FALLOUT: nUKingdom OOC [OPEN]

War. War never changes.
In 1066, William the Conqueror of Normandy defeated the Anglo-Saxon King Harald at the battle of Hastings. Though many would try, no foreign power would ever successfully conquer the British Isles again.
In the mid-twenty-first century, the members of the European Commonwealth, fatally dependent on oil imports from the Middle East, would March on the Arab nations once again, sparking a conflict that would only end when its spoils - the desert oil fields - finally ran dry eight years later.
As other nations around the world began to gather up their own weapons, the Commonwealth collapsed into a pack of disparate nations tearing at each other for what scraps of resources still remained. Germany rose as a military power for the very last time, first annexing France, then Switzerland, followed by the rest of continental Europe.
Protected as ever by its English Channel, the United Kingdom watched its fellows consume each other. But her greatest natural defense was also to be her own undoing. No longer able to muster the forces necessary to cross the sea, an exhausted German war machine adopted its final solution. On the fourteenth of October, 2066, using the dwindling remains of their nuclear stockpiles, both sides exchanged a massive, catastrophic killing blow upon each other.
On both sides of the Channel, people died in their millions. Some made it into small underground shelters known as Vaults; low tech imitations of those being built across the Americas at the same time. Others found what shelter they could, in basements, in the underground tunnels beneath cities, or some in the mine shafts that once fueled an empire. As the bombs rained down across their former London homes, the new residents of Vault Victoria, including among their number a few members of the royal family, found themselves trapped as rubble blocked the doorway, sealing them inside forever.
Or so everyone believed...

This is a Fallout-based Character RP set in the former United Kingdom; initially in the ruins of London, and afterwards we'll see. Although unrelated in terms of storyline, a shout-out is deserved to Alouite's RP Fallout, City of London, which served as inspiration for this RP after it unfortunately failed to get off the ground itself.
In much the same style as the Fallout games themselves, I'm hoping to be able to take a fairly hands-off approach to driving the story. Once you step out of the Vault you have the option of heading to Megaton and finding your dad or, if you prefer, you can chug a gallon of Nuka Cola then bugger off and thwack mole-rats with a tyre iron for the next six hours (you big weirdo). There will be an overarching plot if the players want to follow it, but I would be just as happy if everyone came up with their own stories and went with those instead or as well as anything I have in mind. For one thing, it saves me having to do so much thinking ;)
The RP is entirely character-based. If someone comes up with an interesting idea for a faction then I might consider working it in to the setting but there aren't going to be any player-controlled factions. You just get your character(s).

It is London, February 2279, almost two centuries since the bombs fell across the world, beginning in Europe. Across the Atlantic, the inhabitants of the Capital Wasteland are still coming to terms with the breaking of the Enclave's grip on Project Purity while in Nevada the New California Republic sits at a stalemate with Caesar's Legion over the Hoover Dam.
Among the ruins of the United Kingdom, a new society has grown up amid the nuclear wasteland. A new kingdom; a nuclear kingdom; the nUKingdom.
Although unaware of each other, the people living in the nUKingdom, amongst the ruins of what once used to be Great Britain, lead a similar existence to that of their American cousins. Though it's enemies did not possess nuclear arsenals on the same scale as China, having expended most of them earlier on in the Resource Wars, the UK had a much smaller landmass to spread them across compared to the United States, and suffered just as badly.
Britain did not engage in genetic engineering to the same extent as the US. There are no deathclaws, cazadores, or super mutants in the nUKingdom. Nonetheless, the British Isles have become home to several unique examples of flora and fauna besides the common brahmin and bighorners. Wastelanders have taken to taming and riding eight-legged horses called sleipnir, and all hide from the giant mutated radgers which prowl the wastes. Unlike in the US, the Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel and NCR have no presence here but that is not to say that no others have taken up the mantle of dominating the land and re-establishing civilisation among its people.

Factions
"Governments? Aye, we've got plenty of those around. Bit of a dearth of people actually in fucking charge though!"
- Scott Kerr, Guard for Cameron Caravans
The following is a non-exhaustive list of several of the main factions active around the London Ruins. Some are vying for control for the city or even the country; others just want to be left alone to grow food for, trade with, or cannibalize each other in peace.

