Note that this is meant to be a light-hearted and silly RP that plays on the physics and game mechanics of a classic RPG from the 90's; you have been forewarned.
MOM: Come on name! Stop daydreaming! I've had it up to here with you drifting off when you should be doing your chores instead! That was your Final Fantasy for today, alright?
DAD: Listen to your mother name.
MOM: Here is 50 keikec I need you to go to the Apothecary to pick up a medical herb for your father's gout. You can keep the rest as your allowance. Remember to be back before dinner!
Welcome to RPG the RP, the RP about RPGs where you play the role of a hero in a world heavily based off classic 16 and 32 bit RPG tropes! You start as an atypical daydreaming teenager living in Randomvillagville with a dream of something more. You are set loose on the world with 50 keikec and your very first quest - adventure and excitement await! Be a lone hero on a quest to save the world, team up with a group of adventurous spirits for great justice, or just stay at home and play Dragons and Dungeons; the choice is yours!
Instruction Manual
Character
Like any good old fashioned RPG there are classes of course; each class has its own unique set of abilities for you to discover as you level up ranging from the useful to the absurd, as you gain levels in a class you can eventually morph into a prestige class which has even specialer abilities!
Warriors: Use swords, axes, and other melee type weapons in battle, they are at the front line of any battle that involves battling. There are three basic warrior types -
Knight: Knights are brave and bold warriors with the best defense against physical attacks and a strong will. They make great party leaders.
Fighter: Fighters maintain a balance between attack and defense to make them a good all around warrior.
Barbarian: Barbarians are rage machines whom eschew self defense to deal pure damage against their enemies.
Mages: Mages use magic wands to break stuff from a distance and can waggle their hands while shouting alacazam to use magic! There are three basic mage types -
Clerics: Clerics focus their magic abilities on the healing arts and white magic. They can heal and protect others and they also use their skills to confound and confuse enemies.
Wizards: Wizards strike a balance between offense and defense when it comes to magic. They are capable of healing and protecting themselves and others while still blasting all who oppose them with copious amounts of lightning.
Witch/Warlock: Witches and Warlocks blow things up with a snap of their fingers, who needs a defense when you can zap someone with frozen lightning that is also on fire.
Rogues: Are sneaky types who are good at cloak and dagger stuff. They also come in three flavors -
Ranger: Sneaky ranged attackers that like to use bows and arrows and ambush monsters from a distance, they also pick locks and stuff.
Thief: If you don't know what a thief is then get out from under your rock. They can use bows, clubs, or daggers and specialize in tricking and robbing their enemies.
Mugger: Muggers like to beat up monsters and steal their toys, they use daggers and clubs to do their job and are tougher than other rogues.
There will be stats but most of them are like points on Who's Line is it Anyway and they are just BS to make your character feel special.
The Game Master
Hi, I'm your game master! I tell the story of what is going on around your character, describe locations, attack you with monsters, and give you treasures! I will be playing the part of all the NPC's you meet and will not have a character myself.
Q&A
I'm terrible at releasing all the details of an RP and so people ask a lot of questions, this section of the OP is for the answers to all the inevitable questions that will come up and I will post them here.
Q:So, the sprite can be from any game as long as it looks old-school-y? Like, a Pokemon sprite works just as well as a Zelda one?
A: Humanoid sprites are preferred. I should also note that they aren't really necessary.
Q. Where does one go to make sprites?
A. Sprites can be made here: http://www.mmorpgmakerxb.com/p/characte ... -generator and a few other places can be found with a Google Search. I put that link in the app code also because I'm apparently pretty stupid after midnight.
Q: Do you have any laws with regards to the way magic works, or is it just anything goes?
A: Magic will work pretty much the same way it does in a classic RPG, as you level up you'll gain new magic spells to cast and your character will start with some basic ones. There is white magic, black magic, and elemental magic.
Q: Can one combine two classes?
A: I mentioned Prestige Classes earlier which basically combine two classes but starting out I'd prefer people to stick with one. Some prestige classes I've decided are Paladin which can be taken by knights and gives them white magic spells and Sorcerer for all spell casters that essentially allows them to cast any spell from any class.
Q:Can you post the stat system you'll be using?
A: The stat system honestly won't matter one iota so you don't need to worry about it. Some stats will include Beardiness (for Wizards) and Sword-Chuck Proficiency (for Fighters and obligatory references to 8-bit Theatre).
The App
Just copy, paste, and fill out the below -
- Code: Select all
Name: Your character name here
Gender: Boy or Girl
Class: Pick one of the above
Sprite: Pick an old game sprite or make your own!
That's pretty much it. Given the way I want the nature of this RP to be I'm going to skip the step of asking for previous RP samples. Hope to see you in the IC!
