Yes you can, granted you start out with 1-3 people at first. Of course you can progress to forming your own faction.

I originally was going to have the apps be character templates much like DnD but discarded it for a more traditional written Roleplay

Awesome, as for the career choice, I was just wandering if there was a faction not represented or a particular style of character not present that you think would go well for RP purposes if it was added and thus represented