"I never liked the royal titles; you call me duke and I call you lord and we both know what shit we are."
- Mitar Marašević, Security Guard in Vault Victoria
As the prospect of nuclear war loomed, the British government arranged for the construction of a series of complex underground fallout shelters, each designed to hold thousands of citizens. Located just south of Buckingham Palace, Vault Victoria was built to house the British royal family and several others who lived in the vicinity. On the day the bombs fell, everyone gathered in the Vault. The door was sealed. They survived.
It was not until the doors first reopened that the Victorians discovered the extent of their imprisonment. The vault was accessed via the similarly named Underground station, which had totally caved in beneath the force of a direct hit on the palace itself. The task of digging themselves out was hindered by lack of appropriate equipment and, as the years went by and the first generation of vault-born children grew up and took over from their parents, interest in finding their way to the outside world dwindled to nothing. However, the Victorians never forgot their Royal heritage, even as it was diluted and spread among them all over the course of subsequent generations. The responsibility of the Overseer was gradually subsumed by that of the monarch and within a few generations the two were inextricably tied together.
Change came in the form of a plague. In 2264, a malfunctioning water purification system led to an outbrake of cholera which killed over half the inhabitants of vault Victoria before the problem could be solved. The survivors realised they could not live underground forever and once more set themselves to the task of chipping away the debris which cut them off from the surface. It took years, but by February of 2279, they were almost there.
Victorians can be easily identified by the red and black vault jumpsuits they usually wear under any armour as well as being the only group in the nUKingdom to universally carry Pip-Boys - most other vaults in London having long since opened and had such treasures wildly dispersed. Requisitioned from an armoury stocked with the intention of defending the vault's tight spaces, Victorian weapons tend to be small calibre weapons like pistols and SMGs best suited to close range.
"Britain has been wounded but she yet lives on! As with a broken bone, the limb must be set; its movement restricted in order for healing to take its course. These regulations, though they may seem harsh now, are but a necessary temporary measure to ensure the survival and recovery of our great nation in the face of continuing adversity."
- Terrence Philips, British Prime Minister 2067-Present
Vault Winston Churchill was constructed beneath the Houses of Parliament specifically to protect the British government. In the end, most Lords and MPs chose to remain with their families on the day the bombs fell, though several government officials did gather inside the bunker, only to find the door sealed open due to a mechanical fault. Protected from the blast, but not the subsequent radiation from the direct hit suffered by the seat of government, all of those officials were turned into ghouls. With the effective immortality granted by their affliction, these men and women have carried on their efforts at running the country ever since from inside a reconstructed Westminster Palace.
Few prewar Brits would recognize the government which now exists north of the Thames. Slavery has effectively been reintroduced in the form of a national draft, and no election has been held for over two-hundred years even though many quietly wonder if the centuries are starting to take a toll on their leaders' sanity. A conscripted military commanded from the Tower of London struggles to meet the competing demands of domestic policing and manning the fortifications which prevent the Girders crossing into the North. The Westministers claim to govern the entirety of the British Isles, treating the Knights of the Girder as a formidable but illegitimate rebellion. In reality, their territory stops at the northern banks of the Thames (often referred to as 'Ministerside') and their influence to the north dwindles steadily as the distance grows, ending altogether at the Raiderwall. Nonetheless, they do control the old coal mines in Wales and the North, giving the West Ministers a choke hold on energy production in the nUKingdom.
The uniforms of the Westministers' soldiers are based on that of the original British army. Various camouflage patterns are common beneath an assortment of webbing and light or medium body armour. As weapons, Westminister troops tend to employ a vast array of scavenged and manufactured projectile rifles.
Charged for the Charge!
Motto of 1st Battalion, Knights of the Girder
