps him for college. He's intelligent and eager to do something with his life. The Academy is his one shot for bettering himself. His only income (which he uses to supplement the family income) is through making junkyard art and selling it. He also crafts items for ren fairs and reenactments.

Link to RP examples: (For those who have played on NS before) Meh

It would work without a point system provided we remind noobs that they're running beginners. None of this "16 year old Stacy is a princess fairy and the mistress of dark matter since the age of 5".

Point systems might be needed for pro players running upperclassment or teachers unless they can temper themselves and fashion something that isn't OP. We won't teach noobs much if pro players are pulling crap out of their ass without any restraint. There needs to be balance.

I won't be making an application for my role as one of the "Five"; If I have to step into IC as that character, it'll be much like when I step in to one of my RP as a god to sort a problem player. Curbstomps with much panache and huzzahs. (There shouldn't be any reason for a Mentor to run "himself" ie "One of the Five".)

@Tilt. Googledocs works. An IRC would be handy. We could use #P2TM on espernet. It's usually a ghost town.

@Nat. Same boat here. I have a gmail account but I don't want my name revealed. I'd have to make a new account and that's a pain in the arse. Too many email accounts.

We should probably make a roll call for those still interested in being proactive players and then pick from there. Or, at least, that wouldl be my suggestion. As for the story arc, I say we should use the one already suggested. It sounds fairly good to me.

I can be hands on. I also think that, if most agree, we should not use the point system. It can indeed be an useful tool as I myself have witnessed quite a bit, but, as I said, not many RPs out there actually make use of it.

Don't have anything to comment on the launch date.

Also, "panaches"?

I'm going to agree with Zark. There really isn't a need for a point system... especially as we're very up front about the need to make young and inexperienced characters.

Allen and Cami also have been active here. Should we IRC a discussion between Mentors/CoOPs as to who we'll have on board?

As a heads up to everyone, I'm going to be out of town and busy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Personal reasons. Before then, I'm just busy.

Keep going with the planning and such, I'll check in when the week ends and I have some time again. I can do a Google Doc as well if needed, remind to send the Mentors and co-OPs one of my myriad email accounts. Or I can make a new one effortlessly.

Nat: Night's always in some bizarre state somewhere between "intoxicated enough to kill a hair metal lead singer" and "annoying Mormon missionary sober".

Swith: It's because you're so awesome. God himself refreshes the screen before he types just to see if Nightkill has written anything while he was off somewhere else.
