So here's how I'm forcing the Yankees to assimilate in Vicky 2.

See, it's very hard to switch cultures in a province that is the core of that culture. But when POPs (population) leave the province that is their cultural core, they assimilate quickly. So if Yankees leave New England, they will rapidly assimilate and become French-Canadian in Montreal.

So here's what I'm doing - I'm making conditions in New England absolute hell, especially for Yankees. I'm making it so Yankees are desperately trying to move out to places like Montreal where they have higher standards of living, and where they will be forced to speak French and assimilate.

While I'm doing this, I'm also attracting immigrants to New England. As they do not have Yankee culture, they will assimilate and become French-Canadian quite quickly.

Agri, you play Vicky 2. How can I improve this strategy or find a different way to assimilate?

As in, I once had a game where the US managed to colonize most of Africa, but treated the natives much more better than the other European powers. The natives started to either assimilate perfectly or move to the US, and in the space of a few decades, places such as Kenya and Congo stopped being colonies and acquired Statehood.

The result was large swathes of Africa being inhabited by Yankees and blacks (LOTS of Yankees).

The same game had Irish South Africa.