Some time after the bombs fell, various groups of survivors along the south coast of England banded together after occupying the prewar military bases and factories. With the power of Old World technology and weapons behind them they swiftly expanded their influence northwards into West Ministers' territory, only stopping at the edge of the River Thames, turning its banks into the most heavily fortified stretch of land or water in the British Isles. They are the only faction able to manufacture or make significant use of power armour, though their martial might is tempered by a lack of manpower.
Girder society is strictly hierarchical, with every man, woman and child holding at least a reserve position in the armed forces. Advancement is attained through merit in whatever field the individual works in, be it farming, manufacturing, or combat, and the most senior Knights within these three branches form a highly efficient leadership class known as the Triumvirate.
North of the Thames, the Girders that nUKingdom citizens are most used to seeing are the power armoured beasts watching them from across the river in 'Girderside'. The girders utilise an armour design based on that of the prewar British Army. British power armour technology was somewhat behind that of the USA and so the armour seen in London is much larger, heavier and slower than it American counterparts and requires even more specialised training to operate. Girder soldiers tend to prefer high-tech energy weapons and large calibre guns like the brutal shoulder-mounted autocannon.
"All Things for All People, Everywhere."
- Hards' Outfitters advertising slogan
Operating out of a prewar shopping complex west of Buckingham Palace, Hards' Outfitters is the largest trading organization in the nUKingdom. Run by a cabal of unscrupulous merchants, traders visiting their warehouses can buy or sell anything from simple supplies all the way to advanced weaponry unavailable to anyone else besides the Knights of the Girder - providing, of course, that they have the caps. Those who are known to have defaulted on their payments or otherwise fallen out of favour with the Outfitters' senior staff have tended to find themselves on the wrong side of one of the organization's many slave auctions.
Hards' Outfitters boasts it's own security staff which can be found walking the beat in and around their headquarters and other territories. They are clearly distinguishable by their bright yellow combat armour and armed with an arsenal as various as the wares they protect.
"It's not a brand - well, not like I think you mean it; I was never a slave. Mostly everyone who works for Cameron's gets this ink or something like it. It's a much bigger deal above the Raiderwall than it is down here; not as many people as Hards' but we supply a wider area. Out there, being part of the caravan's something to be proud of."
- Scott Kerr, Guard for Cameron Caravans
The European conflict was not as hard on Scotland as the rest of the UK. Devoid of many significant military targets, much of the country escaped relatively unscathed but for the damage caused by fallout drifting north from England and the inevitable collapse of government. Beyond the rebuilt Roman border fortification known as the Raiderwall, Cameron Caravans operate a trading and courier service out of the medieval fortress in the former Scottish capital. Once a month, a supply caravan arrives in London from its base in The Fortress and exchanges its stock of fresh foodstuffs for the prewar technology required back home. The Camerons are not fussy about who they trade with and will strike a deal with any of the other factions, though they are wary of trading with raiders and shy from the Hards' slave trade. In turn, those they trade with are generally willing to overlook this double-dealing due to the importance of the reliable food supplies.
Caravaners tend to travel light and buy their own equipment. As a result, many wear no armour at all over their clothing and weapons range from the simple to the sophisticated depending on the individual's success as a trader or scavenger. The closest thing Cameron's has to a uniform is the habit among its staff to tattoo themselves with the company logo, which also serves as a guarantee to all others in the wasteland that the individual is protected by the company.
Allahu Akbar!
- Takbir
With the collapse of the old social order and rule of law at the end of the European Conflict, other institutions attempted to fill the void. The Caliphate is one such group, located in an area of London's East End known as New Mecca. Their rigid adherence to the Quran and Sharia Law created order from the chaos and made The Caliphate one of the first postwar civilizations to flourish in the nUKingdom. Over the years, their desire for self-determination and independence from the West Ministers has led to often nasty confrontations although at present the Ministers have agreed to an uneasy ceasefire on the basis that the Muslims are more able to defend their limited territory from raiders than the Ministers' stretched resources, freeing the latter up to combat the Girders. Muslims living within the Caliphate are generally mistrustful of "infidels" but not hostile; most may come and go more or less as they please and all are welcome to convert.
