The past five years have not been kind to them.
The Ottomans was more or less forced to acknowledge de jure independency of Egypt (it already had de facto independency so that was mainly a loose of prestige) and has seceded the Levant to Egypt. It also (and this happened before I joined the RP so how on earth it came about I do not know) gave Albania independency. Finally it attempted to set up an Armenian buffer state against Russia but that buffer state was instead turned into the setting of a proxy war between the Ottomans and Russia which has now lasted for five years. The ethnic minorities in the Balkans is probably also eager to declare independency.
Of its 1870 population of some thirty million around ten million had probably declared independency or rebelled. Its military is however quite able technologically though its numbers are small. The navy is very large but dated and far from efficient.
I really hope you will take them though.

Why would I want to be them if they're that boned? I've asked around and everyone just wants to wipe the floor with the ottomans so why would that be fun to play as?

Dont be a baby. Theres still a lot you can do. You can hold your ground and reduce the damage you take in case a war strikes out. You could later reform, strengthen yourself and try and take back some of your land.

First of all they are not boned. They have the largest army in the Middle East and the third or fourth largest navy in the world and their army is technologically superior to the Russian forces. Yes the situation is dire and yes victory seems unlikely, but nothing is ever certain.
Secondly there can be greatness in defeat. This is NS, there are few marks of nobility as revered as a RP'er that can RP loosing. As a great man (no not really) once said “Anyone can deal with victory. Only the mighty can bear defeat.” Winning or loosing as long as the RP is exciting what does it really matter. Easy for me to say perhaps and this RP isn't story wise anything special so yes I suppose winning is a success criteria. Still the possibility to RP the collapse of a ancient multinational empire based on the traditions from Rome-Byzantium and the Islamic Caliphates can hardly be considered disinteresting.
Finally if nothing else I have said is confining enough … Could you just RP the Ottomans temporarily until the war is done? Yes you would be a more powerful actor in the RP if you where Prussia or France but not more relevant to it. As far as I can tell the action is for the foreseeable future going to focus on the Eastern Question making the Ottomans the indispensable nation. Then post war you can switch to one of the aforementioned countries if you'd like. I am sure no one would mind if you where permitted to make a reservation for one of them while RP'ing the Ottomans.

Me? Well I'm not sure. In the past ten days or so the only people active in the Amsterdam conference have been me (Belgium), Of the Quendi (Russia), and Kryskov (UK, I think). Jamessonia, the host, has been gone for a while and I also don't know what has happened to the Austria player (if we have one). Since this conference is about Belgium and Holland getting independence from Austria, I am wondering whether we can complete it with only the three of us currently active.
