As a game, I dislike Halo. It is not very fun to play for me, but I generally dislike most first person shooters (Mass Effect is a notable exception).

But as I read on TV Tropes, the mythology they've built is quite interesting.

ME isn't a fps, though. It's third-person, which is historically quite a different kettle of fish.
And yeah, the mythos is interesting, but they've never done much with it and 95% of the fanbase could give a shit, sadly.

Given that the Halo franchise is full of tons of novels, comic books, anime side stories and live action webseries, I challenge that assertion.

The fanbase also cares very much for that, given the presence of Halo wiki, Halo Fanon and the bloated size of the Halo fanfiction section on Fanfiction.net.

It's not COD with laser guns.

OK, I take back "never done anything with it" - revise it to "never done anything that really interests me in it".

The 5% are very active and vocal, I'll grant them that.

I get the feeling there's a tiny community of "story people" trapped within Halo that are desperately trying to actually tell an interesting narrative, but it's really clear that it's not the thrust of what's going on there.