During the years between the end of the European conflict and the Great War, the Soviet Union swept across the former Commonwealth, establishing forward military bases to bolster their forces in the event of an inevitable war with America. The Great War left Soviet forces in the emergent nUKingdom cut off from support or command, and they were gradually beaten back by the West Ministers. Faced with annihilation, the Russian forces surrendered and were assimilated into the native population over the course of generations. Today, the Soviet presence is no longer a unified faction but rather exists as a heritage shared by many living in the nUKingdom. Those claiming Russian ancestry tend to form their own tight-knit communities within the borders of the West Ministers, Knights of the Girder and even (rarely) within the Caliphate.
"They're headed by a small council of very brittle and very old men called the Anshei Kenesses HaGadolah, which means 'Men of the Great Assembly'. I've always wondered if it was the men that made the assembly great or vice versa,"
- Jonathon Ben Lazar, Outcast of the B'nai Avraham
The B'nai Avraham, or 'Children of Abraham' in English, is a community of Jewish isolationists situated in Gateshead, Northern England. Distance from London allows the Children to carry on their existence with more or less no interference from the Westminister. The community's beliefs are highly complex but are based around the idea that living a godly lifestyle will bring benefit to the nUKingdom as a whole even as they shut themselves away from it. It has only been in recent years that the community has begun to trade and interact sparingly with the outside world, and even this concession on the part of its rulers has come at the price of several being excommunicated. Today, the B'nai Avraham keep largely to themselves, although their trading caravans can occasionally be seen out in the wasteland.
Ever since the bombs fell, while others sought to rebuild, there have been individuals who sought only to carry on the destruction, whether out of desperation or pure sadism no longer bridled by the constraints of modern society. With the attention of the controlling factions focused on holding either side of the Thames, raiders have once again flourished within London, forming their own strongholds of violence and terror where the ruling factions have neither the resources nor the inclination to root them out.
The worldwide use of nuclear weapons and the resulting fallout had a disastrous effect on the planet's ecosystems. Whole species became extinct in an instant while others mutated beyond recognition. This was as evident in the nUKingdom as anywhere else in the world. As well as brahmin, bighorners and radroaches, numerous unique creatures now roam the desolate landscape.
Unlike in the US, horses did not go extinct in the British Isles. Instead, they changed. The closest thing to a horse seen in the nUKingdom has eight legs instead of four, bald aside from a wiry mane and is called a 'sleipnir'. If tamed, they are extremely valuable thanks to their relative scarcity and inherited ability to carry heavy loads and travel great distances rapidly. The Westministers in particular have been known to utilise sleipnir in lancerifle-equipped cavalry regiments for scouting parties and to rapidly outmaneuvre their opponents on the battlefield.
Before the bombs fell, badgers were an endangered species in Britain. Afterwards, they flourished as giant mutated radgers with the size, power and temperament of an American Yao Guai. Most wastelanders live with a healthy fear of these creatures and agree that, should you ever encounter one, the most practical reaction is to run as fast as possible, or be wearing Girder power armour. Fortunately, they are still mercifully rare.
Radbits are one of the more interesting mutations to emerge amid the fallout. Unable to survive on the dwindling supplies of grass and other flora as many British plants died out, the radiation caused an accelerated mutation in the common rabbit which allowed it to progress meat as well as vegetables. The radbit is now more of a scavenger species about the size of a small dog. Although a few rungs higher on the food chain compared to their forebears, they will still tend to flee from larger predators and human, though they can be vicious when backed into a corner.

