War. War never changes.
In 1066, William the Conqueror of Normandy defeated the Anglo-Saxon King Harald at the battle of Hastings. Though many would try, no foreign power would ever successfully conquer the British Isles again.
In the mid-twenty-first century, the members of the European Commonwealth, fatally dependent on oil imports from the Middle East, would March on the Arab nations once again, sparking a conflict that would only end when its spoils - the desert oil fields - finally ran dry eight years later.
As other nations around the world began to gather up their own weapons, the Commonwealth collapsed into a pack of disparate nations tearing at each other for what scraps of resources still remained. Germany rose as a military power for the very last time, first annexing France, then Switzerland, followed by the rest of continental Europe.
Protected as ever by its English Channel, the United Kingdom watched its fellows consume each other. But her greatest natural defense was also to be her own undoing. No longer able to muster the forces necessary to cross the sea, an exhausted German war machine adopted its final solution. On the fourteenth of October, 2066, using the dwindling remains of their nuclear stockpiles, both sides exchanged a massive, catastrophic killing blow upon each other.
On both sides of the Channel, people died in their millions. Some made it into small underground shelters known as Vaults; low tech imitations of those being built across the Americas at the same time. Others found what shelter they could, in basements, in the underground tunnels beneath cities, or some in the mine shafts that once fueled an empire. As the bombs rained down across their former London homes, the new residents of Vault Victoria, including among their number a few members of the royal family, found themselves trapped as rubble blocked the doorway, sealing them inside forever.
Or so everyone believed...

In much the same style as the Fallout games themselves, I'm hoping to be able to take a fairly hands-off approach to driving the story. Once you step out of the Vault you have the option of heading to Megaton and finding your dad or, if you prefer, you can chug a gallon of Nuka Cola then bugger off and thwack mole-rats with a tyre iron for the next six hours (you big weirdo). There will be an overarching plot if the players want to follow it, but I would be just as happy if everyone came up with their own stories and went with those instead or as well as anything I have in mind. For one thing, it saves me having to do so much thinking

The RP is entirely character-based. If someone comes up with an interesting idea for a faction then I might consider working it in to the setting but there aren't going to be any player-controlled factions. You just get your character(s).
It is London, February 2279, almost two centuries since the bombs fell across the world, beginning in Europe. Across the Atlantic, the inhabitants of the Capital Wasteland are still coming to terms with the breaking of the Enclave's grip on Project Purity while in Nevada the New California Republic sits at a stalemate with Caesar's Legion over the Hoover Dam.
Among the ruins of the United Kingdom, a new society has grown up amid the nuclear wasteland. A new kingdom; a nuclear kingdom; the nUKingdom.
Although unaware of each other, the people living in the nUKingdom, amongst the ruins of what once used to be Great Britain, lead a similar existence to that of their American cousins. Though it's enemies did not possess nuclear arsenals on the same scale as China, having expended most of them earlier on in the Resource Wars, the UK had a much smaller landmass to spread them across compared to the United States, and suffered just as badly.
Britain did not engage in genetic engineering to the same extent as the US. There are no deathclaws, cazadores, or super mutants in the nUKingdom. Nonetheless, the British Isles have become home to several unique examples of flora and fauna besides the common brahmin and bighorners. Wastelanders have taken to taming and riding eight-legged horses called sleipnir, and all hide from the giant mutated radgers which prowl the wastes. Unlike in the US, the Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel and NCR have no presence here but that is not to say that no others have taken up the mantle of dominating the land and re-establishing civilisation among its people.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of several of the main factions active around the London Ruins. Some are vying for control for the city or even the country; others just want to be left alone to grow food for, trade with, or cannibalize each other in peace."Governments? Aye, we've got plenty of those around. Bit of a dearth of people actually in fucking charge though!"- Scott Kerr, Guard for Cameron Caravans
With the help of Google Maps, I'm hoping to put together a general idea of the territories held by various factions around London as well as some notable landmarks. Unfortunately, my internet comes through my mobile phone contract and this map uses up a lot of my data allowance so the project's not yet off the ground. In the mean time, I'll try and include hints and reference points in the IC posts so that players can figure out where they are on a modern map.
Below is an example application form for, in this case, the Vault Overseer. Copy and complete the blank form in the code box underneath it to apply. The first few parts are pretty self-explanatory. You have a maximum of 40 points to spend on your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility and luck) stats, though no individual stat can be less than 1 or more than 10. The stats are only used as a guideline to try and get a feel for each character's strengths and weaknesses besides what's listed and described in the bio, and won't overly impact the RP itself unless as the OP I'm in a particularly malevolent mood. Equipment should include weapons, supplies, clothing and anything else you think might be relevant."So we can do it one of two ways: You can answer the questions and contribute to the Royal Archives willingly, or I show you how persuasive a point-twenty-two in the family jewels can be."- Anna Jones, Junior Librarian in Vault Victoria
Players can have more than one character but every character must have their own application form which must be accepted by me individually.
Name: Harold Alexander James Windsor
Gender: Male
Age: 47
Appearance: Harry is five feet nine inches, pale-skinned, with thinning grey hair, careworn face and a slight stoop.
Bio: King Harold III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Overseer of Vault Victoria, to give his full title or just "Harry" to his subjects, is the eighth person to have held the hereditary position of Overseer in Vault Elizabeth II. His reign has been seen as benevolent by his supporters and idealistic by those less charitable or who wish to remain in the vault.
In a vault, everyone has to pull their weight - even the Royals. As a prince, Harry took a keen interest in computers and later went on to modify and improve much of Vault Victoria's programming. By the time he ascended the throne in 2258, Harry knew every system intimately. Unfortunately, it was not enough to recognize the impending life support malfunction in time.
Harry's wife, Princess Mary, the royal consort, and their two children both died during the cholera outbreak and it was largely due to Harry's steadfast resolve and determination that excavation was able to restart on the tunnel and a life outside the vault turned from a pipe dream to a genuine possibility. Now heirless, the line of succession dictates that the crown will most likely pass to one of Harry's cousins, nieces or nephews upon his death.
Stats - S: 3 P: 7 E: 6 C: 8 I: 9 A: 4 L: 8
Strengths: Harry is a strong leader, charismatic and determined. He knows his subjects well and even his detractors stop short of actually calling him a bad ruler. He is also just about the closest the vault has to an expert in all things computer.
Weaknesses: Physically frail, Harry was left immensely weakened by the epidemic. Furthermore, while he knows that leaving the vault is the right thing for his people, he is uncertain and fearful with regard to what they will find in the surface.
Equipment: 1x Pip-Boy, 1x 10mm pistol, 1x Vault Jumpsuit, 1x Reading Glasses, 1x Stimpak, 1xPurified Water
