Ok. Here's my plan by the way:

Step 1. Land on an island and establish a settlement
Step 2. Convince the King of the Maldives that he needs my protection, and convince him to accept status as a protectorate (they had a King )
Step 3. Be sure to accept their religion, and punish any colonist who does not
Step 4. Send more ships to secure the colony
Step 5. Build a settlement on each island
Step 6. Trade with the east and naval bases, with the King of the island willingly becoming a protectorate with his people respected and prospering alongside the colonists
Step 7. ???
Step 8. Profit

I essentially plan to start a new sea route from Asia to the Maldives to Abyssinia to Europe.

Maldives is actually perfect for your colonization actually: Maldives is already Muslim by this time, so no Conversions are needed. Plus, Maldives is a lot more Well Structured and Non-Tribal then all of the Places I got to Colonize

Sri Lanka, on the Other hand, is divided into like 6 different Kingdoms, and if you take one of them, then the other 5 might gang up on you and you might have a native rebellion on your hands (And none of them are Muslim).

Properly milled silk is only from the Ilkhanate. You can buy what the Siamese have bought from my lads, but don't expect wholesale prices instead of retail. I also have plenty of cannon and steel, if you're interested in the conquest of Eastern Africa.

Given the winter monsoon winds, you can do it in about three weeks. The trick is that if you try to get back without waiting for the change of the seasonal vortexes you're facing abysmal headwind and a serious threat of shipwreck/a three month journey.

You wouldn't happen to have silver, would you? The Ilkhanate would love more silver, and copper. Coke would also be quite valuable to our indigenous steel industries, as more is always in demand.