Map

With the help of Google Maps, I'm hoping to put together a general idea of the territories held by various factions around London as well as some notable landmarks. Unfortunately, my internet comes through my mobile phone contract and this map uses up a lot of my data allowance so the project's not yet off the ground. In the mean time, I'll try and include hints and reference points in the IC posts so that players can figure out where they are on a modern map.

Application
"So we can do it one of two ways: You can answer the questions and contribute to the Royal Archives willingly, or I show you how persuasive a point-twenty-two in the family jewels can be."
- Anna Jones, Junior Librarian in Vault Victoria
Below is an example application form for, in this case, the Vault Overseer. Copy and complete the blank form in the code box underneath it to apply. The first few parts are pretty self-explanatory. You have a maximum of 40 points to spend on your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility and luck) stats, though no individual stat can be less than 1 or more than 10. The stats are only used as a guideline to try and get a feel for each character's strengths and weaknesses besides what's listed and described in the bio, and won't overly impact the RP itself unless as the OP I'm in a particularly malevolent mood. Equipment should include weapons, supplies, clothing and anything else you think might be relevant.

Players can have more than one character but every character must have their own application form which must be accepted by me individually.
This has come up a few times now, so I just want to make my position on American characters clear for prospective applicants:
I am really reluctant to accept characters from the Across the Atlantic. If I was not, there would be a real risk that the RP would end up teaming with an inordinate number of Capital Wasteland immigrants and I may as well have written Fallout 3.1 instead of nUKingdom. Also, American characters beg the question of how and why people are making such a long and dangerous voyage for absolutely no apparent gain given that the nUKingdom is just as much a mess as North America. I have not banned American characters but I do expect people applying with them to go above and beyond the call when it comes to creating their application, as well as sufficiently addressing these doubts. I also ask myself, "Is there any reason this character has to be an American?" - would the character work just well if we simply changed the nationality to British and altered a few details?
In short, I'm not stopping anyone from applying with an American character and all apps will be given due consideration. I'm just letting you know that the bar for American characters is being set significantly higher and if you do make one then there is probably a 99% chance I will reject it.

Name: Harold Alexander James Windsor
Gender: Male
Age: 47
Appearance: Harry is five feet nine inches, pale-skinned, with thinning grey hair, careworn face and a slight stoop.
Bio: King Harold III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Overseer of Vault Victoria, to give his full title or just "Harry" to his subjects, is the eighth person to have held the hereditary position of Overseer in Vault Elizabeth II. His reign has been seen as benevolent by his supporters and idealistic by those less charitable or who wish to remain in the vault.
In a vault, everyone has to pull their weight - even the Royals. As a prince, Harry took a keen interest in computers and later went on to modify and improve much of Vault Victoria's programming. By the time he ascended the throne in 2258, Harry knew every system intimately. Unfortunately, it was not enough to recognize the impending life support malfunction in time.
Harry's wife, Princess Mary, the royal consort, and their two children both died during the cholera outbreak and it was largely due to Harry's steadfast resolve and determination that excavation was able to restart on the tunnel and a life outside the vault turned from a pipe dream to a genuine possibility. Now heirless, the line of succession dictates that the crown will most likely pass to one of Harry's cousins, nieces or nephews upon his death.
Stats - S: 3 P: 7 E: 6 C: 8 I: 9 A: 4 L: 8
Strengths: Harry is a strong leader, charismatic and determined. He knows his subjects well and even his detractors stop short of actually calling him a bad ruler. He is also just about the closest the vault has to an expert in all things computer.
Weaknesses: Physically frail, Harry was left immensely weakened by the epidemic. Furthermore, while he knows that leaving the vault is the right thing for his people, he is uncertain and fearful with regard to what they will find in the surface.
Equipment: 1x Pip-Boy, 1x 10mm pistol, 1x Vault Jumpsuit, 1x Reading Glasses, 1x Stimpak, 1xPurified Water

Plot Summary

For the benefit of new and returning players, the following gives a summary of the events that have taken place in the RP itself. This is just a summary, however, and wherever possible everyone is encouraged to read the parts of the thread they missed so you can get the full story.

After eight generations and over two-hundred years trapped underground, the citizens of Vault Victoria finally make it to the surface of London and meet a group of wastelanders who are as much strangers to each other as to the vault-dwellers themselves. The tense greeting is cut short as a group of raiders from a nearby tribe arrive and open fire, forcing everyone to fight together in defense of the vault.
After defeating the raiders, the wastelanders are invited into the vault and offered shelter in exchange for their further assistance. Meanwhile, on the surface, a group of guards have their first encounter with mutated wildlife and come across an unidentified corpse amid the rubble, dressed in a strange and advanced-looking armour.

Hmm....I assume we can be any faction we want,or do we have to be from a vault?

Just want to be sure.

Just want to be sure.

You can be anyone, although I'd prefer a solid core of vault-dwellers, at least to start off with. Bear in mind that despite superficial similarities, these factions are not the same as the ones in Alouite's RP, so non-vault dwellers might need some tweaking to fit into the new setting. Also, you need to be aware that I expect the vault dwellers will have to pick sides in the Girders/Ministers conflict at some point. If your character is from either of those factions then you need to be prepared for the possibility that they may have to defect or end up fighting against the other PCs if that decision goes against their faction.

