Description
TL;DR 1916 Realpolitik Light AWRP, in the aftermath of a Russian revolution that has installed a Provisional Government with socialist leanings. Threat of Civil War looms in the horizon, just as it has already begun in the eastern hemisphere against the Confederate States. Meanwhile the decadent European powers continue to play their many-sided chess game of politics and diplomacy. CURRENTLY ACCEPTING BALKAN NATIONS AND RUSSIAN FACTIONS.
Queen Victoria's Great Exhibition in 1851 brought all the right crowds, even those of the chess player variant. While on break during the very first international chess tournament in London, 21 June, Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky played an offhand match. It was dubbed the Immortal Game, and for good reason; Anderssen sacrificed two rooks, a bishop, and a queen in order to secure a checkmate. In our reality, Kieseritzky moved 20... Na6, but here he elected to move 20...Ba6. While Anderssen still ends up victorious, this one move creates a divergence, the results of which would, as the stepping upon a fragile butterfly would, alter the course of history forever, and thus the fate of the world as we know it.
Now, it is September 1916, and Russia stands in the aftermath of a revolution. Who instigated this revolution, you say, and against whom? More importantly, what was the outcome? All this and more must be answered by you, the player, and none other, for a civil war looms against the horizon, the likes which will change the face of the world from the taiga to the British seas and beyond. Such a burning propensity is felt in all circles, from the Reichstag of Berlin to the Parliament of London to the Cortes of Madrid to the Congress of Washington; the situation recalls an era of Blood and Iron, of ruthless pragmatism and diplomatic tact.
Gone now are the days of dull conflicts, peace, goodwill, and colonial concessions No, the days of plotting, scheming, and Machiavellian enterprises that might be expected in the realm of realpolitk rule supreme, and cunning, stabs-in-the-back (real or assumed), backroom deals, heated negotiations, political outmanoeuvring, and vague wordings shall be the weapon of the will of the state. Breathe now, in royalty, the air of sharp and dramatic turns of international relations and petty maneuvering of diplomacy and slick dealings and concessions rather than the dull trudging along of lightning landgrabs that make no mention of dysentery, malaria, yellow fever, pneumonia, etc, and shape the land as you see fit.
Maestro, choose your instrument, and let the music play.
