Am I the only one finds the Songhai post questionable?

Woah, yeah. I just scanned it, but 5000 soldiers? Sorry, but that's bullshit. Especially since they are all apparently "gunmen" who are expensive as all hell. I may be rich, seeing as I am the Papacy, but even I only have around 500 gunmen TOTAL.

Also, the plagues of Europe haven't hit the natives yet, at least not to a noticeable degree. The people we've been sending have all been whole and hearty, so as to make sure they survive the journey.

I would like to notify him that we never said they were susceptible to diseases. We had just told them our colony had a diseases going around, and also considering them human we thought they might just get sick.

Well I happen to think that biological warfare this organised is a little out of any ones depths. It requires more advanced knowledge of what causes diseases and how they spread to do. Also its kind of a dishonourable way to fight your enemies.

True, very true. At this time doctors didn't even know to wash their hands so don't consider your people experts over diseases. Actually at this time they believed diseases was a curse from God.

I'm not really sending that many people there, I said I have guns, not that every soldier has guns, well that's what I meant anyway So, let's say I got the guns from the african natives who attacked me, they had guns right? And gathering a thousand poor people doesn't require much money. Nor do the 5000 soldiers really, or do they? Well, they aren't there to stay, just for a while, and after that they will return back to Songhai. And broke? where did all of my money go? And no, there isn't a reason for a revolt, so not happening. Take it eaaasy.

As for the diseases, well I suppose I can't give you a good explanation that will satisfy you, but as the disease brought by europeans were supposedly easily spread, I think Songhai could have heard some rumors or stories or something. It's hard to do research on these kinds of subjects, I think, so I might be wrong about the diseases, so if you have more information on them, please tell me.

Geez, no need to be so dramatic and serious about everything, it's only a game, I've got nothing to loose. I make mistakes, but they can be corrected, just send me a message or something.

And finally, my own opinion about the Tupi Empire: I don't think such a large Empire could have existed in Brazil during the 1500, or more correctly, couldn't be administrated so that it would stay in one piece. That is however, just me using common sense and my experience, I could be wrong, and if someone wants me to, I can do some research on the subject. And the natives/tribes are a difficult subject to debate about, as we so little information about them, but whatever.

They aren't broke, but they did recently bribe a butt ton of tribes to not attack them. Sick people couldn't even survive the journey, much less land and go to war. Any knowledge of the Tupi coastline is nonexistent, as only a very small area of Brazil is known. To their knowledge, it is just a small island. Knowledge of diseases affecting the natives is also nonexistent, as some of you have pointed out, as no major infections have occurred yet. Likewise, unless the Europeans are openly telling how many natives they're killing with their diseases, the knowledge wouldn't even leave the colonies. Biological warfare isn't revolutionary, as the Mongols preformed it some 300 years before this, but the Songhai would not have knowledge of that, as they were a distant small African tribe at the time. 5000 gunmen is a ridiculous amount by any means. Even further, the diseases on the ships would likely kill off all of the horses as well. The first expedition could not have mapped coastal areas, as it was not stated in your posts. Attempts to edit it in will be rendered null and void. The Tupi drove you out, nobody would board a ship full of people bleeding to death, amputees, and people with broken limbs, and then simply continue exploring. Medical attention would be needed immediately, but attempts to stay near the coastline would be replied with further Tupi action and ultimately death for the whole crew.

1) You have guns, but 5000 is excessive. NOBODY has that many. It's unlikely that even the Songhai could fund them, especially after bribing so many tribes and fighting off a revolt. Sending an expedition of over 5,000 is beyond suspension of disbelief, especially with the LIMIT BEING SET TO 300 AT THE MOST WITH SERIOUS FINANCIAL PROBLEMS

2) As for the Tupi, start believing. Though not a unified empire historically, they did often fight back as a unified force. They considered the invaders more of a threat than each other, and thus fought back. As I've said, there's a reason Portugal only got the coastline.

Your largest expedition was sunk, but you did not suffer financially from it. The Songhai will go bankrupt it the post in insisted on keeping, but possibly might not even be considered valid for metagaming reasons.

Note that an expedition of 5000 is nearly 20X larger than what is acceptable from the richest countries in the world.