Dukats wrote:Hi Ularn do I need to make an app?

Yes. For one thing, I intend to keep links to everyone's applications in the OP so other players can look up your characters quickly if they want to check stuff like skills and appearance. For another, this application form includes a biography section, which Alouite's did not. I need to make sure your character still fits with the slightly different setting, although for vault-dwellers I don't anticipate you needing to change much from your last application besides the formatting. I decided to keep the royal vault angle but tone down the jingoism a bit, so vault biographies from the previous thread should still work, though you might want to add in a sentence or two on what happened to your character during the plague and whether or not they support King Harry's decision to leave the vault, since it was a contentious issue among the citizens even after the plague made it a necessity.

Name: Anna Jones
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Appearance: 5'2", black hair hair, brown eyes, 1/8th chinese
Bio: Anna knows little of her past, her mother told her that her great-great grandmother was a chinese-refugee dancing her way through med student, and was dating a Prince the nights the bombs fell. Anna has no idea who her father is, as her mother was the 'vault's bicycle", and took any knowledge with her father's identity to the grave when she died from cholera.
Trying to escape her past as the 'whore's daughter,' Anna buries herself in her assigned task as assistant Librarian, her one escape from the hostile vault community.

No, Anna's actually an assistant Scribe/Librarian, who maintains the "Royal Library"/Database.

Officially she'll be sent with the scouting team to document what they find out there, but in reality she'll be sent so the head of the Royal Library's wife will stop nagging him with accusations of cheating.

She screams prostitute to me for some reason.

You sure you don't want a pistol if your heading out with the scouting team?

Your character's SPECIAL uses forty-five points, rather than the permitted forty. Fix that though, and we're golden! Bonus brownie points for being the first to get their application formatting right!

Fixed Ularn.

Zeinbrad: Anna's been tarred with her mother's brush, no denying it. Men assume she's sleeping with everyone but them, women assume she's sleeping with every man, but is too clever to get caught. She's basically an escapist, burying herself in her work to avoid the scorn and abuse of the vault-dwellers.

King Harry's more of a plot device for me to drive the story; Scott's also making a comeback as my main character.
Name: Scott Kerr
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Appearance: Scott is about half an inch under six feet, with close-cut greasy copper colored hair shoved into a side-parting and untidy facial hair straddling the boundary between stubble and a patchy beard. He is slimly built, with angular features, hazel eyes, dark eyebrows and a handful of largely insignificant scars. A tattoo on his left shoulder of two letter 'C's in serif text facing opposite directions and bisected by a thistle denotes his affiliation to Cameron Caravans. He wears numerous layers against the occasionally harsh weather, including a grey woolen trench coat fastened tightly over a red hooded top, scarf, leather gloves, brown cargo trousers and hiking boots which he is especially proud of for having scavenged from an empty warehouse on his way south (and in his size too!). His gear is carried in a small rucksack which doubles as a pillow when sleeping.
Bio: Scott was born and grew up in the Fortress, his whole family being employees of Cameron Caravans. As a result, His early life was somewhat more safe and comfortable than many in the nUKingdom; he received some schooling and rarely went without food except a few times during some particularly harsh winters.
As the son of a pair of caravaners, it was inevitable that Scott would follow his parents' trade. He started out with Cameron's at the age of five as a messenger boy running errands about the castle. Once he got big enough he, like most youths in the Fortress, was put to tending the brahmin herds, milling grain for bread and other similar jobs. He learned to shoot by hunting squirrels, radbits and other small game for the pot. His aim was good enough that as he got older he started being allowed to accompany some of the caravans as a guard on local routes. This eventually took him as far as Glassglo, Billfort and even south to the Raiderwall. On these routes he picked up more hunting and survival skills from the other caravaners and, although he occasionally came across the aftermath of their work, none of Scott's caravans ever ran into a Raider party.
On that count Scott's luck ran out with his first caravan south of the Raiderwall. After making it all the way to London without incident, Scott and his group were attacked by a group of Raiders just streets away from their destination at Hard's Outfitters and the entire company was slaughtered. Scott was fortunate enough to only take a bullet in his arm and then be left for dead when a pack brahmin fell on him, knocking him out cold and covering his gear against the subsequent looting. When he came to and freed himself from under the beast, his companions were dead and the caravan ransacked. Fortunately Scott still had his rifle and the contents of his pack, and retreated into one of the metro stations for shelter while he dressed his wounds and figured out how to survive alone in London until the next caravan came through a whole month away.
Stats - S: 6 P: 9 E: 7 C: 4 I: 8 A: 5 L: 1
Strengths: Despite lacking much formal education as a vault-dweller would understand it, Scott is intelligent, and growing up in the nUKingdom has left him with good survival instincts and he's picked up some basic medical training while on the road and can ride a sleipnir with some element of confidence, if not finesse. He is also a strong hunter; an excellent shot with a rifle and able to track and ambush prey undetected.
Weaknesses: Scott is much better at dealing with his problems at range. In the few brawls he has been in he tended to be ineffective and be given far worse than he gave. The Fortress has almost no working computers; paper is easier and more reliable for keeping records, and so Scott has little idea of how to work them. Nor is he much good at picking locks; the idea of theft is anathema to his trader upbringing and values.
Equipment: 106x Bottle Caps, 1x Marksman Carbine, 67x 5.56mm Ammo, 1x Utility Knife, 1x Straight Razor, 1x Hat, 1x Merc Cruiser Outfit, 1x Rucksack, 1x Sleeping Bag, 1x Flint & Steel, 1x Doctor's Bag, 2x Med-X, 1x Stimpak, 2x Rad-X, 1x RadAway, 1x Weapon Repair Kit, 2x Dirty Water, 1x Nuka Cola, 1x Whiskey, 1x Cram, 1x Crispy Squirrel Bits, 1x Yum Yum Deviled Eggs,

