My options: Austria, Ottomans, France, Italy, Venezuela, China, Japan, Sweden, Egypt, Spain, all open (and possibly UK)

Hmmm... I got questions:

1. What's Austria's situation? Is it just as powerful as it was IRL or weaker?
2. The Ottomans are meant to fall, no? Not much I can do there except story purposes.
3. How is France doing? It looks like it lost it's indo-China colonies same with Senegal.
4. Italy might be interesting, though I'm not sure.
5. Nah to Venezuela.
6. China looks nice, but is that map up to date because it looks like Korean and the Phillippines are the same color and the OP mentions a Japanese-manchuria.
7. Japan possibly.
8. Sweden is boring.
9. Egypt is open????????????? I'd take that in a heart beat!
10. Nah to Spain.

Looks like I'mma go for Egypt. Why did I write all that out?

So what do I need to know about Egypt?
*Huzzah he lives!*

Nah, son. Britain was all like "yo, why my colonies be all uppity an' shit?!" And Lord Durham laid it straight: "they be wantin' legislation with representation, dawg."

So what do I need to know about Egypt?

1. Austria's more powerful than it was in irl, after crushing France and Holland in a war, it got elevated to second in Europe (I would say)
2. The Ottoman Empire is dying, but still needed
3. It lost a war and was pretty much killed in it, but it's recovering now.
4. Italy has a trade bloc
5. Could be fun
6. Philippines and Korea are Spanish.
7. They could kill it c:
8. Yeah...
9. The op plays Egypt, but I think he plans on leaving it.
10. No comment.

You could

2. Say no to Venezuela and invade it.
3. Say no to Venezuela and have them invade you
4. Join SP to stop the war without having to reduce yourself

Glad you asked.

The nominally-independent Khedivate of Egypt pledged its forces to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and by extension the German Coalition (not real name), in the Franco-German War, after seizing the Suez Canal from France in response to an alleged massacre of Egyptian citizens by French agents. Winning the race to Paris, and grabbing many French colonies in the process, they demanded from the Third Republic heavy reparations, mining rights, and several other humiliating clauses.

Also, they seized the bulk of the French Navy, which, although expensive to maintain, is what Egypt needs to secure its long coastline from Western aggression.

Today, the independent Sultanate possesses the Levant, is third in line to the throne of Albania, possesses factories and mining rights in many countries, and is on the cusp of modernisation. While the war with France saved them from their spiraling debt (to the tune of millions of pounds), the current economic depression, and the mounting costs of the colonies, may see their current expansion stunted or worse. Despite this, Egypt possesses a near monopoly of cotton and sugar in Europe, and has a vibrant arms manufacturing sector.

App is good. Protectorates are Ethiopia, Jabal Shammar, Zanzibar, and Majerteen. You are hereby accepted. I bid you good luck and may you catapault Egypt into prosperity and stability.

Suggestion. Urabi Pasha, popular general and shrewd politician, might cause a ruckus as he did in the OTL, and establish a constitutional monarchy. Perhaps he rockets to fame by suppressing the Mahdiist Revolt?

Now with that, I move on to the North German Confederation. I have a draft at the ready, but I await several more European players before I almost kill off the Crown Prince.
