Oh. I meant to reply to this hours ago.

I'm sure there's plenty of alt-history character RPs. They simply aren't marketed as such, if you understand what I mean.

Well, that's because it's easier to make a difference when on the national scale.

I noticed that no one's ever made an RP for Sins of a Polar Empire.

If the changes to history are already established and you take on the role of soldiers in an alternate WWII for example, it doesn't really matter how easy it is to make changes.

Besides, if I want to butcher history, that's what I play EU4 and Victoria 2 for.

When I want to screw around and smack up AIs, I play EU4.
When I want to butcher history; NS.

The anime stuff is just because this is the Internet, and the Internet is weird like that.

Yeah, but it's weird that whatever the RP, there's bound to be an anime teen girl with an impossibly short pink skirt holding a katana, with eyes that would make Bambi feel inadequate. It's kind of jarring when the bio says she's an elite soldier or something.

It's fun, because one of my characters in Elfen High almost fits that definition, though she's a young adult, and a Catholic Scouser.

Amusing; never encountered one of them, nor have I ever played one.

What? A young adult?

No, one of the above described

Okay, so I was being intentionally dense, but only because I thought you were really talking about Catholic Scousers! Totally didn't consider the magical schoolgirl angle

This is NS, after all.

An open question; what do you all think is the most overdone RP scenario?

Post-Apocalypse, maybe? I think it's one of the most common, but not necessarily overdone. Although, I guess I would say that considering I'm putting together a Fallout RP as we speak.

There seems to be a lot of superhero RPs as well, although again I'm not sure I'd say they're overdone or just often badly done. Sort of wish I hadn't let myself fade out of Super Hero High all those months ago; that had been one of the good ones. Hopefully it still is; thread's still active although I've not looked at it for ages.

It's still doing good, Ularn. Slow, but that's okay. But it's still fun as hell :) And we had a pretty major plot moment not terribly long ago.

Post-apocs like zombies are pretty common, yeah. And superheroes, I must agree.
In the nation arena, I feel like it fluctuates. It switches between modern day, ww2, ww1, medieval, ancient and other schizoic stuff. There's usually a trend, I feel, but not atm.

I might submit an application again. Not as Scott - I don't know what you did with him, but I think I've left the character too long to get back into him - but I might dig out one of the other discarded character ideas.

I think we just left it how you went with it, where he left the school because he resigned. Left it at that and went from there. So in other words we didn't really do much with him at all :P

Nah. Nothing inherently wrong with them, unless they clash with the desired feel of the RP. And that's not exclusive to anime girls; in fact, I find photos of famous actors to be much worse offenders.

God I hate the phrase "young adult." It's like saying "yes, you're almost there, but not quite a Real Adulttm. Go get married and spawn some babies or something, kid."

You...probably wouldn't like ES, then. :p
I think we mostly do a good job with that, though.

Holy crap I broke the quotes.

In fact, I dislike using pictures to portray a characters appearance. But then, I've found that if people describe them by words, they tend to be a bit... lackluster.

The best way would be if everyone drew their characters, but then again, I can't draw at all, myself, and I think most people can't either.

I could draw decent characters for myself, but I don't have an image scanner for uploading them.

Look at your keyboard. Look at S. Look at P. Does that look like a typo?

Sins of a Polar Empire is a PC game about the plight between three factions for Antarctica. The PEC(Penguin Emergency Coalition) that is attempting to defend against attackers, the psychic Sealvent who are conducting a crusade against the PEC, and the alien Bearsari who migrated from the north pole to escape… Something.