Without trying to be mean, if that's all you can say to describe your character's history, I probably don't want them in the RP.

The reason I ask for bios in apps is twofold. First, it let's me know whether or not the character fits in the RP and prevents clashes over the lore later on. Second, it gives me an idea of what the player is like; if they can write well, have a good imagination and will be interesting and fun to work with. If all you can say about your character is "He's the head of security, and was hand picked by the overseer," then you fail on the second count. If this is a properly thought through character you expect to RP as, you should be able to say much more about them than that.

So they did. It's not a massive problem since the Russians are more like an ethnic minority than a full-blown faction and can be found as citizens of both the Ministers or the Girders (or sometimes, rarely, the Nation of Islam) but I'll need to fix that anyway. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure a position like Security Chief would not be hereditary - too likely to lead to some incompetent moron getting the job at some point. In fact, (and I know I didn't mention this until now) the only reason the Overseer's job is even hereditary is because the first generation of vault-dwellers decided to just merge it with the monarchy shortly after they realised they were trapped inside by rubble and were going to need new overseers once the current one died.

Anyway, the explanation for him getting the second most important job in the vault can't be "because his daddy had it, and his daddy before him, and his dad..." The bit about his predecessor being assassinated is interesting, but if that's what you're going for then I'd like to know more about the reasons for the assassination as well.

Going to introduce a writing incentive here; person who writes the best application for a vault-dweller, gets their character declared second-in-line to the throne. Given Harry is a pretty frail guy starting to get on in years, this could be a pretty big deal!

Cheers Ularn, I renamed her Anna, and fixed the Bio with the new name. New RP universe (also stops the bleeding effect of similar characters in similar RP's.) Just like Tara in the previous RP, Anna will be rather friendly to 'outsiders'.

Zeinbrad, why not maybe have James's father killed after a Vault-Riot over clean water rationing during the cholera outbreak? Ularn has specified the out-break as being a defining moment of the Vault's history, so why not have James rally the guards and protect the Filter Repair Crew, and having to leave his father to die in order to save the vault? Making such a hard choice in favor of the Vault would probably earn him a promotion of some kind.

I like this idea.

Also, just as an aside, I changed the Factions list a bit. Biggest thing is that the Nation of Islam is now called the Caliphate but I also added in a bit more on some of the other factions as well. The whole thing's probably going to get fleshed out more as time goes on anyway and in the mean time just ask about anything that's not clear.
